when i hear it i think the thread stops at fast, but reading it i see that the last two lines help explain it. is he just saying he wants to stare at her or is putting someone in a fish bowl some slang im not aware of?

He's just saying he's invading her privacy/staring at her a little too long. He even kinda explains it himself in the very next line re: staring at a science project.
