Being a 40-year-old black man from the South, the first thing that immediately struck me was there was this white crowd protesting this mostly black and brown production.
Me and an older woman of color just looked on from afar with arched eyebrows.
So I go to read the story of what they are protesting:
Long story short. Alexandra Waterbury is leading a protest against Amar Ramasar because Alexandra's boyfriend at the time shared nude photos of Alexandra to Amar. That's the story in a nutshell. Another layer is that Amar did seem to participate in a group chat where guys were sharing pictures of nude girls they had been with but it seems the only file sharing that Amar actually did was share a picture of his girlfriend to Alexandra's boyfriend but Amar's girlfriend has come out to publically support Amar and says she is not a victim and she has forgiven Amar.
As far as Amar's girlfriend forgiving him, Alexandra says the following:
“Whether or not she says it’s okay now, what he did was illegal. The things that Chase did to me, Amar did to her,” she said. “She’s going to deal with it in whatever way she needs to deal with it, and that’s obviously trying to avoid the truth of the situation.”
I don't doubt that there is abuse, sexism and harrasment within the world of Ballet caused by Powerful Men like Alexandra argues but this blond ivy league kid leading a crowd of white protestors going after the Puerto Rican kid from the Bronx and the black and brown production just doesn't seem right.
I just don't see these same protestors being there if it were a black woman accusing some nice looking white boy of the same thing. No way, no how.

Just because she is hurt and embarrassed, she doesn't get to decide how other people feel, nor define their reality. Total self-centeredness.
