Folks were always wild on sixth, now they’re starting to carry
Homelessness is a big problem, but that’s true no matter where you are
But other than that ... meh.
Austin downtown isn’t like most downtowns. It’s getting a skyline over the last few years, but traditionally it’s been government/college town
So it’s closer to your Columbia, SC and the feel of that than it is your downtown Atlanta and Georgia Tech.

Hope that helps.

Blight or something.
It’s a tough call. The shelter and the police department are like a block or two from each other.
Folks will loiter near a shelter until let in time anywhere.
There’s like four on the same block.
Greyhound station is a mile away.
So there’s a whole infrastructure and incentive structure of transient activity in a small area.

There may be a couple of not so great areas but by and large it's really populated and safe.

I've been visiting for 17 years and they've been so-called expanding for the same amount of time if not longer.

My inLaws live in South Austin, getting down town takes a lot of patience. I live in Atlanta and dread Austin traffic

It’s population boom. Disappointing they didn’t invest in transit expansion. Hopefully they will in the future, even if it’s more buses like Curitiba
