His narrative is aggressive as hell with removing the lockdown in two weeks, even though cases are increasing rapidly.

He is now back to relating covid-19 to the flu, and the reason why Americans should not be locked down. ...These Fox interviews are just beyond staged.

I would say this is a big gamble for him. But he never seems to get locked into his positions. If he's wrong, he'll just say he always took it seriously and lots of people will believe him

Really though, he doesn't have too much control. The states are the ones locking things down.

I guess he could have the CDC and other officials downgrade their recommendations to put pressure on the states to fall in line

I'm sure a lot of us have but I've spent a good chunk of the past 4 years trying to figure out why a segment of this shithole country is so enamored with this guy. What is it exactly ?

I know for some it's the racism and "speaking his mind" but it's not all of them.

What is it that makes people throw all common sense and critical thinking out the window to defend this dumb piece of shit ?

All of the things you mention above would've been wholly disqualifying for pretty much any other candidate in modern history. i.e. anytime George W started to go that way his approval ratings plummeted. Extreme white supremacist types were sidelined and ignored even by Faux "News" in large part so they didn't have the type of pull they do now in a world where a large part of the "moderate conservative" electorate is still riding w/45*.

It's so fucking nuts.

thoughts on wet markets now after watching these. I think there should be a global ban and deproliferation response asap.

There was another piece too, from 60 min AU, that was pretty informative. I'm glad at least one other okp has taken interest in this aspect of it lol. Let me share again:

https://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=18&topic_id=210457#211071

"Some interesting vids about coronavirus origins/zoonotic jumps:"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPpoJGYlW54 (Vox piece, 9m watch)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7nZ4mw4mXw (60 Min AU piece, 28m watch)

My takeaways:

It's striking that ground zero of BOTH the SARS coronavirus pandemic of the early 2000s and the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic were found to be this particular type of market (tho different suspected animal hosts in each case).

Also some sobering layers to it all, for folks that look for such intersections, with respect to:

-environmentalism (eg. the totally UNNATURAL intermingling in these markets of animals from such different geographies, ecosystems, and trophic levels with not only each other but with humans, dramatically facilitating zoonotic jumps and also the range of diseases that can 'jump' in the first place)

-capitalism (eg. apparently, there is a very small consumer base for the animal products sold in these markets. the entire industry exists to serve a tiny but powerful elite class who 1-are the only ones who can even afford to buy/prepare/eat this stuff; 2-use their influence to lobby against tighter/permanent regulations; 3-keep demand up regardless of regulatory climate and thus facilitate illicit trade of these products by organized crime syndicates bc they'll pay whatever which makes it a lucrative underground business)

After watching these vids, I think prevention may be bigger than what any one country can tackle alone (as it shows in one video, even with these markets now banned for the time being in China there are still some operating in other countries (eg. Thailand) or even continents). I think the global response may have to expand past WHO and there should be multilateral prohibition of this type of market across the board. Like, using policy instruments as binding as the Geneva Conventions. These pandemics are as deadly as any military conflict and have global reach. I think the argument could be made that these markets constitute biological weapons that (in most cases) simply haven't detonated yet, and should be banned entirely. Like, from Earth.

First living organisms before plants, animals and man were bacteria and viruses, and plants carry viruses as well. It simply comes down to immunity to whatever crosses the many different species kingdom.

If you’ve never been exposed to something, you will lack immunity to that something , until your immune system can build up immunity to it. And that is what man has done from the beginning of time, just build up immunity to pathogens, whether it takes days, centuries or from totally being wiped out and evolving again.

However, a lot of these pathogens we are facing are man made and targeted to do certain things. It’s not as simple as Wet markets being the total culprit.

The fact that some people can recover and others can’t, all comes down to each individual immune system on how to deal with it ...peolple will die of course but that is the natural course to complete immunity as life continues.

Vaccines and medicine were not always available to protect man....just the natural immunity build up process which allowed civilization to thrive....and man has been meat eaters since inception, and raw meat eaters before the use of fire.

Well, it is not just the wet markets that is of concern. It is the commercial industrialization of the cow, pig, and poultry factories (...or meat industry in general). Consistently pumping antibiotics into these animals and keeping them in cramp, damp, inhumane conditions rapidly speeds up the pathogenic mutation process resulting in these super pathogens that are resistant and spill over into humans wrecking havoc. These pathogens have been here for hundreds of thousands of years but just only crossed over to humans hundreds of years ago due to the domestication and close quarter captivity of animals. So yeah, you're right, these pathogens are sort of man made; just not in some evil genius lab.

If civilizations built up natural immunity to thrive, then how was it the Europeans decimated the indigenous American population? How come none of the indigenous Americans ever gave any European their diseases? Why was it such a one way street? The theory is that the indigenous populations had very little diseases/plagues to begin with and the diseases that 'were always here' really wasn't the case. The diseases that 'were always here' really just came here hundreds of years ago when the Europeans first settled. Before the European, the indigenous populations had very little exposure to certain animals; for animals that were native to the land they had sort of a different relationship. Indigenous people hadn't really domesticated their animals to the extent the European had.
Domesticating cows and sheep led to measles. Smallpox came from camel pox. Domesticated pigs gave us whooping cough. Domesticated chicken gave us typhoid fever. Domesticated ducks resulted in influenza. Leprosy likely came from water buffalo. The common cold came from horses. When I say 'came from', I mean traced back to.

I don't think man were meat eaters from inception. According to the process of evolution, we evolved from apes (I think) and none of them are meat eaters. I believe they do eat bugs, but not other animals. If we were meant to eat meat, then we wouldn't have to cook it. Our digestive systems and teeth would naturally be designed to kill and eat raw flesh without getting sick. Just because man may have done something for thousands of years doesn't always mean to keep doing it. We get to live longer 'cause we cut out the dumb shit. Hopefully as we continue to find more dumb shit, we cut it out as well.

There are some things that need to be corrected.

1. Apes are omnivores . They eat meat, insects, vegetables, fruit, etc. They eat whatever food source is available. They have eaten animals as well as monkeys. Also, they have canines to be able to rip flesh, further proof they are omnivores. You can tell the diet of a species by the structure of its mouth and and structure of its teeth. Herbivores have no canines to rip meat. The just have teeth to chew or munch plants. Take army ants, they kill and eat anything in its path, because they have powerful mandibles. Humans are the same, we eat whatever food source that is available, but unlike animals we don’t have the ability to generate vitamins, so we have to eat food that provides those nutrients. Which is why a variety diet of protein, fat, carbs, and vitamin and minerals are necessary. However, protein, which is the main nutrient that all animals ( humans, etc)!need, because the body does not store protein and it is the building block of life. Animal (meat) protein is complete in essential amino acids. Plant protein is not. There is no plant that provides your essential amino acids like meat.

2. A lion can generate most of the vitamins that it needs, as well as produce amino acids. However, they don’t produce all the amino acids that they need, or b12 I believe , this is why they need to eat meat, and don’t need to eat plants. So their diet and eating is based on the biological make up of their body. Same for cows and horses , they don’t have the ability to digest or metabolize meat, so they are herbivores. You eat and feed based on what your body can metabolize and digest ( pull nutrients from), and based on your nutritional needs.

3. Indigenous people and tribes were Hunter/ gathers. That has always been their foundation. Hunting meat ( fish, mammals, birds) and gathering nuts, fruits and vegetables. Aztec, Myans, native Americans, Africans, Egyptians, etc all hunted. But as you stated Europeans brought diseases that none of them had experienced. As you can see that had nothing to do with eating meat, since tribes and indigenous people were already hunters , and some even cannibals. It had more to do with sanitation and hygiene and coming from regions where there was and is different bacteria and viruses. But over time they became immune to them... here is an example: Take the North Sentinel tribe that is protected by the Indian (india) government. The tribe has been in existence for 60,000 years, and the rest of the world is blocked from visiting them. Why? They could actually die from contact with us , due to their bodies not being exposed to the viruses, disease and germs that we have been exposed to. Like chicken pox, flu, stds, etc . No different than what the Europeans brought over from their region.... I caught the chicken pox from my young cousins when I was a damn teenager. It was severe, because it’s worse when you contact it at an older age. It took me close to a month to recover. The point is I had never been exposed to it, so I had no immunity.

4. Scientist are already concerned about glaciers melting that have been existing for centuries, because they might release bacteria and viruses that this civilization has never experienced. And if you think about it , as climate change is getting worse, new viruses are popping up all over. Animals, insects, etc travel farther than humans to all parts of the world, so could they be catching pathogens that are newly released and pass it on?

5. I’m a man of science, so I look at things as organisms and atoms and molecules . A living organism has a cell structure, and plants, animals and humans are all living organisms that consume each other ( there are meat eating plants). All organisms must consume some type of organism to have energy and function. Even if you are plant eater, you’re still killing and consuming a living organism. Being sentient and conscious or having feelings are irrelevant when it comes to energy consuming energy. This whole concept of vegan, vegetarian or meat eater is all meaningless. If you can digest and metabolize it. You can consume it for nutrition.

Also I would like to add. That Cooking meat is highly important to killing bacteria. This is what man discovered and how we were able to really evolve. The appendix in the body l, which is an immune system organ, was highly needed when meat was eaten raw to kill bacteria. We don’t use our appendix like we used to because we now cook our food to kill bacteria. However, eating raw meat leaves you susceptible to eating bad or tainted meat. And this is the real issue as well as as poor sanitation. As organisms we all carry good bacteria to kill bad bacteria especially in our guts, but outside the gut it can be dangerous. This is why if your stomach is punctured or you are shot in the stomach where you gut bacteria leaks Into your blood stream, you can go into sepsis. It’s outside of your stomach. This goes for chickens and salmonella, which is friendly chicken bacteria for chickens, but can be fatal to humans. E. coli in cows, friendly to them, but can be deadly to us. This is why it is important to cook meat well done.

The indigenous tribes of the western hemisphere weren't really cannibals. That was propaganda spread by the Spanish. But let's say they were cannibals, it doesn't make a case for eating meat because cannibalizing other humans result in disease. Most animals are hard wired against cannibalism, of course with a few exceptions. So yes they are cannibalistic chimps out there, but when looking at the whole species, plants/insects outweigh the meat consumption. Even dedicated herbivores such as deer or cows will sometimes try meat if they chance upon it. There are records of cows devouring live chicks and munching dead rabbits, of deer eating birds, and of the duiker, a tiny African antelope, hunting frogs.
What we observe eating isn't necessarily what is best. Consuming whatever is bad for you gives you disease and over time kills you. According to WHO, red meat is a probable carcinogen because of things that exist naturally in it, like heme iron. Should an omnivore get cancer from eating meat?
The whole 'meat is needed for protein' is a myth. Let's say you need to get 56 grams of protein per day. If you eat broccoli for a day, you would get 147 grams of protein. Next day if you decide to do lentils, you would get 157 grams of protein. There is protein in corn.
Vitamin B12 is made from bacteria so you don't 'have' to eat meat to get it. A B12 supplement is fine. You only need a little. A B12 supplement benefits may outweigh the risk of a vitamin b12 supplement via meat.
Carnivores, or those that were designed to eat meat, tend to have shorter digestive tracts plus higher acid concentration to break down meat and quickly push it out so it is not just sitting there decaying. Omnivores have digestive acid of a ph around 1 meaning that it can dissolve bone, humans tend to have a ph around 4 or 5. Omnivores trunk to intestinal ratio is 4 to 6 times while humans is 10 to 12; meaning what we eat sits with us a lot longer. Meat that sits in our bodies, decaying, for too long set off a series of inflammatory responses that lead to disease.
I never said the indigenous tribes of the western hemisphere were complete vegetarian. I was saying that their diet wasn't as meat heavy and the animals they ate weren't necessarily living with them (domesticated). They hunted thus limiting contact and cross contamination. Besides being just dirty, the poor hygiene the European had was due to their relationship and handling of animals. As you say, the indigenous tribes had/ate animals too but it was the European getting them sick. What were the indigenous plagues that could get the European sick seeing that the European weren't native to the land? There are those that say Africans might've reached the Americas before the European. If so, the African didn't wipe out the tribes. What was it about the European that was so deadly? Where did their unusual bacteria and viruses come from seeing that the North American climate was very similar to the European?
I do think it is possible that global warming could unleash ancient bacteria and viruses, but that is not what we are seeing with the coronavirus. Both outbreaks have been traced to a particular area in China due to the bringing together of animals from all over the world, the unsanitary and cramped conditions, and the handling of these animals that allow pathogens to jump and mutate.
Plants have viruses too, but it is extremely rare for a human to get sick from it and pass it on.
Yes people have survived plagues and built resistance once half the population died off. But if we can stop outbreaks from happening, we can stop millions of dying unnecessary deaths every so often. Plagues are not natural. I cannot just shrug my shoulders and think 'oh well, at least we'll be better off once it's over because it builds our immunity'. Disease is called disease because it is not natural. What man are doing to these animals before consumption is not natural. And definitely these wet markets got to go.

against wet markets too tho.

Specifically here:

>Vaccines and medicine were not always available to protect
>man....just the natural immunity build up process which
>allowed civilization to thrive..

Your view is pretty anthropocentric if you think about it, because before vaccines and medicines people just died super easily and super young lol. Our immune systems aren't actually that robust in the grand scheme of things. It's just that, historically, humans' exposures were limited to their immediate geography/habitat or wherever they could survive migrating to, like EAS is talking about. Natural immunity is acquired, in part, by the geographies in which we live and the ecosystems present there. The mosquito that carries dengue, for example, isnt present everywhere. The Fruit Bat that's a reservoir for Ebola isn't present everywhere. Somebody could live their entire life on earth and never have to worry about Dengue and Ebola. But if a vendor set up shop in your local farmer's market hawking exotic birds from India that feed on the dengue mosquito, and exotic Congolese Fruit Bats from a region where Ebola outbreaks have occurred, now you might worry right?

Imho this is why wet markets are so extraordinarily dangerous. They represent a *highly unnatural* co-location of species originating from an unprecedented range of phyla, geographies, ecosystems, even trophic levels. This degree of intermingling would NEVER occur naturally, in any geography, based on the natural ecological habitats of the animals in question. And this is before getting into these markets' poor sanitary conditions, the butcher-on-demand culture of cutting the meat up in front of customers (increasing opportunities for exposure), and their presence in multiple countries.

They're essentially deregulated satellite replications of the most unsanitary animal handling practices used in industrialized farming, which EAS is talking about. But instead of a sea of cows or pigs or chickens wallowing in their own filth until slaughter, its a United Nations of the Animal Kingdom and its diseases. The unnatural intermingling + poor sanitary conditions + commercialization makes these markets disease vectors of unconscionable magnitude. It's insane they can continue to operate anywhere in the world after being implicated in multiple large-scale pandemics. They should be viewed as biological arsenals capable of world-war-scale mass casualties, destruction of our social and economic systems, and a risk to humanity. Seriously.

.and man has been meat eaters
>since inception, and raw meat eaters before the use of fire.

Ya I don't think wet markets can even be compared to a hunter-gatherer type risk model. It's just such a different scale and the range of animal exposures far exceeds what a hunter-gatherer could encounter in his habitat. imho

Oh. I agree. No argument there. Wet markets need to go.

I’m just saying they are not the main culprits, and that not meat eating does not eliminate the spread of pathogens. That’s was my argument.

As far as vaccines,Do you know how robust the immune system is? Very.

Vaccines didn’t come into play until the 1900s . And creatures have been in existence for millions of years. That’s pretty Fucking robust. That proves the body’s strong immunity. Creatures have survived all types of pathogens and cellular burdens.

Some think that vaccines actually weaken our immune system, which is why you have a whole movement who are against vaccines.

The bubonic plague killed nearly half the globe back in the 6th century. We survived and still evolved with no vaccines. The world still became immensely populated

With or without vaccines, life will evolve. That is what DNA is designed to do. It learns and evolves.

In response to Reply # 46

Not eating meat does not eliminate the spread of pathogens, that is true. But if we significantly reduce our meat consumption, then there would be less need for the commercial meat industry. These factories over pump their animals with antibiotics, hormones, feed dead cow to cows, dead chicken to chickens, slaughterhouses filled with animal urine and feces, thus are breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses leading to these super pathogens that humans eventually come into contact with. And what about the animal waste that pollute nearby rivers and streams?
With less need of a meat industry, it would reduce market growth and lead to less human to animal contact thus greatly reducing these zoonotic diseases currently wiping us out.
The 1918 flu (Spanish flu), which infected over a quarter of the world's population and killed 50 million people, was caused by a H1N1 virus that historians say likely originated on a Kansas chicken farm.
Covid-19 was passed to humans in a wet market which only existed because humans exploit animals in the first place.
It is not just about the physical consumption, it is the fact that we create environments where contact between human and animals are increased exponentially. Because contact is increased exponentially, risk is increased exponentially.

Last weekend I was taking the baby to the doctor for what I thought was an earache, on the way there, I noticed the 2 year old was feeling extremely hot.

at the doctors I ask if they can also take a look at the 2 year old. They take the temp, it's high as fuck. They then decide to test for flu and strep - both tests were negative. By that point the doctor was in FULL protective dress; face mask, face shield, glasses, gloves, isolation suit.
We were told to just go the fuck home and act like we already got covid.

So, the 2 year old's been chilling, his fever went down, hes eating, but he can't go hard with physical activities like he used to.

For a good second I've been paranoid about a fever.

Yesterday I quickly felt like shit after midday. I felt a flu like fatigue come on with a fever. I went straight to bed and slept the rest of the day.

Today I feel a bit better but I do feel a slight pain when I inhale deeply, but i still feel like I can breathe.

Looking at timelines and other stories, either this is the depth of symptoms for me or I'm up for a fucked up ride in the coming days. I can't tell and there is no way to tell.

I would take my ass down to a testing center but results take 5 days and there aint much they could do for me unless I was deep in the extreme end of things....me bringing my family TO the hospital is also some fuck shit to do since we're all exposed.

WTF, life.

Go get tested! You want to confirm that. ASAP. That’s the differenfe between Asia and America in dealing with this. All get tested..

Please bro. Not trying to scare you. But so many who had symptoms just stayed home until it got worse, and found themselves in the ICU. I don’t understand this american process.

Find a center if you can, get the test and then quarantine yourself until you get the results. That’s the protocol. Wear a mask and gloves to the testing center.

Hope things get better.

We figured kids are the carrier of the virus and we live in an area FULL of old folks so from jump street we locked it down and go only go out for necessary items.

The reason why I'm not pushing for testing is that it takes 5 days to get results last I checked, drive through centers have hours long wait times and for the most part a lot of the centers won't test unless you're really fucked up. Also, theres not much for them to do for me at this point. I will be told, to treat it like a flu which is what I'm doing.

Now, what I DID do is have a good talk with my cardiologist because I was concerned my use of beta blockers would have similar bad interactions in the way ace inhibitors and covid currently work. I'm not at risk, the medicine is fine so.....

I'm keeping on with the quarantine and laying low.

57. "This sounds familiar"
In response to Reply # 53

A couple months ago I had a minor discomfort over my day off that felt mostly familiar but slightly different, felt mostly normal the next day so I went into work and felt pretty normal until right near the end where I got hit with a real sudden wave of fatigue. Went home, woke up feeling heavy all over, sort of like a weird lucid hangover, had to call out of work and then I couldn't really handle anything but lying in silence and darkness. Every once in a while I'd feel fine, drink some water and feel kind of nauseous so I'd just lay back down. Same thing on Day 3; woke up feeling okay and then worse and worse throughout the day, called out of work again.

Day 4 I felt pretty much entirely normal and went back to business as usual. But there were timse there where I was comfortably worried that I had something way worse than some general sickness; COVID never even crossed my mind at the time, but I was the third person to get sick after one co-worker was sick for nearly two weeks, and by the time it had run its course through us nearly every member of the team had taken at least two days off if not a full week. We all displayed sightly different symptoms, different aspects more intense than others.

Fast forward a couple months, most of us are sure we had it and just wasn't aware of what we were dealing with because no restaurant worker is going to the doctor with anything less than near-death feelings.

13 deaths in elmhurst hospital in one day. NYC has ordered Cooler trucks to hold dead bodies. They are already setting up morgue space to hold up to 44 bodies per space

The line they showed in queens trying to get in the hospital is like dudes camping out to get the latest jordans.

This shit is crazy. I lived in New York for 6 years up until 2010.

900 New Yorker patients are in ICU

the number is basically becoming meaningless or abstract.

we had 10 cases on tuesday, as the mayor was speaking it went up to 11. then 14 in the evening. yesterday it went up to 21. up to 11 it was reported that all cases were people that travelled. details have not been provided for the cases after that.

this doesnt include people on base, last i heard was up to 4. doesnt include people across the border or our sister city 40 miles away.

yesterday was the first day of our stay at home order for the county. driving in the morning wasnt a big change, a little less traffic than there had been. traffic mostly went down when the schools closed. driving home was more odd, saw quite a bit of police cars. this morning traffic was almost non-existent.

i really want to stay home for at least a week. im supposed to keep coming into the office until tuesday then get a week of working from home. im guessing we will be around 100 reported cases by then.

..While its true that the NYC hospitals, morgues, MEs are all besieged during this crisis, it is NOT true that bodies must be cremated or buried the same day.

*That's why they've dispatched every possible alternative (including refrigerated trailers), to give people time to make the necessary adjustments. At SOME point, immediate cremation very well may be the only option, but we have not reached that barrier yet. People are working vigorously to avoid that.

Funeral arrangements currently depend on the city/state. In SOME cases, people have been allowed LIMITED access (ie: immediate family only). In NYC and Ohio, families were given the option to have the burial or cremated (with limited viewing/visitation).

I know this because unfortunately, my family has already cancelled 2 funerals in the past 3 weeks.

..comprehension is crucial.

Even the article you provided clearly states:

"..Bodies will continue to be buried/cremated, but funeral services for relatives and other mourners must take place later..."

"..Bodies must be buried or cremated; no long term storage is allowed..."

*They're referring to traditional circumstances (ie: typically, you could request that a body be held for extended period, while making arrangements). Short term storage is exactly why they've requested refrigerated trailers.

"..Families are not going to be able to go through the normal grieving process..."

Nowhere in that article does it explicitly state that people must be buried/cremated on the SAME DAY, like you stated in reply #60.

That is the very definition of a half-truth/misinformation.

this is basically leading people to their deaths.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/26/coronavirus-louisiana-pastor-has-services-1000-defies-state-order/2914259001/

A Louisiana pastor continues to defy the state’s orders prohibiting gatherings of more than 50 people by holding church services, the latest of which he claimed had over 1,000 attendees.

The Rev. Tony Spell, who claims that congregants at Life Tabernacle Church in the city of Central City, about 15 miles northeast of Baton Rouge, have been cured of cancer and HIV, said that coronavirus is “politically motivated.”

Spell claims that around 1,000 churchgoers, who the church has bused in from five different parishes in Louisiana, have attended his church every Sunday despite state recommendations against mass gatherings. Additional services on Tuesday, he added, attract an additional few hundred churchgoers.

"If they close every door in this city, then I will close my doors," Spell told CNN. "But you can't say the retailers are essential but the church is not. That is a persecution of the faith."

Earlier this month, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a ban against gatherings of over 50 people, which he then expanded by issuing a statewide stay-at-home order for nonessential workers and businesses.

He called the state’s case count, 1,795 cases and 65 deaths as of Wednesday, “sobering” and said that the state’s trajectory has not changed since its first cases.

A recorded livestream of the church’s hourlong services on Sunday shows congregants breaking social distancing guidelines sitting and singing close together.

President Donald Trump issued guidelines earlier this month advising against groups of 10 or more people, but has since considered lifting the social distancing limits by Easter.

Unfortunately, that pastor is confused and out of line. Nobody is asking people to forgo their belief/religion. Everyone Is being asked to compromise. That pastor clearly doesn't understand how infectious disease works. Unfortunately, his own personal agenda is clouding better judgement for the very people he intends to lead.

..However, please understand that NYC was always expecting these type of numbers. It doesn't lessen the impact of the deaths (trust me, my fam is currently going through it), but we need to view all of this info with proper perspective from reliable/trustworthy/vetted sources.

They've been predicting these numbers since this crisis reached the U.S.

The numbers are alarming and will continue to rise.

We need less panic and more responsible actions all around. That's why everyone is being asked to follow procedure(s).

Well, people are not following procedures. That’s the problem, which is why nurses and doctors are taking to reporting what hospitals are going through themselves.

And their information and stress level appear to be quite different than what some of these officials are reporting.

These beginning spikes are similar to Spain and Italy, but those are countries. NY is just one state. To see federal saying one thing and state doing and saying another while people are dropping dead after being on ventilators, it’s been time to push the panic button.

Government both state and federal are too chill for my liking, especially when you see china, SK FRANTICALLY kick shit in overdrive to try to get ahead of things.

Panic is the last thing we need. I agree that local and state officials aren't on the same page, but they appear to be working towards that. In the meantime, nothing is preventing citizens from simply doing the right thing.

*NYC is a very unique location, when you consider the overall congestion and daily traffic.

That said, we're all compromised. We're all at risk (to some degree).

If you have the option to stay home, STAY HOME. To the people that are in careers defined as "essential" during this health crisis, we applaud & appreciate you and your efforts. Please continue to use caution.

My country (Netherlands) has about two million fewer inhabitants than NY state and we've been seeing around 70, 80 deaths a day for the past few days.

But we have been taking increasingly strict measures for a couple of weeks now and we have a solid healthcare system. Our peak seems to have arrived, officials are expecting/hoping numbers to remain steady or drop from here on out.

The US are possibly quite fucked. Inconsistent messaging from the government even while the rest of the world is on lockdown, a shitty healthcare system and little social security to soften the economic blow..

Good luck.

Strict measures definitely need to be implemented ... like arrests and being subjected to prison time similar to other countries.

Our mayor ( Chicago) just implemented that shit today. You will be locked up , fined, etc if caught outside in restricted areas or trying gather in big crowds.

According to social tracking, we are a high green in social distancing .

Of course there's the stubborn and the deluded, but I expect a lot of people breaking lockdown in the US are doing it to get to work. I'm not sure whether fining or jailing them is going to do much good.

Yep.

America refuses to release a stimulus package so that everyone stays in, plus people not wanting to give up their livelihoods.

Euro countries have accepted the hit and are covering it , so that people can stay lockdown

this sounds good. hopefully the prices aren't too high.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/26/tech/dyson-ventilators-coronavirus/index.html

London (CNN Business)Dyson has received an order from the UK government for 10,000 ventilators to support efforts by the country's National Health Service to treat coronavirus patients.

James Dyson, the company's billionaire founder, confirmed the order in a letter to employees shared with CNN on Wednesday.
"A ventilator supports a patient who is no longer able to maintain their own airways, but sadly there is currently a significant shortage, both in the UK and other countries around the world," Dyson wrote.

Dyson said the company had designed and built an entirely new ventilator, called the "CoVent," since he received a call 10 days ago from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

"This new device can be manufactured quickly, efficiently and at volume," Dyson added, saying that the new ventilator has been designed to "address the specific needs" of coronavirus patients.

A spokesperson for the company, which is best known for its vacuum cleaners and hand dryers, said the ventilators would be ready by early April. Dyson, who has wealth worth $10 billion according to Bloomberg, wrote in his letter that he would also donate 5,000 units to the international effort to tackle the pandemic.

"The core challenge was how to design and deliver a new, sophisticated medical product in volume and in an extremely short space of time," he added. "The race is now on to get it into production."

Healthcare workers in many parts of the world are having trouble enough critical supplies, such as masks, gloves and ventilators, to deal with the influx of patients suffering from the highly contagious virus.

A second UK firm, Gtech, is also working to produce ventilators and has submitted two examples to the government for assessment. The company specializes in cordless vacuum cleaners and garden power
tools.

In the United States, Ford (F) has announced that it's working with 3M and GE Healthcare to produce medical equipment including ventilators and protective gear. GM (GM) and Tesla (TSLA) have also pledged to make ventilators.

In response to Reply # 0

I would think the freedom we have to travel makes this strategy ineffective. It's not like China where they physically locked down Wuhan.

https://www.npr.org/2020/03/26/822049287/read-president-trumps-letter-to-governors-on-new-coronavirus-guidelines

President Trump said in a letter to U.S. governors on Thursday that his administration is working to publish new guidelines for state and local governments to use when making decisions about "maintaining, increasing or relaxing social distancing and other mitigation measures" for the coronavirus epidemic.

Trump said his administration is gathering testing data which will suggest guidelines categorizing counties as "high risk, medium risk or low risk" for the virus. The data will drive "the next phase" of the response, he said.

Trump has indicated that he wants to adjust his 15-day social distancing guidelines so that more parts of the stalled U.S. economy can reopen by April 12. The 15th day of those guidelines is Monday, March 30.

In response to Reply # 81

I’m going to speak on the stimulus side of things. Foreign countries are so far ahead it’s a joke. I’m already for socialism, because as you see capitalism is not about protecting citizens.

Denmark just reached a stimulus deal that other European countries are going to get on board with, and Australia stimulus package is unbelievable.

Denmark’s prime minister said it best: if you do less now, you pay more later. So their focal point is let’s take the 2-4 month hit now, pay all businesses so they can pay their workers instead of furloughing them, and pay income support to all that need it. America’s heavy unemployment and terrible stimulus package is going to cost america even more down the road.

This president instead of wanting to lock everything down he wants to try to get the economy rolling, basically, sacrificing American lives because Wall Street appears to be more important than Main Street.

Socialism or social democracy works like an ant colony, where all redistribute and sacrifice to preserve the colony. Our country is like lions , the lioness (people) brings in the meat , but when it is time for everyone to eat , the lion ( government and businesses) devours the majority and does not share with the lioness ( people), and leaves little to just barely survive.

I got foreign friends who just shake their head in disbelief.

Just like foreign countries warned us about WW2. We shook our heads, and got in at the last minute, luckily the world survived. They warned us about this , and now we are doing the same thing.

The poster up above said it best: america is not willing to give up their livelihoods in order to stop this.

I'm in MA and our (repug) governor went @ Trump hard tonite about the fight for supplies. Obviously Cuomo already did that. And Trump's anti-CA policies are well documented. Like I wouldn't be surprised if in his mind he's looking at this as an opportunity to wipe out communities/parts of the country that hate him. Own-the-libs genocide.

I realize that *sounds* hyperbolic but he's obviously a wannabe authoritarian so would this really surprise anyone ?

This is the civil war all over again. It seems like northern states are being punished, and southern states are doing whatever.

This should be a a federal regulated process, where direction, protocols ,equipment and materials should be led by the government. It’s like each state is its own sovereignty.

In most states, you’re allowed to get gas, shop for groceries, get essential medical treatment, and get takeout.

Restaurants are allowed to provide delivery and takeout, which makes sense. You are able to keep distance.

But yeah the grocery situation , which is necessary to get food, can definitely be a huge
breeding ground.

each store seems different though and there doesn't seem to be a blanket protocol. Sprouts lets one person in each time someone leaves, and i think it's 50 at a time allowed in the store. people in line to get in the store are being better about staying apart, and there are markers on the floor in checkout lines where to stand. Costco has a line zig zagging through the lot but they're very organized, and even though it's better than it was 2 weeks ago (mayhem), it's still a bit claustrophobic in there. Ralphs sometimes theere's a queue to get in, sometimes there isn't but they also have floor markers in the checkout lines.

Parks and beaches in LA are mostly closed now. There are still plenty of people on the street walking and bike riding, probably more than usual by LA standards because we're a car town, but from what i'm seeing most people are doing a good job of staying apart, mutually moving away before you cross paths.

>Does this stuff work if there are so many exceptions to the
>rule?

I assume every little bit is effective and every exception can have the opposite affect but if most people are doing their part it's effective overall especially in highly populated areas. The mayor here is saying he expects us to be NY on the coming weeks, the governor projected an over 50% infection rate, but I think (and hope) those projections are more about what we should be prepared for than what's actually going to happen.

111. "Are stores implementing distancing measures?"
In response to Reply # 109

I have to queue for most stores here (Netherlands), because they'll only let a fixed amount of people inside to provide enough space for in-store distancing.
Cash registers and service counters have clear plastic covers between employees and customers, and shopping baskets and trolleys get disinfected (even if it's half-assed most of the time).

Rules set out by our government allow for kids to play outside (on the assumption that since they barely get sick they're unlikely to infect others), and adults can move freely as long as they keep their distance and don't form groups (anything over two people hanging out together).

Still a lot of people ignoring the 1,5m minimum distance, jogging right past you on the streets, etc. But hopefully enough folks are doing it right to slow the spread a little.

Just trying to paint a picture of what it looks like in other places. We're considered relatively lax with our measures, btw. Remains to be seen just how competent our government really is.

But yeah, still miles better than what you folks have to deal with. I can imagine it's a pretty bleak outlook right now, short and long term.

single file line into the store...it's almost laid out like a tour...you're guided through the store. At certain areas like, meats...they let a select amount go into that area and get their shit. There's no bouncing around the store from section to section.

In response to Reply # 109

I went out yesterday to hike - I chose a COUNTY park that was about 40 minutes out of the city.

Well on my drive there I think MORE people were on the roads than last week.

Drive throughs were filled. The parking lot in front of Vons was packed. Ace hardware too. Lots of people on the road.

Two friends hiked with me - but we stayed at least 10 feet apart the whole time.

People we passed by on the trail were unconcerned. Whenever we saw THEM we went off trails , turned our backs and waited for them to pass.

Only 2 groups did the same for us - so people aren't taking it very seriously right now.

The 300,000 masks the White House sent Illinois were the wrong ones.
@GovPritzker asked for N95 masks. They sent surgical masks. "While we do not have the final count on this yet, I can say with certainty that what they sent were not the N95 masks that were promised," he said.

This is where we're at in buying PPE.

An Illinois official sped on a highway to get to a meet-up in a McDonald's parking lot, where she handed off a $3.4 MILLION CHECK to buy N95 masks from China with 20 minutes to spare, beating other bidders.

because recovered patients are testing positive again. That shit is crazy, because they become carries all over again.

So now they have to close all the stuff they were starting to reopen. And Chicago numbers are starting to grow immensely. 12 deaths in one day and the first infant to die due to Covid 19 in America happened here.

Also I think china’s Death toll numbers are bull. It was reported that China ordered 5000 erns in the past 2 days. I wouldn’t be surprised if their numbers are deep into the 5 figures. ..1.3 billion people only 3000 something deaths?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ccn.com/3-reasons-a-coronavirus-second-wave-threatens-china-south-korea/

100 nypd officers have contracted Covid-19 and 3 have died. Other states have banned NJ, Connecticut and New York citizens from entering their states.....

Trump gotta go! I don’t think people are understand how slowly, but immensely , this virus is picking people off. Numbers are doubling and tripling every 3 to 4 days .

I’m close to losing it because Chicago, with as much social distancing we are doing ,is on the same trajectory as NY

Man that article is from three days ago.

Since then, this has happened:

“In the past several days, South Korea has stared to see an increased number of coronavirus cases directly as a result of foreign nationals traveling to South Korea testing positive within the country.

Many individuals in Europe and the U.S. have been traveling to South Korea for its efficient coronavirus testing and medical centers.”

S.Korea reports 146 new coronavirus cases, highest in a week

The new inflow of foreign nationals, however, is beginning to overload existing medical centers and staff, leaving the possibility of a second wave of coronavirus open.

Residents in South Korea said that they fear when they see individuals carrying trolley bags outside, as most of the new cases in late March have come from foreign nationals raveling to South Korea.“

I'm about 5 days in, symptoms have waned. The pain I felt in my chest has gone.

What has stuck around is waking up with a earth splitting headache nearly each day. Other symptoms come and go weirdly, like, I'll have a half of an hour of intermittent coughing and then nothing for the rest of the day or a random moment of cold sweats/clammy skin.

My big concerns at this point are two things....

Looking over timelines, it seems the average time for things to go bad is about the 5th day which is where I am but thats also averages so, I'm really not out of the woods until tuesday after next - I THINK

The other concern is experiencing the bounce back effect some people have experienced where they feel fine, good even and then the virus jumps out from behind the curtains like "Surprise nigga! Now grab yo chest and cough like you hit the chronic"

I’m glad you’re feeling better. But please at one point or another get tested or press it.

That’s the only way to know if you have it/ had it/ and are a carrier. And with ten percent of the people who have recovered from it in China testing positive again, it’s definitely important.

Hopefully, with the new five min test kits being released america can focus on widespread testing everyone.

He was serious for once, and he moved the date up to April 30th to try to get the economy going......which is going to get moved up again of course.

Crazy it took america's tripling Covid-19 numbers for him to finally get it.

This shit is starting to hit red states, and those dumb students at Liberty Universe are starting to get sick.

He is still a shit president of course.

But agreed. Just to see him not speak such nonsense and babble on was a win.

He also spoke of a friend falling into a coma because of the virus, so maybe that and what is happening in queens is putting a fire to his ass.

But all that overzealous talk of everyone being in church on easter, etc, he finally kicked to the curve. He didn't attack any of the governors, and actually praised the front line workers.

the fact that we have to pick between him or biden is such a shit show

Trump accuses New York hospitals of ‘hoarding’ masks and ventilators without evidence

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/03/trump-accuses-new-york-hospitals-of-lying-about-ventilators-and-masks-theyre-using/

President Donald Trump went off on a rant accusing hospitals, doctors and nurses of hoarding equipment and intentionally exaggerating the things they need.

Speaking in the Rose Garden Sunday, Trump asked, “How do you go from 10 to 20 to 300,000 masks? Where are the masks going, are they going out the backdoor?”

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/30/politics/trump-coronavirus-sunday-white-house/index.html

The 37 most mind-boggling lines from Donald Trump's Sunday coronavirus briefing
Chris Cillizza

Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large

(CNN)On Sunday night, President Donald Trump held a Rose Garden press briefing on the latest developments on the country's fight against coronavirus, a near-daily event in the new normal of Washington.
As the number of those sickened and killed by the virus has soared, Trump has increasingly used these press briefings as a chance to vent his frustrations -- at governors, the media and anyone else he can think of.

THE POINT -- NOW ON YOUTUBE!

In each episode of his weekly YouTube show, Chris Cillizza will delve a little deeper into the surreal world of politics. Click to subscribe!
What he did on Sunday night was, somehow, worse -- coarser, more detached from reality -- than what he has done before. I went through the transcript of the briefing and pulled out the lines you need to see. They're below.

1. "Appreciate everybody being here, beautiful day in the Rose Garden, tremendous distance between chairs -- social distancing."

"Tremendous distance between chairs." And away we go!

2. "And as you know, even before this development, we've been doing more tests -- tests than any other country, anywhere in the world."
"The Lost Month: How a Failure to Test Blinded by the U.S. to COVID-19" -- The New York Times, March 28

3. "Let's see how it works. It may; it may not. But we may have some incredible results."
Here Trump is referencing experimental drug treatments for coronavirus. But really, this is him talking about his response to every issue that arises during his presidency. It might work. It might not. But it could be incredible.

4. "We have some interesting things will be announced, I think over the next few weeks, but we'll see what happens."
Again, classic Trump. He hints at possible medical breakthroughs without offering any evidence. I hope he's not just bluffing but, if past is prologue, he probably is.

5. "Even though this is different, something is going on, and you ought to look into it as reporters. Where are the masks going? Are they going out the back door? How do you go from 10,000 to 300,000?"
In which the President of the United States suggests, with zero evidence, that hospitals in New York are somehow stealing masks or purposely asking for too many from the federal government. This is a truly outrageous charge. And deeply disrespectful of the medical professionals on the front lines fighting this virus.

6. "So, somebody should probably look into that, because I just don't see, from a practical standpoint, how that's possible to go from that to that."
"Somebody should probably look into that," says the President about an accusation he made without any proof.

7. "I hope I didn't get any of your clients in trouble, but it could be that they are in trouble. So they have to look at that in New York."
He. Just. Won't. Stop.

8. "Many of the states are stocked up. Some of them don't admit it, but they have -- we have sent just so much -- so many things to them and -- including ventilators."
No big deal, just the President casually accusing states of lying about their medical needs in the midst of a global pandemic. Very normal stuff!

9. "Today I spoke with Wolfgang Puck."
I did not see that coming! (Trump talked to the chef about how to save restaurants amid the economic slowdown caused by the coronavirus.)
10. "Think of it: 151 countries. Somebody said to me today that wasn't in this particular world -- they didn't know that we had that many countries. A hundred and fifty-one countries. That's something."

11. "Something we did very well is, when we stopped the inflow from China at a very early level, that was a good thing to do, a great thing to do. We would have had thousands and thousands of more deaths."
The US now has more coronavirus cases than any nation in the world.

12. "No, I want the people of New York to check -- Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio -- that when a hospital that's getting 10,000 masks goes to 300,000 masks during the same period -- and that's a rapid period -- I would like them to check that. Because I hear stories like that all the time."
So, because he "hear stories like that all the time," Trump felt comfortable suggesting that New York is lying about their protective medical equipment needs? OK.

13. "So I think people should check that because there's something going on, whether -- it's not -- I don't think it's hoarding; I think it's maybe worse than hoarding."
Worse than hoarding? Like, what? Selling them on a black market? Who knows -- because Trump never said.

14. "Just like -- I'll never forget the day when a general came and said, "Sir" -- my first week in office -- 'we have no ammunition.'"
Nope!

15. "It was just an aspiration. We actually will be hitting, potentially -- and this was with our meeting before -- on Easter, we probably -- they -- well, that could be a peak."
Trump is rewriting history here. At the time he said he hoped church pews would be full for Easter Sunday he never suggested that was an aspirational goal. He just said it.

16. "So that was an aspirational number. I didn't say "Easter." I said, "It would be a great thing, if we could do it by Easter."
Here's exactly what Trump said on March 24 in a Fox News town hall in the Rose Garden: "I'd love to have it open by Easter, OK? I would love to have it open by Easter. I will tell you that right now. It's such an important day for other reasons, but I'll make it an important day for this, too. I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter."

17. "You know, I see things -- I see numbers. They don't matter to me."
If you don't think poll numbers matter to Trump, may I refer you to his Twitter feed for the last five years.

18. "I mean, I know insurance companies better than anybody."
There a lot of things Trump knows "better than anybody."

19. "I didn't do that at all. Read the statement. Read the statement. Read what I said. I said we're going to look into 'possibly quarantine.' I didn't say we're 'going to quarantine.'"
The question here was whether Trump regretted threatening a quarantine of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Here's exactly what Trump said:
"I am giving consideration to a QUARANTINE of developing 'hot spots', New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. A decision will be made, one way or another, shortly."

20. "So the concept of quarantine was thrown out to me. Really, would love to do it -- they would love to do it. And I thought it was too much to do, because the people are doing a great job with it."
Oh, so the idea of a quarantine was someone else's idea, eh? And the President didn't want to do it -- despite tweeting out the possibility to his 70+ million followers? Riiiiiiight.

21. "I didn't say that."
This is how Trump responded to a question about him telling Sean Hannity that some governors were requesting ventilators they didn't actually need. Here's him saying it: "And you know, they'd say, like Gov. (Andrew) Cuomo and others that say we want, you know, 30,000 of them, 30,000. All right. Think of this. You know, you go to hospitals, they'll have one in a hospital. And now, all of a sudden everybody's asking for these vast numbers." So, yeah.

22. "Why don't you act in a little more positive? It's always trying to 'get you.'"
Two things here. One, it's not the media's job to be "positive." It's our job to cover the story and hold people in power to account. Two, it's not "gotcha" journalism to ask the President why he said what he said last Friday about governors and ventilators.

23. "You didn't hear me. That's why you used to work for the Times and now you work for somebody else. Look, let me tell you something: Be nice. Don't be threatening."
In which the President of the United States tells an African American female reporter (Yamiche Alcindor) that a) she was removed from The New York Times for asking negative questions (she wasn't fired, she left to join PBS' "Newshour") b) she should be nice (again, not the media's job) and c) her question was "threatening" (it was wasn't --
it was about what Trump said two days ago). Unreal.

24. "When journalists get up and ask questions that are so threatening -- we're all on the same team."
I shouldn't really need to write this but: Holding people in power to account is an act of patriotism.

25. "When I hear facemasks go from 10,000 to 300,000, and they constantly need more, and the biggest man in the business is, like, shocked."
Just a reminder: The reason mask requests are soaring is because we are dealing with a virus for which humans have no immunity and for which there is no vaccine.

26. "And remember, we started with a system that was broken. For many years, it was broken. And I'm not blaming the last administration."
He actually is.

27. "We took over a dead, barren system. We took over a system that was obsolete. It was -- it was good for a tiny, little sample of people."
The key takeaway for Trump in all of this: It's not his fault! You can't blame him!

28. "We could have done it on Easter, but there was a good chance that if it's coming down or if it's still going up -- maybe it's going to be coming down by then."

29. "You know, again, because of what we've done and because of the fact that we've stopped the flow from China so early -- because the question is, from a lot of my friends, 'Why didn't we just wing it? Why didn't we just wing it?'"
Really??? Trump's friends were asking why we didn't just "wing" our response to a global pandemic?

30. "So you're going to have tremendous suicides, but you know what you're going to have more than anything else? Drug addiction. You will see drugs being used like nobody has ever used them before."
In which the President tries to justify his now-walked-back claim that extended periods of social distancing would destroy the economy and cause more deaths than the virus if left to its own devices. Insanity.

31. "I spoke to great people today that have done a great job. And one day, at the top of their business, they're celebrity chefs, they've got the most successful restaurants, and in one day they have nothing."
"They're celebrity chefs."

32. "Anxiety causes, you know, disease, they say. A lot of people -- you're going to have tremendous."
So, uh, well, um, OK.

33. "But I didn't say that. I didn't say that."
The question -- from CNN's Jeremy Diamond -- was why Trump had said "if they don't treat you right, I don't call" about the nation's governors last week. Here's video of Trump saying exactly that.

34. "No, I don't call. No, I don't call the governor of Washington now."
So, Trump is saying he didn't say the thing he did but then admitting that he is actually not calling governors who he doesn't believe are appreciative enough of the help the federal government is providing? Truly mind-boggling stuff.

35. "I don't have to call because I'm probably better off not, because we don't get -- he's a failed presidential candidate. He's a nasty person. I don't like the governor of Washington."
"Modern day presidential"

36. "In 100 years, you could bet your life that he would never be here with CNN and all their cameras, if they're bad, because we help their ratings."
Totally false. In the midst of a global pandemic, it's the media's job to cover -- and contextualize -- what the President and his advisers are saying and doing. Ratings have zero to do with it. Zero.

37. "Unfortunately, the enemy is death. It's death. A lot of people are dying, so it's very unpleasant. It's a very unpleasant thing to go through."
This feels like a good place to end.

During Monday's vote, he said: "When this emergency ends, we will give back all powers, without exception."

Narrator: ...The emergency never ended

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/30/hungarys-viktor-orban-wins-vote-to-rule-by-decree-155476

The Hungarian parliament on Monday voted by a two-thirds majority to allow the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to rule by decree without a set time limit.

While the new legislation remains in place, no elections can be held and Orbán's government will be able to suspend the enforcement of certain laws. Plus, individuals who publicize what are viewed as untrue or distorted facts — and which could interfere with the protection of the public, or could alarm or agitate a large number of people — now face several years in jail.

The lack of proactive leadership from the top and just letting everything be up to the states = a big free for all and weeks of allowing the virus to easily spread.

We’re a stunningly stupid country.

Might be longer than that. China is still having issues as they try to get life going again. They were recently forced to re-close some places.

However I think sports might try to make a move with playing behind closed doors in May...I can’t see those owners sitting still for 60-90 days.

I can’t believe this order is just now being directed to the population of that state.
In Chicago, we have been under a strict, non-essential travel order for close to 2 weeks.
Just the other day, the mayor stated that those who are noncompliant will be penalized. Citizens can be fined, arrested and jailed if they refuse to comply with the order. Barriers have been deployed in certain public park areas, to prevent people from gathering.

I find all governments , federal and state level , are responsible for the conditions and predicament that we are in. Restrictions and directives should have been issued months ago. Our current measures are reactive ones, hoping to stop the bleeding. Even as a a population, we are to blame. Hopefully, this teaches us that we are not invincible, and that America isn’t immune or exempt to falling as a country.

And it'll be over several years.

This won't go back to anywhere near normal until a vaccine is developed that works AND people have it. So figure in the wildest most optimistic case another full year - and a more realistic case 2 years.

But - maybe the Republicans will now understand - THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE A GOVERNMENT.

In response to Reply # 0
Mon Mar-30-20 02:53 PM by allStah

I’ve just being buying meat and all vegetables , and lots of rice and potatoes as base starch foods. And corn tortillas I use as bread for their simple ingredients( corn and water) and fiber content. I go to the authentic Mexican spot to get some tacos every now and then, but damn do I miss some Puerto Rican, Indian, etc food. Most of those places are closed.

I’m not a big sugar person, not even with fruit. However, I will do some shortbread and peanut butter cookies every now and then, due to their low sugar content and simple ingredients. I prefer natural peanut butter ( love peanut butter), but I can eat PB all day, so I have not purchased any just for that reason.

Meat section stays empty, which is scary, and is becoming hard to purchase. Pork section is full as hell. Good to see this generation of black folks not eat pork. 20 years ago you couldn’t get black folks to stop. However ,if i have to eat pork to survive, I will.

Also cats are not touching tuna steaks or liver. I think most don’t know what it is. I have a friend who thought pastrami was pork. I love tuna and liver.... the deli counters stay full too, so Im able to get fresh turkey slices. I think most people are just used to buying packaged lunch meat. So that’s still on the low low.

My father was complaining the other day about not being able to get jasmine rice , saying he can’t eat any other rice. I’m like people are dying out here and you’re worried about your food staples..... makes you understand why in the old old days bringing home a piece of fruit or a loaf bread was a big deal and highly appreciated. Food was not in abundance, so every food item was appreciated.

stocking it up on anything we can freeze, ordering from grocery stores via shipt. We'd already been using shipt for a year before this, but now my wife has become a complete expert at finding delivery times from the various markets around the area. Loading up on meat, frozen produce, and frozen stuff for the kids like pizza and snacks, along with non-perishable foods.

There are times when certain things like ground beef or chicken have been hard to find, but by the end of the week my wife has been able to get it in larger enough quantities to use the next week and freeze for future use.

to prevent people from taking them all from the medical community that really needs them.

On the other hand unless you do have an extensive supply of masks doesn't wearing the same mask every day kind of defeat the purpose?

says to wash the mask everyday with soap and hot water when you get home and continue to wash hands. the mask he is saying to use is not disposable. it is made from an old t-shirt. but you can insert a paper towel between two layers of cotton. when you take the mask off, throw away the paper towel, but wash the t-shirt.

The face shields are inexpensively made, and can be re-used over and over again.

The production team behind those shields are being led by a 50 year old grandmother. They work ten hour shifts, and ship 40,000 masks a day.

In response to Reply # 0

100 percent futile.

For every 1 person who tests positive, there are probably 20 people walking around infected with the virus.

What good is it to limit people to grocery stores, gas stations, etc, if they are walking around positive? Those places are still densely populated.

Deploy military in every community to test each resident. If military is being deployed to test frontline medical workers for the virus, the same protocol should be established for communities.

American numbers are increasing drastically as people continue to walk around infecting each other because they don’t know if the have it.

Asymptomatic, mild symptoms, drastic symptoms , doesn’t matter, all need to be tested...because even if you quarantine you still don’t know if you still have it or not, or have fully recovered. So everyone is going to have be tested twice.

10 percent of the people who recovered from the virus in China tested positive again after being retested.

172. "Not futile - just not OPTIMAL"
In response to Reply # 171

Optimal would be stop ALL movement, close down EVERYTHING, test EVERYONE, forcibly quarantine the non tested or the positive and keep it going for 8 weeks.

Also ban all travel. Then keep the social distancing and stay in orders we have now AND test everyone a lot.

This won't happen in the US.

We probably need more lockdowns AND true leadership at local, county, state AND federal levels.

But the military ain't coming to your house to test you daily. Why?

1)We don't have enuff tests.
2)We don't have enough military.
3)Not everyone lives in a city, they ain't trucking to the middle of nowhere right now.
4)People would get tired of this shit very quickly.

Maybe at the end of this all the "rugged individualism" and "small government" types will be shouted down - but right now we're NOWHERE near that in national resolve.

This really only ends once there's a vaccine that works and for everyone to get it. I'm pretty much counting on being indoors for the better part of 18 months.

We're in for a year or more of extreme unemployment, extreme poverty, extreme isolation, and a 1 in 20 chance of dying if you get it.

It's bad y'all.

I agree this is not going anywhere anytime soon, and a vaccine is much needed.

However, keep in mind ,the human mammal and mammals in general have survived several different vicious pathogens with no vaccines since the beginning of man and beast. Immunity will occur, but it will take years, and there will be several deaths.

When I say set up military, set up military in certain residential areas similar to what is done with voting polls, and have people go to these testing spots, as well as other public testing spots, to get tested.

As far as people getting tired of that process, that's irrelevant. If China and South Korea can force its people to get tested, and expedite the testing process, we can definitely do that here.

If this outbreak does not decrease, and the numbers increase dramatically, military will definitely have to get involved. This is slowly carrying over to military divisions, where now navy sailors are testing positive, and are stuck on ships where it is hard to practice social distancing.

Are wet markets going to be completely band?

Is health care in the US going to change? Insurers are waiving fees for covid-19 treatment. The healthcare model is being stretched thin.

Is american labor going to change? Grocery stores, delivery, warehouse workers, transportation of mass goods. are all being worked to the bone. Grocery stores are essential businesses, shouldn't they be paid like it. Is the wealth gap going to shirk? are there going to be more unions?

Will thoughts on the environment change? Pollution is down, animals are showing up in places they hadn't been seen.

Will more professions run for office. Less lawyers more teachers/scientist?

I wanted to make this a post. Figured maybe adding to this.

If a fat guy falls in the woods and there is no one around to see it, do the trees laugh?

The economy and debt need to be reset. That's the only way in my opinion.

- Clear everyone's debt

- Institute universal healthcare. The system would be supported by statutory healthcare and private healthcare

- issue a Universal basic income, so that people can have housing, food, and transportation

- Education should be free or rates should be similar to European countries. Germany and France, etc, have institutions that don't charge tuition. And the ones that do barely charge 500 Euros per semester.

- Get rid of the fraction system....and move over to the metric system like the rest of the world : )

The real big con would be high taxes in order to support the system, which I wouldn't mind, as long as the welfare of the people is being fully supported.

188. "I've come to the conclusion my industry is over as I knew it."
In response to Reply # 173

Someone on the Kitchen Confidential subreddit asked, "what happens when this is 'over'?" and it just so happened to follow me reading the first third of Dave Chang's recent interview in the NY Times. I wish more people had responded so I wasn't the most upvoted response on the topic, but maybe that's the problem. My spot is fighting as hard as it can / is emotionally capable of, but I really think the restaurant world we all grew to love through the late 2000s and 2010s has died an immediate death.

------

I'm more inclined to see things the way Dave Chang does.

"More than anything, David (Marchese, the NY Times profiler interviewing Chang), I do not want to incite panic and hysteria, but I think for restaurants and the service industry, there is going to be a morbidly high business death rate. My fear is the restaurants that survive are going to be the big chains, and we’re going to eradicate the very eclectic mix that makes America and going out to eat so vibrant and great. And there is a lot of feeling that even in good times, if chefs can’t make their numbers, they’re going to lose everything, so imagine what they must be feeling now. When the economy is booming, it’s hard for restaurants to get loans from the bank because there’s no assets to back them. I don’t know if it’s going to be feasible for the government to give out a stimulus loan to a restaurant or restaurant groups the way they were able to do in 2008 to the auto companies. So I’m trying to figure out what the best way is. The government should give a greater bailout package to real estate owners so that there can be relief for restaurant owners. It has to move up the chain."

Similarly, I don't want to be grim. My restaurant pivoted to delivery and takeout, we're slowly getting into cocktail takeout/delivery but aren't really investing in that the way some other area restaurants and bars are (some of the takeaway packaging I've seen is truly beautiful and inspired) so I'm not sure that'll really become a backbone for us financially the way it was when we were a dine-in restaurant. I'm in a position where I can see the numbers, and I know the only reason we're even open is our food skirts the line between fine dining and casual in a way that it can be delivered while our landlord asks for a percentage of profits rather than the actual value of our real estate. Without her philosophy of cultural identity as a driver of commerce and creativity we would already be closed.

There is going to be a lot of psychological turmoil people are not going to be able to afford to deal with. Every day before I go in, I nearly - or do - cry about all the coworkers I'm not going to see that day. Every day when I leave, I feel so emotionally drained from the experience - even on a good day - all I can do is go home, sit in the dark and wait to get tired enough to sleep. And I'm still working. A lot of very qualified, very passionate service workers are going to transition into other lines of work because they don't have a choice, and if/when the restaurants they worked at re-open they'll have to balance the security they've found in their new jobs vs. the gamble that their old job will be as lucrative or lifestyle-sustaining as it was before. Most, I suspect, will take the former no matter how much nostalgia they have for the latter.

Many of the diners that have the disposable income to continue supporting their favorite restaurants will lose that frivolous impulse as the impact of sporting events, industry conferences and other sources of tens of millions of dollars in revenue trickles upward into their industries as well. Others just won't trust that they can comfortably go back to dining in with the snap of a finger, while others still will have a bad experience on an understaffed, undertrained and overstressed night that is way busier and more chaotic than they're used to and decide staying home and getting delivery or cooking themselves has proved more comfortable and reliable. Or they'll have become so used to the shift in pricing - Alinea is selling $35 meal plans rather than $300 dinners - they just won't be able to justify the expense no matter how fond their memories of the old days.

I think ultimately the dining landscape is going to look a lot more like it did in the '80s than it did in the '00s, commercially and financially efficient but unchallenging and slightly dispassionate. You'll find the same product from the same producers and distributors under every single roof, with everyone desperately afraid to shake things up or express the personality of the owners and their staff for fear the risk of individuality is too damn high.

... also the world in general. I'm a city dweller and so my wife and I count on the restaurant experience for such a huge portion of our social life. Having to depend on just chain restaurants would be so disappointing.

I hope that something can be done. We are trying to order out from our favorite local places as much as possible in an effort to help as much as we can.

Wishing you and your business well, as well as the restaurant business at large.

He is definitely more candid and somber in tone in recent days, especially relative to the early days of this thing.

2-3 weeks ago he was saying it's no big deal. The numbers are small and going down to zero. It will be all over by April. It's like the flu.

Contrast those statements to: it's going to be a very bad next 2 weeks. We expect 100-200k deaths. This is not the flu

That's what I was saying above. He is definitely more centered and concerned. He is still a terrible leader, but at least now he isn't all over the place with what is going on.

He is still going to be a self-centered political figure, and attack those who criticize and judge his position. And he still has a long ways to go, because all states are still not following the same directive, and there needs to be more more federal guidance.

2 weeks ago he was oblivious and apathetic, and was delusional about everything. Now he understands how serious this shit is, and how bodies are dropping left and right on his watch....

It is simply a statement about what went on today at the press conference. Today Trump was candid (this is going to be a very painful two weeks) and somber (it's a matter of life and death).

How am I being conned? I watched the press conference. That is what happened.

I also watched the other press conferences. He usually is not candid and somber.
And his next appearance may very well go back to his old ways. But none of that changes the description of today's press conference

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/31/us/politics/trump-approval-rating.html

Robert Taylor, 31, a computer programmer in York County, Pa., wants Senator Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic nominee and is unsure if he will vote for Mr. Biden in a contest against the president.

“I’m not one of those people who hate Trump and thinks everything he’s done is wrong,” he said. He could vote for Mr. Trump if the president successfully leads the country through the coronavirus crisis, Mr. Taylor said. “We’ll see how he handles everything from here on out.”

Two months ago, Neil Ferguson of Earling, Iowa, stood in a corner for Senator Amy Klobuchar at Iowa’s Democratic caucuses. But he is displeased today by Democrats criticizing Mr. Trump’s leadership and wants the country to rally around the president at a time of national emergency.

“At some point we’ve got to get behind this together,” he said. “Every step of the way he’s criticized,” he said of the president. “I know a lot of voters out here that say yeah, had they given the guy a chance, maybe things would have been a lot better.”

Mr. Ferguson, 67, who is retired from the military, regularly watches the White House briefings, and though he sometimes winces over the president’s rambling delivery, he is impressed with Vice President Mike Pence and with Mr. Trump’s responses to reporters.

“When he gets to the question-and-answer period, he is pretty point-on,” he said. Four years ago Mr. Ferguson voted for a third-party candidate, but this year he has decided to vote for the president.

Among voters already supportive of Mr. Trump, recent polling shows their enthusiasm to support him in November is running well ahead of the enthusiasm of Biden backers. Janice Friedel, a professor in Des Moines and a Democrat, liked Mr. Trump before the virus hit, and now her support has grown stronger.

“I thought President Trump was doing OK, but this really has brought out his strong leadership, his ability to bring people together across the aisle,” she said. “I am a Democrat, but I am going to vote for him. I don’t see leadership on the Democratic side. But I certainly will vote for Trump.”

There's a lot more in that article, but man, the way people with seemingly useful opinions get swayed by trauma to support the man who allowed that trauma to occur is really depressing.

they want to feel ANYTHING. even more now that we're in this pandemic.

love him or hate him, Trump makes you feel SOMETHING.

Biden is just...EMPTY. there's nothing there. if anything, you just feel sorry for his "oldness." you don't hate him, he doesn't inspire, etc. he's a nothingburger.

now, i'm not saying these people are right AT ALL. Trump is the worst president this country has ever had and he's not getting better and this epidemic shouldn't make him look presidential to you.

and, at the end of it all, FEELINGS cloud judgement, so i get why seemingly rational people could lean towards Trump over Biden.

Unfortunately this is a country of populism so you need someone inspiring ON TOP of someone ideological.

Trump has no ideology besides racism and hate, but like you said he elicits feelings out of people. And I truly believe that, because they're stupider, republicans have a tendency to lean into FEELINGS over substance moreso than dems do.

>There's a reason why people go nuts over Trump and Bernie.

1 lost the popular vote by 3 million people. the other struggles to win 40% of the votes *in the democratic party* outside of states like id, nd, and vt.

thats an interesting way to make the case that the party should run anti-pragmatic(?) candidates because people dont vote for pragmatism.

trump relies on a heavily concentrated minority base that depends on anti-democratic aspects of our electoral system to win (electoral college, voter suppression, low turnout, misinformation, etc).

bernie relies on a heavily concentrated minority base that depends on anti-democratic aspects of our electoral system to win (caucuses, low turnout, divided field, etc).

those are the blueprints you think the national (D)emocratic party should follow to win federal elections?

numbers over narrative. people need to stop reinforcing storylines that feel good to them over facts/data.

if you ask anyone would they start with a pragmatist who gets the votes of a broad swath majority or a firebrand who passionately excites a minority of voters...the minority candidate is obviously the suckers bet.

and i like how obama has been revised as some wildcard energetic progressive (by the same people who call him a neoliberal republican no less) despite the fact he ran on a platform safely within the mainstream of the democratic party and even triangulated on important issues to appeal to a coalition of working class whites and disaffected republicans (mitt romneys healthcare plan).

the obama coalition wasnt built because he wasnt pragmatic. it was the pragmatism that built the coalition. if political coalition building isnt pragmatic then i dont know what is (ask bernies campaign lol).

then you listed hillary as a pragmatic. shes the 2nd highest vote getter in the entire history of the country (2nd only to obama).

you listed bernie and trump as the opposite of pragmatic. neither of them have won over a majority/plurality of american voters. one cant even win over a majority/plurality of the party he wants to lead.

you listed obama as the opposite of pragmatic. his coalition and entire political identity was built on shrewd pragmatism (no drama obama).

so do you care to clarify your original comments or do you wanna keep riding with conclusions that are objectively false?

I don't necessarily think your last point is true. The wave of Obama support started after his speech at the 2004 DNC; which was naturally much more about hype and personality than it was policy and pragmatism.

And, in PROMO's defense, I don't think he was saying that Obama *wasn't* pragmatic. Just saying that he had both and the magnetism of a candidate is ultimately what swings the voters needed to win in our shitty election system one way or the other.

it assumes a large amount of swing voters do sway with the wind.

but swing voters historically just largely sway against the party in power. some of them after 4 years. and a lot more of them after 8 years. which is why its hard for 1 party to win 3 terms.

we talk about obama-trump voters. but a lot of them are really just clinton-bush-obama-trump voters. all 4 of those were inaugurated from the party out of power.

plus we concentrate on those white non college educated voters in areas that swung to trump (presumably captivated by a non-pragmatic candidate) more than those suburban white college educated voters in population growth areas that swung to clinton and dems in general since 2016 (captivated by centrist/pragmatic candidates). which is why clinton still got the most votes.

one of those groups is declining. one of those groups is ascending. its illogical to think dems should abandon basic electoral math to center their approach around the former at the risk of alienating the latter.

and to put a subtle/technical cap on it...trump running moderate on lgbtq identity, courting pence for evangelicals, and appealing to ancestral party loyalists by running on specific reaganisms (make america great again)...were those not cynically pragmatic ploys?

and one last point...we talk about pragmatists/moderates/centrists losing in the general. how come we never talk about why those pragmatists/moderates/centrists more overwhelmingly win the party primary to get to the general (and by safe margins)? the (D)emocratic base is broad in itself. why dont these anti-pragmatic candidates who dems supposedly should rely on to win the general appeal to the majority of the base first?

>I don't necessarily think your last point is true. The wave of

well its not gonna be heavy on policy because it was a convention keynote speech from someone who isnt running for president lol.

but from obamas speech:
"Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America — there's the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too: We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States, and, yes, we've got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq."

i mean...thats the type of centrist broad platitude pandering/pragmatism that anti-centrists make fun of. lets not forget the speech was in support of dem nominee john kerry lol.

people (not directed at you but you know the type im referring too) cant try to reframe obamas rise as some mantle of unabashed leftism when he clearly staked out ground in the boring platitudinous center (which is where the majority of votes reside).

>And, in PROMO's defense, I don't think he was saying that

that would just make him a good retail politician then. so are the non-pragmatic candidates just not good politicians in your opinion? (chicken/egg?)

Exclusive: Kushner Firm Built the Coronavirus Website Trump Promised
The extent of Oscar Health’s work on coronavirus testing hasn’t been previously reported.

Editor's Note: The Atlantic is making vital coverage of the coronavirus available to all readers. Find the collection here.

On March 13, President Donald Trump promised Americans they would soon be able to access a new website that would ask them about their symptoms and direct them to nearby coronavirus testing sites. He said Google was helping.

That wasn’t true. But in the following days, Oscar Health—a health-insurance company closely connected to Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner—developed a government website with the features the president had described. A team of Oscar engineers, project managers, and executives spent about five days building a stand-alone website at the government’s request, an Oscar spokesperson told The Atlantic. The company even dispatched two employees from New York to meet in person with federal officials in Washington, D.C., the spokesperson said. Then the website was suddenly and mysteriously scrapped.

The site would not have helped many Americans even if it had launched. Today, more than two weeks after the president promised a national network of drive-through test sites, only a handful of such sites have opened, and fewer than 1 million Americans have been tested.

The full extent of Oscar’s work on the project has not been previously reported. The partnership between the administration and the firm suggests that Kushner may have mingled his family’s business interests with his political interests and his role in the administration’s coronavirus response. Kushner’s younger brother Joshua is a co-founder and major investor in Oscar, and Jared Kushner partially owned or controlled Oscar before he joined the White House. The company’s work on the coronavirus website could violate federal ethics laws, several experts said.

For the past several weeks, Kushner has led a “shadow task force” on the coronavirus, separate from Vice President Mike Pence’s official committee, according to The Washington Post. Kushner’s team, composed of federal officials allied with Kushner and outside corporate executives, has met in the headquarters of the Department of Health and Human Services. A senior official at that agency called Oscar to ask for its help on March 13, the day of Trump’s press conference, the Oscar spokesperson said.

Kushner’s group has focused on expanding and publicizing coronavirus testing, especially at drive-through locations. Oscar’s website would have asked users if they were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, and surveyed them about other risk factors, including their age and preexisting conditions. It also would have listed a limited number of testing locations nationwide, including some of the drive-through sites that Trump promised. It was designed to look like a government-developed product, provided freely by the Department of Health and Human Services to the American public. Oscar posted the source code for the site to Github, where The Atlantic reviewed it.

The site resembled a version of a tool Oscar had already built for its customers in response to the crisis, but it was “adjusted to meet the specifications and requirements set by the federal government,” Jackie Kahn, the Oscar spokesperson, said in an emailed statement. That Oscar had already been working on a coronavirus-testing website when HHS called to ask for help was a coincidence that had nothing to do with Kushner, Kahn suggested. She declined to say whether Oscar had discussed that site with Joshua Kushner or any board members or investors before Trump’s March 13 press conference.

Oscar donated its work freely and never expected to be paid for the project, Kahn said. The company is “not, nor has ever been,” a contractor or subcontractor for the government, she said, which would make it harder for the government to pay Oscar for its work. The work was “all at the direction of HHS,” she said. “The website never saw the light of day,” she added in an interview today.

That may not matter from an ethics perspective. The ad hoc nature of Kushner’s task force has already collided with federal laws. Oscar’s involvement deepens Kushner’s ethics and conflict-of-interest problems.

“It’s not typical. It’s usually not allowed,” Jessica Tillipman, an assistant dean at the George Washington University School of Law and an expert on anti-corruption law, told me.

Oscar’s relationship with the Trump administration could breach federal law in two ways, Tillipman and other experts told me. First, companies are generally not supposed to work for the federal government for free, though some exceptions can be made in a national emergency. “The concern, when you have some free services, is that it makes the government beholden to the company,” Tillipman said.

More important, she said, any Kushner involvement may have violated the “impartiality rule,” which requires federal employees to refrain from making decisions when they even appear to involve a conflict of interest. The rule also prohibits federal employees from making a decision in which close relatives may have a financial stake. Such a situation would seem to apply to Kushner and Oscar. In 2013, Jared and Joshua were the “ultimate controlling persons in Oscar’s holding company,” according to a New York State report that Mother Jones dug up earlier this month. When the elder Kushner joined the White House, he disclosed that he had been on the board of Oscar’s holding company from May 2010 to January 2017. He also said that he had sold his shares in the holding company for somewhere between $1.2 million and $7 million. Joshua still holds a stake in the company. When Jared joined the administration, he sold his shares to either Joshua or a trust controlled by their mother, according to his financial disclosures.

Kushner did not divest all the assets that he owned jointly with his brother when he joined the White House. Earlier this month, he sold his stake in Cadre, a real-estate investment firm that he owned with Joshua. The stake was worth tens of millions of dollars as recently as last year, Kushner said in his disclosures.

There was nothing wrong with Oscar’s arrangement with the government, Kahn argued. “This was the right thing to do, both legally and ethically, and if anyone has any doubt that COVID-19 is an emergency, he’s lost his mind,” she said. “We are enormously proud of our people who put serving the nation ahead of everything during this time of crisis.”

Oscar’s description of its work for the administration has changed over time. Two weeks ago, the company told Business Insider that it had “shared code” with the Department of Health and Human Services, but it did not disclose that it had actually made a website. Last week, Kahn told me in an interview that the company had merely “shrink-wrapped” its code, a piece of jargon that meant it had disconnected the code from its in-house technical platforms so that it could work on other servers. Her statement today admitted that Oscar had gone much further.

When viewed earlier today, the URL coronavirustesting.gov offered an Amazon Web Services error, suggesting that someone with access to the .gov domain had registered the website.

The Department of Health and Human Services declined to produce paperwork authorizing Oscar’s donation of the website work. “Multiple vendors worked on proposals, and we appreciate their work,” an HHS spokeswoman said. “Ultimately, Apple launched the new tool.” But Apple’s COVID-19 tool is a page on Apple.com, not a stand-alone government site like the one Oscar built.

Oscar’s creation more closely resembled the website Trump described on March 13. The site would “determine whether a test is warranted and … facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location,” Trump said, adding that Google had 1,700 engineers working on the project. Google, it was quickly revealed, didn’t have any such plans.

Google’s parent company is a major investor in Oscar. And Oscar, which has roughly 1,500 employees, did build a site like the one Trump described.

The White House declined to comment.

regardless of the individual variables/behaviors...people still herd into predictable patterns on a large scale.

his rise in approval is far below predecessors and other current public officials fighting the virus tho. so other fundamental factors do still count to a significant degree too (and shouldnt be dismissed).

I know a lot of people don't believe in vitamins. But vitamin D is the only one you don't get from food. You get it from sun exposure.

Who told you that you don’t get vitamin d from food?

The sun is a source, but you also get vitamin d for from fish and eggs.
Those are great sources.

and you should definitely supplement. Especially the farther north you live.

Yeah you get it from some foods and the sun, but all should still supplement.

OKP is anti-vitamin?

I have no idea where he got that from.

I say get micronutrients from real food instead of going to supplements.

Macronutrients : protein, fat, carbs....you need those nutrients in order for the body to have energy and live

Protein: meat, beans, eggs, nuts

Carbs: fruit, veggies, beans, grains

Fat: meat and oils, some fruits like coconuts and avocado

Micronutrient: vitamins and minerals : you need those nutrients for cell and organ function as well as cell and organ growth.

You eat macronutrients to get micronutrients....

A plate of baked salmon with asparagus and potatoes( red, sweet, etc) will provide you with so many micronutrients. It’s all about pairing basic real foods.

I would eat a pot roast with mash potatoes ( made with no diary) and peas and carrots over most crap that is served in a restaurant any day.

Just eat real food and you will get everything you need.

Your approach is great.

We still don’t get enough vitamin d through diet. Trust me.

Just take a pill once per day.

True.

Just saying we lived for centuries without supplements ( pills in a bottle), and got plenty of Vitamin D through our diets and sunlight.

Are you referring to black people? Who during slavery lived in mostly the south and worked mostly in the fields.

The great migration didn't start until 1916. That was 100 years ago, not for centuries. Ended in the 1970s...
