I'd never pay anything over $100 unless the rewards/points were astronomical. Paying a $600 fee would probably wipe out most if not all (or more) of the rewards/points you'd receive on any given credit card unless you find a card with some insane program that I've never heard of, or you spend a ton of money. Haha.

I get it all back plus some more.
$300 travel credit 3x cash back on travel and restaurants Trip delay insurance (used it once a year saving me from playing $300 for a hotel and food) Airport lounge access 1.5 to 1 ratio when redeeming points for travel (turns a $500 flight to a $333 flight)
They're raising the fee to $550 though. At that level, I don't think it works for me. They are adding some Lyft and door dash benefits, but I don't use that stuff often
So I'll probably downgrade after next year after I re-up on their TSA pre check reimbursement
The AmEx Platinum Card is $550 a year. But, you get $200 in airline fee credits and $200 in Uber credits for the card cost. That makes it worth it right there. Not to mention added airport lounge access, plus TSA PRE/GlobalEntry reimbursement every 5 years and the plenty of other travel perks.
Probably all expensive cards, like that one, offer comparable perks. So, my answer is...if it's worth it.
