I'm not happy with my life.

I feel like I've been pretending and barely holding on.

I have no passion for anything and all I want is to waste my life watching TV.

I resent myself for just being so lazy. I wallow in my own misery and spiral into self destructive behavior. Nothing dangerous like drugs or alcohol. But destructive in letting my job responsibilities slid, not saving money and spending on my CC. Not trying hard enough at home with the wife.

I'm not happy. I know I'm not happy and I know its within my power to change it. I don't know how and some part of me knows how and yet I don't. I hate it.

Good luck. Therapy and some great company likely saved my life about a decade ago.
I’d recommend it more than I’d recommend a lot of other things.

the last year, I did very little to improve my life. I'm in a decent place, but really didn't do anything to get better.

so I'm planning on changing that this year. got a test scheduled for next month. that will help me determine what will happen afterwards.

positive vibes to you. you have it in you. just gotta do something with it.

I don't have it and I have no idea what I am passionate about.

Its seems like not everyone does, its about surviving the day to day, get you paycheck and enjoy.

Thats what I've been doing, getting by with the bare minimum. Its awful. I don't know what I want to do.

...what YOU want. What makes YOU happy. Who YOU are.

There is nothing you can't do if you put your heart and head into it and keep at it.

Seems corny, but it really has to come from within.

I was in a similar position years ago when I looked up one day and realized I didn't like who I was becoming. Tore it all down and decided to be the person that I always wanted to be, no matter what.

to think about something you would do for FREE...and that's the path to finding your passion.

Talk to someone - if you're employed, check to see if your job offers 'employee assistance program' (EAP); you should be able to speak to someone and not lose work days.

I hope for you that this is just a phase. I think most of last year I felt like $hit. I have a decent job, I got a cool family etc...but I just felt empty and unfulfilled and I started getting a little self-destructive. It happens.

You aren't alone, don't ever forget that. It's not just you, but it feels like it. But it's not.

Peace.

Or are you being affected by others (family, friends, associates) social media clout life on display?

Therapy is the way to go. And if you're a male, find a male therapist to talk to.

just curious. one of my best friends is a therapist and i asked him whether the thought race/gender/orientation (he's gay & black) mattered in a therapist and he said for him both seeking and giving therapy he didn't feel like it was a big thing.

anyway i recently changed the sex of my therapist to male, particularly black males (unicorns in the mental health industry) to see if I would get the same/different/no results perspective as i did with a female therapist. so far, what i notice w/ the one I'm with is he points out the -isms from society to make me feel not good enough, same shit i heard from the women. yet he pointed out something that left me numb in one session, he said-it can literally drive one crazy when your mental health care is ran by the people who are the reason you need mental health care.

Cars paid off.. yay, engine lights on... nay!!! I haaaate dealerships so I’m trying to find a place but I don’t want to spend money running to different places and being inconvenienced.

Garbage disposal stopped working. I kinda remember putting something in there and thinking it might be a bad idea but it wasn’t a lot. I thought about dude who said he put uncooked rice in his disposal.

My confidence is high as hell right now. I have to start budgeting for real tho, I got this raise and been on some “get whatever you liiike”

Linking up with my brotha from anotha tonight. Wish I had more friends like this in Charlotte. He was here but moved away.

Real talk, if you're self-reflective enough to even wonder about yourself in the first place then you're most-likely not.

I've got this, and really think about it:

Most of the noises that drive people crazy are COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.

No reason to chew food with an open mouth, talk w/ food in said mouth, whistle, tap one's foot at the office, slurp soup, banging on their keyboard, clicking pens, popping gum, etc.

Not one of those things is necessary to what they are doing.

It's always slobs trying to validate their slovenly behaviour by making it seem like YOU are the crazy one for not wanting to hear someone crunching chips while you are trying to read.

None of what I listed above is necessary.

Empty-headed making noises for no reason type people. Always wonder if their internal world sucks, so they gotta live externally all the time.

id make it my personal mission to show him what its like to be miserable

maybe even solicit help from others on the team since it sounds like he's a jerk in general

bad enough you gotta spend 40+ hours a week there to feed your families - but for someone to KNOWINGLY be a butthole?

mess around and get the Private Pyle treatment

I think it's about the LEVEL to which it bothers you

it's one thing to be annoyed

it's another for it to be excruciating to hear (like actually painful)

example: my wife chews ice

i have to either leave the room (and even then do something additional to block the sound) or go get divorce papers

...telling me later in life how they respected how I stuck to my guns and did my own thing, no matter how much shit I caught.

I really appreciate the people that have expressed this to me, because it completely changed my perception of difficult experiences in the past. Didn't realize at the time that those were character-building experiences... only wisdom from getting old has shown me that.

Ironically, being weird really helped give me the confidence to think and do for myself. Not having to meet anyone's expectations but my own.
