Please take this opportunity to try to convince people to vote for ur candidate

Stop whining about, “why are they focusing on us more than Bernie”

Whatever space u are in, Okp, Twitter, ig, in the real world, advocate for ur candidate, make people understand why he is the best candidate

But please recognize that YOU represent the candidate, why are people focused on you?? Becuz Bernie sanders doesn’t post here

But when u act an ass, and u say ur supporting that candidate, it makes people want to stay way away from whatever you are selling

Way away

Don’t double down on stupid. A lot of people haven’t voted yet, use ur energy in a productive way.

Or not lol

We've had a year now to make our respective decisions. Sanders made a hell of a run - and it took the party's Voltron-like consolidation just to beat one candidate.

The mature thing to do at this juncture would be to try and heal the very real divisions within the party. If you think continuing to sound off on "Bernie bros" and laughing at their candidate is going to achieve that division, good luck to you.

You've hitched your wagon to a very weak candidate - so you have to take some responsibility for the outcome in November - just as those who promoted the inequitable 2016 primary to prop up Clinton (while elevating Trump simultaneously) had to take responsibility for that debacle.

Hopefully I'm wrong and Biden galvanizes enough swing-voters to beat Trump. But unlike 2016 - when the overwhelming majority of Bernie supporters voted for Clinton - and less Bernie supporters voted for Trump than did Clinton supporters in '08 who voted for McCain - we've got a real problem on our hands now:

I think you need an extended break.

My guess is few people here who actively talk politics actually voted for Joe.

We didn't hitch our wagon to shit in that sense.

Bernie didn't get enough votes. You were wrong about the movement. You were wrong about youth turnout. Wrong about black voters.

etc

>You've hitched your wagon to a very weak candidate - so you
>have to take some responsibility for the outcome in November -

Long as everyone here votes for the Dem.

Anyone criticizing Bernie right now has responsibility?

What about the Bernie folks who spent the last 6 months attacking Warren and pretty much ignoring Biden?

What about the Bernie campaign not making progress with older black voters?

What about Bernie worrying more about running up the MA score than trying to soften the blow in South Carolina?

>just as those who promoted the inequitable 2016 primary to
>prop up Clinton (while elevating Trump simultaneously) had to
>take responsibility for that debacle.

Jesus dude not everything is a fucking scorecard.

This isn't '16. This was a real primary with a ton of choices.

Bernie still didn't get enough votes. You were wrong.

>
>Hopefully I'm wrong and Biden galvanizes enough swing-voters
>to beat Trump.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, if Biden is such a weak candidate why couldn't Bernie get more votes than him??

I actually think Joe is a fucking awful candidate.

But I can't say "Bernie would win!" when he can't even get more Dems to vote for him than Joe.

You keep wanting to set this up like its the establishment or somehow the fault of some of us who have clowned you.

But at the end of the day, Bernie just didn't get enough votes.

But unlike 2016 - when the overwhelming
>majority of Bernie supporters voted for Clinton - and less
>Bernie supporters voted for Trump than did Clinton supporters
>in '08 who voted for McCain

LOL do you have a spreadsheet of arguments you try to work in?

That says a lot more about Bernie supporters than anything else, man.

Another thing you don't get- you keep perpetuating the stereotype.

I hope that Biden is smarter that Hillary in that he gives the left something to be hyped about in a VP pick.

Even then, he is a terrible candidate.

I just wish guys like you would have focused more on attacking Joe than Warren

i do trust bernie to keep us out of unnecessary wars
i trust bernie to keep his focus on making health care affordable for the working class and those in need
to raise wages
to go after corruption in washington and corporate america
to push for policies that ensure equal rights for everyone
to put in place reforms on the justice system including getting rid of private prisons
to actually get infrastructure investment rolling
to put in place policies to attack climate change

i recognize any democratic president will face a lot of resistance to implement any of that. i think beginning negotiations holding bernies position on all of that is a good starting place.

im still wrapping my head around the support for biden. i think in most states there was like 15% of voters that were undecided until 3 days before. how they broke seemed to be the story of each state.

michigan is weird, biden did play a big part in nafta which did devastate the area. he then played a big part in the bailout which maaaaybe wouldnt be necessary if it wasnt for nafta.

bernies trade policies are exactly what the area is looking for. at least on a superficial level. i havent lived there in over 10 years so it very likely has changed.

im mostly over this primary. i dont think im going to watch coverage tonight.

And really get a sense of what voters want now, especially in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania (Arizona too)

Biden’s support is not surprising if u think about what dem voters consistently said is their number one thing they are looking for , electability/who can beat trump

Biden’s campaign was left for dead, his people knew they needed a win, a huge win, to buttress what he was mainly running on, his electability. So they bet the farm on SC, secured the endorsements they needed and road that to an electability clinic that drove that argument home. Simone sanders and others deserve much credit, they were on their back foot and they didn’t complain or whine, they got it done

when i look back at all the candidates i dont see how biden is the choice for most people using that measuring stick. i think its more so that enough voters didnt like any of the other choices. people kept waiting to fall in love with pete or amy or whoever and when that didnt happen they said sure why not joe. even in nevada electability was the number one issue and bernie won big.

was clyburns endorsement really that big to people in SC? or were people already going with biden and that just sealed it? once everyone dropped out and endorsed biden it made sense the voters would go with him. i dont question that. i wonder what would had happened on super tuesday if pete had stayed in. based on polls before super tuesday biden probably still wins big.

im just hoping biden is fully there and his gaffes are just that, gaffes. im hoping he still has command.

the same ones that have farm bankruptcies increasing by 20% (even with bailouts)...10% of all wisconsin dairy farms wiped out in a few years...and the closure of steel/steel-reliant factories in the rust belt that brought about the current manufacturing recession.

much of bernies global worldview is colored by the same cultural protectionism that trumps is. it was actually lefty populism before trump injected it into a traditionally free trade party.

it was tariffs that accelerated the great depression. those were largely based on cultural aggrievement too.

strategic regional economic/diplomatic alliances like tpp would do more to keep china in check than any tariff ever could.

this idea of protecting our dying manufacturing sector (which would be in bad shape even without nafta) and demonizing trade agreements that led to the long term viability of our agricultural sector is weird.

much of the economy in the sun belt and the entire agricultural midwest is built on nafta. which is why republicans panicked back when trump was threatening to outright cancel nafta. it woulda been the end of their party.

than trade lol.

People are so used to being able to freely travel within the region without having to apply for visas etc that they forget this is something that actually had to be arranged between the countries. Who tf wants to have to apply for a visa and pay fees every time they want to take off to mexico for a vacation?? Weird. Or, if you're a small-business owner, you have eased access to sell to/service the Canadian and Mexican markets bc of NAFTA. This enables entrepreneurs to case a wider net. And as professionals, depending on your field and degree, you're allowed to work in the other countries bc it includes a work permit provision that can literally be approved same-day. This is actually kind of important for folks in places like Michigan... some of whom live on one side of the border and commute to their job on the other side.

I thought the country that experienced the least growth due to NAFTA was Mexico, which the improved labor standards are supposed to combat? Weren't those improvements actually being pushed for by the Dems?

I donno. And good points on everything else you said too.

In response to Reply # 17

Especially because all of the candidates (except Sanders - who still stands by his view that the plurality leader should be the nom) have said that the candidate with the most votes shouldn't be the nominee - and that it should play out at the convention.

This would effectively enable the party to hand-pick the ticket in the event that Biden doesn't earn the majority threshold.

I do think it’s funny that everyone said they wanted the process to play out when Bernie looked like he was making moves.

Watch how all these people switch up if Biden doesn’t cross the threshold.

I honestly think Bernie is going to tap out if he can’t keep it close tonight.

Right. At some point you have to recognize that you're not welcome at the table. I think it's a wrap after tonight.

In response to Reply # 17

If/when Biden wins, there is a rule that allows his removal over health issues -- and specific DNC Members, almost all of whom are Neoliberal DINOs who donate to Republicans while protecting vast wealth, will choose a new one:

"Filling a Vacancy on the National Ticket: In the event of death, resignation or disability of a nominee of the Party for President or Vice President after the adjournment of the National Convention, the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee shall confer with the Democratic leadership of the United States Congress and the Democratic Governors Association and shall report to the Democratic National Committee, which is authorized to fill the vacancy or vacancies."

This is the last rule they have to use to try to control the process and manipulate the outcome. Given Joe's very clear cognitive decline - this could be triggered.

In response to Reply # 39

seems kinda relevant, doesn't it?

Also - I don't think anyone who has objectively assessed both candidates throughout the course of this primary would say that Sanders is any way more unfit than Biden. In fact, Sanders has endured a far more grueling schedule - and has shown time and time again that he has mastered the issues with multiple one hour stump speeches that show a very sharp mind.

As for Joe? His team has repeatedly tried to save him from doing interviews and decrease his exposure to media - because they know what we all know: Joe isn't sharp and is not only gaffe-prone -- but is flat out just lying - and it's not clear as to if he's lying because he's just being dishonest - or if it's because he genuinely can't remember key points in history.

Had she dropped out after NH, I think a decent amount of Bern supporters would have said she should have never run

If she goes on SNL, she is a traitor.

If it gets out that she refused to go on SNL, it would be "see, this is why no one likes her!"

Careful here though, cuz looks like Bernie has been on too

Let me guess, Warrens appearance was just at the wrong time?

Or that it worked out that way?

I thought the former, until I saw the way he tried to actually win votes and it seemed, like, nasty and personal to him. I think Bloomberg may have been coaxed in as a spoiler but that the coaxing worked because a billionaire's brain is pretty susceptible to believing it's the smartest and best.

Either one seems reasonable. Just curious.

That makes sense. I'm on the fence about that with Bloomberg, as I'm not sure he enters the election at all if Sanders or Warren didn't seem like real possibilities.

But Warren's decisions, both the ones that worked and the ones that didn't, seem entirely owing to her thinking that she'd be a good president. I'm happy to sign on to any number of criticisms of her,* but it's hard to credit any view that she wasn't in this for the right reasons - all the way up until she dropped out.

*being angriest at the people who are ALMOST like you but deviate in one or two small-but-important ways seems like a pretty common thing. I always tell my classes the dumb story of the instinctive revulsion the first time I saw somebody cross themselves in the Eastern Orthodox fashion. It seemed like a deliberate profanity, except that's how his enormous and ancient church had been doing it since forever.

Bloomberg felt threatened by Liz and Bernie and thought he' be a more viable moderate option than Biden and the current crop, and he could swoop in and ride his money to the nomination.

bernie already had his voters, he was not picking up significant votes from steyer/pete/amy. if those supporters had fears about biden being a very stable word person then maybe they would have gone with warren. they obviously didnt, but i do think that was a reasonable possibility.

as i had said before super tuesday i didnt think the bulk of warren support was going to bernie, if anything it would be split near 50/50. i think she was hoping to hit her high end projections. that enough voters would look at bernie and biden and say nope, id rather go with warren.

the results of super tuesday turned her into a non-factor either way.

plus she already pulled a NYT and endorsed both of them

In Warren's case, she was pretty nearly explicit about hoping for a contested convention. It may have been a gross thing to hope for with a very, very outside chance of being the one to emerge from that happenstance but I believe she wanted it. I don't know, maybe I'm being naive about this. I shouldn't trust a politician in 2020 who thinks our basic relationship between labor and capital just needs to be tweaked and maintained because that's usually an obvious lie. It just... seems like she believes it.

Though I should also clarify that I don't think there's anything wrong with being a spoiler. Sanders' view of how our political culture should function pants him into a corner where his candidacy isn't even really his candidacy and giving it up means giving up a lot more than just Bernie Sanders for President 2020. At the very least, he shouldn't bow out without scaring the hell out of the eventual winners. Seems dumb to get so close and to be treated as such a potentially disruptive force without extracting anything useful from it. Even if he doesn't win, we're depending on him to keep the ball rolling one way or another. Bowing out gracefully doesn't seem likely to accomplish that.

Maybe, like most Democrats, she's not convinced by his schtick.

"We have been cursed with the reign of gold long enough. Money constitutes no proper basis of civilization. The time has come to regenerate society — we are on the eve of universal change."

Eugene Debs said that in 1897, and that beautiful man's bravado points to the gift and curse of understanding history as class struggle. Being a socialist means being right about everything except the timeline.

Vote for Bernie Sanders. Then go do something more important than voting to advance the cause of socialism in the world.

y'all are annoying.

both of y'all.

i'm a Bernie supporter.

if he wins (the nomination)? dope. i feel like he is the best shot at actual change (until AOC can run if she does). this country is in SORE need of change. i think he will be able to rally the vote and connect with the people that dems need to connect with that they will even overlook some of his ideas they don't necessarily agree with to at least get trump out. then, we can start figuring out if his plans are truly doable and if we want to do them (i feel like people forget that regardless of what any candidate says, they don't get just make the rules solely by themselves - though trump is putting that to the test with the blind backing of congress).

if he loses? ok that's the way the cookie crumbles. back to the drawing board. even if you feel that the DNC scammed him, there will come a candidate soon come (fingers crossed) that has too much sway for the DNC to stick their nose in the business. let's try to make some shit happen to make that a reality than whine about the past.

if Biden wins? i hope he has the ability to beat trump because trump is bad for this country EVEN if you're pro-trump (and not rich). and if he does beat trump i hope he has the foresight to realize this country is for the young and that he involves people in his administration who will bring change, because he himself won't.

if he loses? then people need to realize he lost on his OWN merits. trump will have outsmarted him, made him look like a fool etc. or he may not have the policies or be engaging enough to bring people to the polls and that holds true for the people that are Bernie supporters because they probably hate trump more than anyone, so if you couldn't convince them that its worth it to put the bickering aside and come out then you didn't do enough. you weren't the right guy for the job.

both of y'all are giving normal people like me a fucking headache.

edit: and for the record i will vote for any Dem candidate to get trump the fuck outta here, but i have little hope for any real difference under Biden. it will be Obama-esque i'd imagine, which was fine i suppose, but ultimately ended up being ho-hum in comparison to the change it SEEMED Obama was poised to bring (in his own words too, not just our expectations).

The sooner the party can unite - the better. But I think there will be even more division and contempt (on both sides) this year than there was in 2016.

There's a ton of work to do.

for one...the process itself wasnt biased against bernie. he was the only 2020 candidate that got to write the rules theyd be competing under. he got a fair shake in a highly competitive primary and i think most rational people will come to their senses on that once the raw emotion dies down.

for two...hes not gonna stay in the race way long and continue to go negative/divisive like 2016. him and aoc have already started to subtly mend things and push their coalition towards unity. that will go a long way in calming tensions.

but what matters is building bridges to the actual voters. Biden is not beating Trump without mending fences with the Sanders base. It's going to be very important in how both he and the party goes about building that bridge - and I can't stress that enough.

But the rest of these posters are gloating about Bernie losing so far

Even though it’s more than likely their preferred candidate dropped out long ago

I believe that is called trolling.

If we're all motivated to beat Trumpster(s)...then we should be having conversations about the best way to do that

There are obvious, numerous, continuing issues with Biden as a candidate

But my issue is with the party at this point

Given the results so far, it would appear the strategy to beat Trumpster(s) being presented by the party

...is to target the +45Y.O. demographic...

IMO, that plays to Trumpster(s) strength = old ass racists

Yes, Bern was presenting a platform that targeted the youth vote

So it is very strange to me to see people who's main goal is to defeat Trumpster(s)...break out the party favors at the low youth turnout so far in the D primary

...I believe youth votes are actually down from 16'...

It's all fun and games to poke the bernie bros...but that does not translate to a W in the general

A bigger issue in general, is focusing solely on Trumpster(s)

He, himself, is not the problem, he is a symptom

Biden is not the resolution to systemic racism and oppression.

As has been repeatedly pointed out, the party could have put their power behind any number of other 'moderate' candidates

Which could have given the illusion that the party was actually trying to engage blocks of voters that can defeat the Trumpsters in the general

We are not getting that with Biden

We are getting, get behind me or else.

It's not enough to JUST be against something

You have to actually be FOR something

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT BIDEN IS FOR...but it is very clear where the party stands.

Age again, 78?

Anywho, maybe u should ask the youth why they didn’t turn out to
Vote. Ur attacking middle aged ppl and older folks becuz they came out and voted and attacking pols focusing on them becuz they...came out and voted lol

Weird. Anyway I hope the younger folks do get more engaged, I started voting once I turned 18, and haven’t missed an election down to chief dog catcher since, wish more people did.

Bernie called them out too, going to rallies and rage screaming about important issues won’t bring about change lol voting will

Trumpster(s) base is primarily the +45Y.O. demo

do you think it's a winning strategy to target the same demo?

Yes, racism is less prevalent in the younger demo

IMO, the winning strategy for the general is targeting younger voters

so while you're breaking out the balloons and glitter to party about the low youth turnout in the primary so far...it shouldn't be hard to project how that will hamper the D candidate in the primary

Was that hard to understand?

For me personally, there is still a chance to bring in the Bern voters...with Biden's VP pick

If he goes the HRC route, chooses a moderate/conservative, in an effort to try and win Trumpsters = L

If he chooses a progressive/liberal VP, that may be enough to engage the youth demo

Expand the base...remember...?

Broad coalition...and alladat

Biden's not doing that, according the votes so far.

Y'all have fun in November. At best I skip the Presidential section of the ballot, at worst I forgo voting altogether.

Y'all's little coalition of old folks and whatever Never Trump folks can do this all alone.

Democratic Party is never going to inspire me to vote for that office again.

Get the thief out the temple before we move policies to the left. I hate how some on the left can't seem to realize this. They literally demonized Hillary for a amoral con man to steal an election. I hate living in the Karl Rove era also, but the only way to win in this era is to neutralize the turnout of the other party while simultaneously motivating yours.

but theirs. I mean the Democratic Party's chosen candidate.

by tossing out everyone but the most right-wing candidates (why were Amy and Pete kept around so long?), bending the rules to allow a former Republican billionaire as the emergency backstop, strategically keeping a token "progressive" in the box, then when one gets bolstered by the firewall of the older, Black Southern vote, making a call and getting the decoys out of the way.

damn what these votes say, the confidence that Joe Biden, who offers nothing for anyone under the age of 50, less under the age of 45... is gonna beat an incumbent TRUMP?!!

is 0.

unlike these old Black folks, I'm not giving my goddamn vote for free, I don't give a shit if it IS against Trump.

they have learned nothing in 4 years. I'm done.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

i dont think ive seriously considered not voting for biden. not happy about it but if it gets trump out then whatever.

i was thinking biden would not do well vs trump but now i think he will. turnout is showing 2008 voters are back to support democrats. is it because biden isnt hillary or because they hate trump so much? couldnt say for sure but the support is there.

take some time and revisit this in a few months.

he's not the victim of the powers that be.

he blocked out better, younger candidates by running again

he followed a strategy that makes no sense (whoever you blame for youth failing to turn out, the fact they would was completely predictable)

lost based on that strategy

anything that's been gained could've been achieved with someone else at the wheel, and sooner or later y'all are going to have to ask yourselves when Bernie should've known he was unlikely to win.

assuming you want to appeal to a broad range of voters...the crux of your campaign strategy has to be a lot more than trashing the party you want to win and elevating controversial/polarizing supporters like susan sarandon, michael moore, shaun king, cenk uygur, linda sarsour, joe rogan, etc.

by this logic, Hillary is to blame for more progressive candidates not appearing in 2016.

the only reason Bernie ran again (IMO), is that based on his run in 2016, he had numbers indicating he still was a popular candidate.

meanwhile, we had the likes of Amy Klobuchar running, who isn't even that popular in her home state, and somehow being allowed to stay until the DNC Thanos snapped her and the others out of Biden's way.

I also find it highly dubious that there is anyone else (don't say Warren), younger than Bernie that was actually serious about the policy platform he put ahead.

Everyone else jumped in because they wanted the satisfaction of "beating Trump"

we should be asking, why is it down to Bernie in the first place, when it comes to this kind of platform being the priority. out of 100 members of the Senate, he stands alone.

out of how many members of the House, he would be something like one of 20 (best estimate).

of those, none of them considered themselves to be popular enough to even attempt this at this point.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

cnn exit polls have him winning right now.

i think it will just end up a close bernie win and a virtual delegate tie...because i cant imagine biden winning the state (bernie won over *70%* of the vote there in 2016). but just the fact it is this close is crazy.

He got almost all of OKP on board. This was definitely not Biden central one month ago.

Relative to 2016, do you think there will be more or less Sanders general election leakage (i.e. Bernie voters becoming non voters, trump voters, or 3rd party)?

And Sanders himself too

Acting like "actual" people are not deciding this. The hell is the establishment? The establishment is people voting in SC, VA, MI, etc.

They need to stop talking down on folks like they don't know what they're doing

as far as primary challenges.

not just in this election but all throughout the 2018 primaries too.

that should be a huge red flag for the movement.

i wouldnt be surprised if a lot of the aoc 'pivot' is because of all of the primary challengers in her district this year. they might not have a chance at beating her. but just the fact so many were displeased with a lot of things he she did early on was prolly a wake up call.

The delegate count difference is only about 150 points out of 4051 total.

to the common voter. Nobody seems to be able to do that. Bernie obviously didn't.

i'm fine with socialized medicine cause that would at least alleviate some stress. i make less than 28k with student loans and horrible employer insurance so idgaf if you take it out of my check if the coverage is better cause i'm fucking broke anyway. But clearly i'm a tiny part of the overall electorate.

so you can come up off that snappy ass tone.

She has not held a public campaign event in a primary state since March 3.

He didn't change much between 2016 and 2020. Same rhetoric, same energy, same big crowds.
But worse performance. Why?

People don't despise Biden like they do Clinton for whatever reason.
A lot of Sanders' 2016 was anti-Clinton, not pro Bernie.

2016 was not a precursor to a Sanders political revolution.

its an undercovered dynamic in the race...allowing more people to vote (caucus states turning into primaries, increased early voting, no excuse absentee balloting, etc) made it more difficult for bernie to win.

its the reason that the bernie team fought so hard to keep caucuses in place.

I do not care so much that Sander is losing. He was my 2nd choice over all.

Biden is my 4th choice, but he will be my choice come November. I hope that he makes great changes and polices. At this point though, not trump is more important.

In response to Reply # 0

i think its clear that 2016 was very much about people not liking hillary. biden does not have that problem. i want to see some more data but based on vote totals it looks like bernie is getting the same amount of support as 2016. not bad but not great since hes not growing. so people werent voting for him just because they didnt like hillary, they do like bernie.

bernie has a similar problem as hillary though. he does have a significant portion of the dem electorate that does not like him. if bernie somehow got the nomination it would be reasonable to think that a lot of voters will stay home or vote for trump over bernie. at least enough to again put the election into question.

biden is showing that voters will come out for him. how much of the turn out is due to people hating trump? i dont know but the point is they are choosing biden.

i think a lot of concerns about biden are neutralized by trump being even worse in the same areas, in some cases not even worth comparing. even on the burisma corruption stuff, it is clear trump is just as if not more corrupt than he is claiming biden is. i still have concerns about biden but i am more optimistic that he can win in november.

his speech last night was pretty good too. i was wondering if he would have the same speech issues if he just had a normal conversation. that speech was much closer to normal tone than the typical rally speech. he sounded in control and it did make me feel like his gaffes are more about his speech impediment than him being "senile".

as i have been saying, biden does need to make some appeals to bernies supporters. the media needs to chill with its gloating and change the tone to one that welcomes supporters of bernies.

i do think bernie needs to focus more on his ideas and showing the support for them instead of attacking biden on sunday. at this point you need to make sure you have a say in a biden administration. 30-35% is still a big chunk of your party.

Like I said then, he's a fine speaker and can get people excited provided he has a script. Don't expound and make up stuff, don't go off the cuff and end up mixing up your facts.

Trump lies but he does so convincingly.

Get down to nitty gritty of where they differ on policy. Sanders will be one-note and forceful, Biden may have some mix-ups but will fall back on everything as it was prior to Trump.

he wasnt screaming. he was speaking at a normal volume and was very much subdued but not in a way that he looked tired. just calm and in control. most of the debates he has had an aggressive and loud approach. even in most of the speeches he has been the same. last night he was just chill.

if he can use this tactic effectively if Bernie gets loud and abrasive in the debate, then utilize the same strategy in the general.

His lies aren't convincing anybody with a brain, but he just spins shit effectively, without qualms, without reservation, just spouts off numbers and facts.

Biden will be in a middle of a point and then trail off or just change tack.

In response to Reply # 176

I think an instrumental view of the word "convincing" is a smart play here. You and I may not be convinced, but the Republican Party isn't entirely constituted of guys who own jet ski dealerships and spent their tax cut cash on sex tourism. Some of them are ASPIRING jet ski dealership owners who think Trump is right about everything.

...and the left couldn't. It says something about somebody that the right found the turn to fascism so simple while we are struggling with some pretty modest reforms aimed simply at taking care of each other. But I appreciate your use of NEED at a time when voting Dem comes freighted with imagining yourself as an unpaid pundit.

They figured out a way to win while appealing to NEED as assertion (though it's an assertion of spite, and that may matter) while we are responding to NEED as negation, in this case being rid of Trump.

Dems used some of the Republican's playbook when Clinton had his Sistah Soulja moment.

Nah they did what they always do from Lee Atwater to Jesse Helms, appeal to racist throw in gerrymandering and voter suppression.

In response to Reply # 184

are both assertions and negations.

I wouldn't classify American fascism as a movement absolutely based in assertion of a highly regressive American Identity. I think a lot of the 'red-pilling' going on of a new generation by an older guard of Establishment racism is based on negation of several key things that have been efforts at creating a more pluralistic, egalitarian, diverse, free and progressive society - political correctness, 'snowflake' culture, identity politics, as well as a rekindling of some atavistic bogeymen, like the Jewish Threat, mainstream media, 'liberalism', atheism, communism.

Also as far as mainstream liberal (I'm going to say mainstream Dem voters) I think some of the negation they are engaging would do better in extending past Trump and into the very real societal ills that misguide the meaner tendencies of the right and weaken the coalition of the left (income disparity and all of the ways it comes about, mainly).

In response to Reply # 0

(and btw, even compared to warren endorsements)
while we can talk 'establishment' all day
i really think it should be a moment of reflection
politics and political influence matters a great deal
and not to have that in the first place, despite xx years in politics.... well
it speaks a lot about the candidate, i think
and perhaps also suggests the challenges in gaining traction among the majority voting public
(perhaps not enough outreach to those not already *in* the movement as so many have pointed out)
we can't build a progressive movement from the top down without building one from the bottom up
to do neither is foolhardy
i hope those of us that want to see significant changes in social welfare programs in future
will hopefully take this and take a long-term strategic approach to actually build a movement
i think about what happened after 2016 - for example groups like indivisible
that strategized, organized, developed a play book, etc
that's what's needed now
its time to get over the petty and start on the what now.
its also time to get over specific individuals, and look at the wider electorate
if the policies are popular, then how do we get that message across
and not only that, get people to vote for these policies

at least i hope that becomes the outlook moving forward
and none of this will happen if we do not remove batshit crazy from the whitehouse

onwards!

.
http://perspectivesudans.blogspot.com/
i myself would never want to be god,or even like god.Because god got all these human beings on this planet and i most certainly would not want to be responsible for them, or even have the disgrace that i made them.

Anyone who wanted to be President 4 years ago- Booker, Warren, Biden, Patrick- has to be kicking themselves.

Especially Biden. He could have fucking moonwalked to the nom 4 years ago.

Ego, blind loyalty, and a dash of incompetence handed us Donald Trump.

I've seen some Clinton die-hards partying on the Bernie losses this go around...they still don't get it.

Their candidate was the worst possible person to run at the time.

Lizzie (who I thought was the strongest candidate and would have happily voted for) stays in the race with less chances than Bernie to win, "good for her".

Bernie stays in the race to finally have a 1 on 1 debate "narcissistic asshole!". Y'all are doing the same thing to Bernie you criticized Bernie Bros of doing to Warren.

On another note, it's pretty lame seeing y'all attack me for trying to participate on this board. I generally like following along with the discussions here but usually don't post because it seems like an exclusive club where if you're not one of ~20 users who regularly post then you're either ignored or called an alias. As I said, I've got 16 years posting sporadically on OKP. Sorry if my post count doesn't reach the acceptable standards but the discrediting and paranoia is laughable, like Russia is sending bots to infiltrate a message board with 50 active posters from a 1990's hip hop band. I'll go back to lurking when I want to, but this is a big part of the reason the board can't attract new members and went from an active and fun forum to a slow and combative one.

The Bernie cult is real, man. The NOTMEUS was like some Trumpian level double speak.

It really is about him for them. And apparently him too, because this does nothing. Get your concessions behind the scenes.

I can't believe more lefties can't see that had Bernie sat this out and put his weight behind a better/younger politician, progressives would have made a lot more noise. A lot more.

im sure people will see some valiant cause to him staying in the race...but it really is just an exercise in vanity.

all of his concerns can be addressed outside of a debate and making the party/candidates spend more money/resources in states that wont be anywhere close to competitive.

Warren staying in to actually see how her Nevada debate may have helped? HELPING BIDEN!!! TRAITOR!! SNAKE!!

Bernie staying in with zero chance? Totally fine. Pushing the party left. Keeping Biden sharp.

LOL Its like we are living out a parody at this point.

I think you said up above, I'm sure he could get the same concessions behind the scenes.

In fact, I'd guess he could get more playing the game. Its this kind of refusal to realize sometimes you have to play the (yes shitty) game to get things you want is why the Bernie crowd loses.

to harm Biden and help Trump. It's as simple as that. Do you think that is what's happening in Bernie's mind right now? He just wants to help prepare Biden for the general?

Primary fight had translated into high turn out and energy in 2008

I know we bemoan Bernie staying in so long and his lukewarm endorsement of clinton in 16, but I think more and more evidence just shows that HRC was uniquely not liked, she likely would have lost the general even if Bernie had conceded earlier and robustly supported her

It’s a proven fact that most people who vote in the primary vote in the general (except for that portion of BBs, that are just a mess anyway),

Bernie can serve as a foil, someone for Biden to beat, if he stays in. Like I’m legit way less interested in voting in my primary now that I know this thing is a wrap, some of my homies in Florida were saying the same.

Don’t get me wrong, Bernie has NO chance of winning the nom now, but a lil bit more comp( even if it’s a clear winner already) may be good for enthusiasm

Long past due, this should have happened two weeks ago. Crazy how Biden went from being in like 4th place to being crowned after South Carolina. Now he finally gets a chance to define his platform and vision for the country versus Bernie's. If he's the best candidate this will be his chance to prove it without asking for the moderators to cut him off or sharing the spotlight with 6 other people.

and lmao at the Biden Bros hating on Bernie for wanting to stay in for his first chance at a 1v1 debate. Y'all were lauding and celebrating Lizzie for staying in when she had no chance, what's changed?

Now he finally gets a chance to prove to America that he's in the right state of mind and sharp enough to take on Trump. This will be the most on air time he's gotten since the DNC crowned him after Super Tuesday and his first opportunity to define himself as the frontrunner. It's time for him to put the nail in Bernie's coffin and set himself up for the general election. If he can eloquently explain his plan for beating Trump and returning America to normalcy, he's got it.

Weird how Biden Boomers seem more worried about this than they should be, as apparently all accusations of his senility are just MAGA and BB propaganda.

now he spends his time having to act like an enthusiastic progressive surrogate for bernie and getting his typical bernie campaign talking points politely shut down by hosts using the obvious facts of the election.

He should really barely engage him, but stick to his cool and measured tone, stick to his talking points and unity message.

He carries the first wave of new votes from King County (Seattle area) 58 to 37. Sanders led the initial King County count.

Biden's wide lead in the second wave of ballots from King County is consistent with eventually winning by a fairly comfortable margin

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/12/joe-biden-names-new-campaign-manager-127247

Joe Biden appointed a new campaign manager to lead his campaign, capping more than a month of rumors — denied by senior advisers — that a leadership change was in the offing.

Biden’s decision to replace Greg Schultz with Jen O’Malley Dillon comes at an unorthodox time — after a string of wins across the country resuscitated his wounded campaign and made him a frontrunner again.

Networking aid for students in need because of coronavirus school closings. This is one of the early things that drew me to socialism. It's not unique to the ideology, but against the type of a bunch of beard-stroking academics, all the socialists I know are people who bend over backwards to help people who are suffering from the substantial seams in our institutions. Calling myself one is largely aspirational. I believe in the ideology, but I want - constantly - to be more like the people who throw themselves into stuff like this.

@jeffreysorensen
Right now in Michigan, Bernie organizers are getting 100s of people signed up to provide housing, transport, food, etc to any student in need following #Covid_19 school closings. Hours after a disappointing MI election, we’re doing mutual aid work. #NotMeUs is more than a slogan.

Even a Covid-19 national emergency can't stop the Go Joe party up in here.

But I said might as well get it out the way on my off day, since it’s pretty low stakes now

I usually like the excitement of Election Day. And in the general I’ll be voting on Election Day. But yeah. It was damn near all of them still on the ballot, Michael Bennett, yang lol. A lot should have dropped out way before the filing deadlines.

I almost voted tulsi just becuz but I just couldn’t do it lol.

except for primaries with so many options. now that its down to two and present? might as well.

in my case i voted early for liz and nothing would had made me change my mind but if i was someone who voted early for pete before he dropped out? thats enough to make me consider waiting next primary.

definitely planning to vote early in the general.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Refused To Campaign More For Bernie Sanders

The popular New York lawmaker’s absence was notable as Sanders lost his Democratic front-runner status to Joe Biden.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) turned down repeated requests from Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign to appear at events promoting the Vermont senator’s candidacy in recent weeks, according to three people familiar with the discussions.

After the Iowa caucuses, Sanders campaign manager Faiz Shakir asked Ocasio-Cortez to stump for Sanders in New Hampshire, according to the sources. The campaign prepared a model schedule to highlight the kind of popular support she would expect if she attended, one of the people familiar with the talks said.

Ocasio-Cortez resisted the entreaties until a few days before the primary on Feb. 12. She ultimately spoke the day before the election at a Sanders rally in Durham, New Hampshire, where the rock band The Strokes performed.

“It was like pulling teeth to get her to New Hampshire,” said a second person who knew about the discussions.

The absence of the popular progressive lawmaker on the trail in the weeks that followed was even more notable. In nearly a month that passed from Feb. 11 until March 8 ― two days before the Michigan primary ― Ocasio-Cortez declined multiple invitations from Sanders’ campaign to speak on his behalf in Nevada, South Carolina and the 14 states that voted on Super Tuesday, the three people told HuffPost.

During that period, Sanders rose and fell quickly, going from the uncontested front-runner after Nevada’s Feb. 22 contest to a heavy underdog after a blowout in South Carolina on Feb. 29 and Super Tuesday routs on March 3.

As an embattled Sanders prepared to mount an unsuccessful stand against former Vice President Joe Biden in Michigan on Tuesday, the campaign again turned to Ocasio-Cortez for help.

She agreed at the last minute to deliver a speech on Sunday at a get-out-the-vote rally on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Sanders’ campaign issued a revised media advisory about the rally the night before, informing the press that Ocasio-Cortez would be present.

Neither the Sanders campaign nor the campaign office of Ocasio-Cortez denied that she had turned down requests for additional appearances.

Instead, in a statement to HuffPost on Thursday, Shakir praised Ocasio-Cortez for her work on Sanders’ behalf, singling out her mid-October endorsement of Sanders after his heart attack. (Sanders’ allies credit the endorsement for helping revive his campaign, while backers of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who also courted Ocasio-Cortez’s blessing, lament the deflating effect it had on her fortunes.)

“Senator Sanders and our campaign will never forget that in one of the most difficult moments for us, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez gave us a boost with her strong endorsement,” Shakir said. “And she has remained a steady and consistent ally, supporter, surrogate and adviser to the senator ever since.”

In a follow-up exchange on Friday, the Sanders campaign affirmed that Ocasio-Cortez has been one of the most frequent campaign-trail surrogates for Sanders.

Ocasio-Cortez’s apparent decision to avoid stumping for Sanders stands out precisely because of her intense work on his behalf in the fall and early winter. Ocasio-Cortez spoke for Sanders at 15 major rallies, beginning with a late-October appearance in Queens that drew an estimated 26,000 people. She spoke at a number of smaller Sanders events as well.

Ocasio-Cortez’s help proved especially critical in January, when Sanders was stuck in Washington participating in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Over the weekend of Jan. 24 to Jan. 26, Ocasio-Cortez headlined seven rallies for Sanders in Iowa and spoke at a canvass kickoff for his campaign.

Although the Sanders team would not say whether Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to avoid the trail reflected any dispute, Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for Ocasio-Cortez, denied that the congresswoman’s itinerary reflected tensions with the campaign.

“The plan was always that she would slow down her surrogate work in February, after Iowa, to focus on her re-elect and congressional duties,” Hitt said.

But the first source said a disagreement over Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks in Iowa seemed to cool her on helping with the campaign.

At a rally in Ames on Jan. 25, Ocasio-Cortez delivered a speech in which she failed to mention Sanders’ name ― an omission that Fox News noticed and highlighted. She also encouraged those in attendance to tip off people about the presence of immigration enforcement authorities in their communities to help undocumented immigrants evade detention.

As Vanity Fair first reported in February, Shakir apparently communicated to Ocasio-Cortez his dissatisfaction over her remarks about alerting the presence of immigration authorities. While Sanders has sought to scrap and restructure the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in its current form, his campaign has been trying to avoid the impression that it was encouraging noncooperation with federal law as it exists, according to one source. (The Sanders campaign denied on Friday that Shakir ever spoke to Ocasio-Cortez about her immigration remarks.)

After that, Ocasio-Cortez ― already annoyed with the campaign’s Jan. 23 decision to publicize the endorsement of controversial podcast host Joe Rogan ― grew less interested in helping Sanders’ campaign, according to the source. After her last event in Iowa on Jan. 26, she did not return to the trail for Sanders until 16 days later, at the New Hampshire rally featuring The Strokes.

It’s unclear whether Ocasio-Cortez’s low profile affected Sanders’ performance in the primaries. Sanders continues to struggle with older voters, among whom Ocasio-Cortez has less of a following. Her campaign trail appearance in Michigan did not prevent Sanders’ double-digit loss to Biden there.

Ocasio-Cortez’s presence was likely more missed in Texas’ 28th Congressional District, where progressive attorney Jessica Cisneros fell just 3.6 percentage points shy of unseating conservative Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar. Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Cisneros in late October but made no trips to South Texas on her behalf ahead of the close race. (Sanders, who endorsed Cisneros in late January, did not make the journey, either.)

The relatively infrequent appearance of an important Sanders surrogate shows the contrasting levels of discipline between the progressive and moderate wings of the Democratic Party.

While Ocasio-Cortez was staying off the campaign trail in the aftermath of Biden’s victory in South Carolina, three moderate ex-presidential contenders ― Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Beto O’Rourke ― endorsed Biden, ensuring him wall-to-wall national media coverage that provided momentum going into Super Tuesday.
