"Poll question: Do you think Trump has more or less black support than in 2016?"

Do you think he can go from 8% in 2016 to 12% support in the 2020 election?
This article poses Trump's strategy for "the blacks" as crucial towards his re-election.
But as the article suggests, the strategy is probably more about suppressing black voters rather than turning them out.

"Florida is a case study in how a small shift in the black vote can make a big difference in a key battleground. According to exit polls, black voters made up 14 percent of the electorate in Florida in 2016, and Trump won just 8 percent of them. Had Trump received 12 percent, it would have netted him more than 50,000 votes, roughly half of his total margin of victory in the state."

Dennard, who worked in the George W. Bush White House and at the Republican National Committee, said Trump is courting African Americans far more aggressively than previous Republican presidential candidates did.

and by average I mean older god fearing Black voters not the ones on twitter who do t even vote half the time

anyone who thinks this election will be fair and untampered with is delusional.

McConnell refuses to allow the Senate to vote on ANYTHING related to protecting the election.

from what i've observed, a lot of people (not just blacks) are upset about it. i live in
sanctuary county and it is directly affecting schools, taxes, employment, traffic,
crime, law enforcement, and citizen rights (or lack thereof). nobody is going to
want their taxes continuously hiked and money taken away in order to support it.

there is a distinction between people crossing legally and not. there are people who do believe in legal immigration. others do not.

i do think there needs to be reform to allow more people to come here legally. to make it easier and quicker to do so. many people are opposed to that.

some people do not care if people come here illegally.

i live in a border city. our wages are low. building a wall is not going to help that. business do open up shop across the border if they are going for low wages. that wont be changed by an anti-immigrant (legal or not) president.

illegal immigration is simply not one of our biggest problems or even the source of our problems.

but if he happens to win a second term, it wouldn't surprise me to see black folks publicly kiss his ring if only to get something out of Trump and to use him in some opportunistic sense.

Somewhat similar to how a ton of the Republicans on Capital Hill that once joked and mocked Trump before he won the Republican nomination are now prominent bootlickers.

Just to be clear, I personally don't agree with that tactic because the man is a living breathing cesspool of a human being, but I wouldn't be shocked to see this go down.

Trump is branded as being really good for the working man and really bad for the man dependent on social services. I think regla schmegla black men are the strongest supporters. Black men do not really benefit from Fed social services other than Obamacare/medicare/disability.

Prisoners- There is so much being done on letting prisoners out and getting them jobs, than ever before in history. These are mainly black men.

Veterans have gotten crazy pay raises, first dibs on Fed and biz jobs and billions of dollars in investments, many vets are black men.

Opportunity Zones exist in largely low income and poor black neighborhoods with big businesses offering low skilled jobs whose recipients are mostly black men.

The STEM shift is impacting every sector of our economy and many black people were not a part of the rise happening during the Obama years. Companies are almost now obligated to interview black from HBCU programs.

Trump represents an ideology that you can do it without government services.

1) the "using a 501c3 to give away money to niggas" scheme
2) the "run an ad about a woman he may have helped to get out of a lengthy prison sentence"

I see the vision.
Target black folks long disaffected (and often ignored) by the neoliberal politics of the Democratic party. Throw 'em some money. Show that you might let some folks out of prison.

he'll pick a few more off than before on some 2004 George W. Bush... but most black voters (correctly) see him as a racist terror.

not a bad deal to capture the "hold your own nuts" vote. full circle with the types who don't fuck with Bernie because "he don't talk about racism right"

might be a good idea of how the GOP could further bring Black folks over to their side -- if they're willing to concede the white supremacist culture war and go full bore on their REAL agenda like Larry Hogan in MD.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

ive never met a black trump supporter in person.

ive never even met someone that approved of the job he is doing.

the most ive seen is someone saying trump isnt that bad...compared to generally racist figures/forces in america. like killer mike saying we survived reagan so we can survive trump (nevermind the fact that a lot of us didnt survive reagan).

but i see some black trump supporters a lil too frequently on twitter/youtube/etc (who knows if theyre real/organic/etc).

in a recent wapo/ipsos poll...65% of black people say his presidency has been a bad time to be black in the country...80% say he is flat out racist...90% disapprove of his job as president.

im just gonna choose to believe thats reality cuz its a lot more comforting than the alternative lol.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/01/africa/nigeria-travel-ban-intl/index.html

Nigerians reacted with shock and anger after Africa's most populous country and largest economy was added to the Trump administration's controversial visa and travel bans list.

The ban, which is one of the US President's signature policies, now includes five other countries as well as Nigeria which have been blocked from obtaining certain types of visas.

Immigrants from Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria will be banned from the US. Tanzanian and Sudan citizens will no longer be able to apply for the "diversity visas," known as the green card lottery, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Both sides seem scurred of scaring off racists. That stands for the flaming obvious good boys type as well as the passive/casual racists. So you just end up hearing a bunch of vague ‘let’s make it fair for everyone’ type points.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/30/robert-johnson-i-will-take-the-devil-i-know-dont-know-what-biden-will-do.html

Black Entertainment Television founder Robert Johnson told CNBC on Wednesday he’s viewing the election between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden through the lens of being a businessman.

“Where I come out as a businessman, I will take the devil I know over the devil I don’t know anytime of the week,” Johnson said on “Squawk Box.”

Johnson, when pressed, refused to outright endorse Trump, instead saying as a longtime corporate executive he knows how the president will react to important issues of the day such as coronavirus and he does not have a handle on Biden would run the country.

“I know what President Trump has done and what he’s said he will do. I don’t know what Vice President Biden has said he will do other than masks, listen to the scientists,” the 74-year-old Johnson said. He suggested the coronavirus response should weigh the tradeoffs of “pandemic safety” versus “economy growth.”

By contrast, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has previously said “the path of the U.S. economic recovery will depend in large part on our success in containing the virus.”

Johnson has been a big Democratic donor over the years but also has spoken positively about Trump’s economic policy. In 2016, he said he declined a position in Trump’s Cabinet, saying it was not due to politics but because he could not deal with government red tape.

Johnson said the American people were the big losers in Tuesday night’s first presidential debate, saying the free-for-all was a waste of 90 minutes. He repeatedly suggested he didn’t learn enough in the debate about Biden, the two-term vice president under former President Barack Obama.

“What I had hoped he would do would be a reasonable, relaxed balance, if you will, in a debate where he would talk about specific policies, particularly as it impacts Black Americans,” said Johnson, founder and chairman of investment firm The RLJ Cos.

From a business standpoint only, not from a racial injustice standpoint, Johnson reiterated that it’s better for corporate executives to know what they’re getting in a president rather trying to guess.

“I would rather know who I’m going to deal with in the White House. I’m going to know what regulatory decisions they’re going to make. What fiscal policy decisions, what monetary policies they’re going to make than to be taking a chance, particularly when you have the turbulence of a pandemic,” said Johnson, who in the past has been complimentary of Trump’s business-centric policies.

Asked specifically Wednesday about Trump not explicitly condemning White supremacist groups during the debate, Johnson pivoted his answer to the coronavirus pandemic and said he’s not confident either Biden or Trump could have taken different steps to significantly reduce the Covid-19 death total.

The U.S. has the most coronavirus deaths of any country in the world, with 206,005, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. That’s more than 20% of the global total, which exceeded 1 million this week.

Entrepreneur John Hope Bryant, who also founded a financial literacy nonprofit, said later on “Squawk Box” that he was disappointed with the state of the presidential race. “I don’t know where we go from here. This is not about picking ‘a devil,’” he said, referring to Johnson’s comments.

“Americans want vision and a plan and we lost out last night,” Bryant added. “It’s not about picking a devil. The fact that we got to this base of this conversation, where we’re talking about the devil we know or whatever that is, is troubling, concerning and frustrating.”

To be clear, I'm not a Trump supporter, but I'm not surprised that someone that's fairly well off like Bob Johnson is would support Trump on a strictly fiscal aspect.

Fuck all those people who can't afford healthcare. Fuck everyone who ain't got money to be insulated from all of the ugliness of our society.

Yes. A lot of this is fiscal moreso than moral. And people’s obsession with the idea of money and the assumption that DT will get/keep more people’s money right = folks are willing to ignore ridiculous transgressions otherwise.

Covid is making it crystal clear that he can’t do anything other than brag about money and act like rich people being rich/richer means everything else is fine, gonna be fine, or doesn’t matter to him cuz he’s rich. And folks who aren’t rich or never will be rich are far too down with it for my taste. I don’t understand broke/average folks being down with it.
