"Do You Still Use/Have A Paypal Account?"

with things like cash app, ebay not requiring payment via them, virtual credit card apps for security/privacy, etc.

do you still find use for a paypal account?

An old friend and I had narrowed our topics of conversation down to just baseball. Like, literally the only thing we ever talk about. Then he got married, moved to the suburbs, and had a pair of kids like... instantly. The friendship is valuable to me, but not so valuable that I'm willing to drive out to McLean once or twice a year. So, we text and he recruited me to join the world's stupidest, most complex fantasy baseball league in the world. This is my third year in it and the rules are still largely a mystery to me. I just maintain a team, talk to my old friend, and finish mid-pack every year.

But it costs 40 dollars to entry and the commissioner wants either paypal or a paper check and I don't think I've written one of those in a half decade. So paypal it is.

I was at celebrate Brooklyn and a guy wanted to buy a nutcracker and asked if the seller had cash app. He did and that’s how he paid for it....

My tax preparer only accepts cash or cash app.

I like the cash app debit card which you can have inscribed with your signature and emojis

Venmo has an annoying social feed.

PayPal sends/receives money just fine. Plus so many people are using different platforms now which kind of defeats the point.

I really don't understand the thing on Venmo where you can see who is sending money to who. Why tf would I want to see that or have my info public??

This is what I'm thinking. I don't understand why people hate PayPal so much.

I heard one horror story from a seller where PayPal held her funds and tried to ban her for no good reason but that's it.

I've used PayPal for at least 15 years as a buyer and seller. I haven't had any problems.

- PayPal gives me instant access to my funds

- Many of the small businesses that I order from online use PayPal as the sole option or one of many options. Think Okayplayer, Philadelphia Printworks, Oyin Handmade...so many.

- I like don't like putting my debit/credit/checking information directly into individual websites. I like a middle man, like PayPal, for online transactions. To me, it's safer.

- I am open to using Google Pay and Amazon Pay, too, but I still websites using PayPal more often.

- Outside of the web, I use CashApp, as the customer for food/catering pop-ups in the city. I don't like the informality of CashApp for conducting business. I think it's more appropriate for family and friends--not paying for a kid's extracurriculars! PayPal has seller/buyer protections, a formal invoice process, etc.

As an aside, this post is very timely because I just learned, very late into the game, that eBay is switching to "managed payments." All of this is likely the result of the split between eBay and PayPal.

I'm so mad because it means I won't have instant access to my funds anymore. Sellers are going to have to wait at least 1-2 days.

My financial situation has drastically improved and I won't need instant access to funds as I did before but I'm still upset. eBay had an advantage over sites that make you wait days or weeks for payment, e.g. Amazon Marketplace, Poshmark. I feel for people who are cash strapped and rely on eBay for emergencies. eBay got me through a rough period of unemployment and some folks are going to SOL in 2021.

business like getting money from people that owe me money, or repaying someone, or chipping in on a meal, splitting check etc....
Also I use Google Pay to accept payment from clients because they don't charge a fee like PayPal does....I know you can get around the PayPal fee by categorizing it as a friend to friend transaction though....

It never seems to work unless I use the CC I have on file.

Seems pointless but maybe I’m doing it wrong.

When people say they hate PayPal is it a political thing? Based on who made it? Cause I don’t get the frustration.

Originally had it for ebay but now I use it for uber, uber eats, grubhub, bandcamp, etc. Easier to have my bank account tied to these accounts since it won't expire or the number changing like a credit or debit card.
