in my "2010 decade" post that they "couldn't" keep track of what they listened to for the years of the 2010's....hummm...

I guess some of y'all "can" for this post, probably, that is, remember what you "liked" in a given year in the 2010's.

my top songs of the decade (i guess that i played the MOST?) are 3 Pantera songs, a Black Breath song (black metal band), and Offshore by Swae Lee & Young Thug. LOL.

i forgot how much i listened to Shura's album during the summer.

i was not surprised to see SAINt JHN and Guapdad there as those are probably my two favorite albums of 2019.

Chris Brown is there most for four songs from his most recent project.

Obviously Little Brother put out a great album.

How do Google Play and Amazon Music differ from Spotify, aside from the wrap-up playlist feature?

I don't use these services because I'm old schoo. I mostly still purchase digital music, and, er, download my music. Or I'm digitizing CDs...I buy about half of my digital music from Google Play or Bandcamp, but again, that's me downloading .zip files and adding them to my iTunes library. I don't use the Google Play app.

What didn't you like about Spotify?

I have an account and the app downloaded on my phone but I only use it when I hear a song I like in Starbucks and save it via the store's app. The app syncs with Spotify.

was geeked when they came out with play music.

the main attraction is being able to listen to your own files, upload them to the cloud and stream music. i pay for it with google rewards credits so its basically free.

ive never tried spotify premium. the sound quality on the free was lacking to me and not being able to listen to an album in order instantly turned me away from it.

in general i dont like to listen to automated or curated playlists. i want to listen to my own. my understanding is that spotify is great with those playlists which isnt a feature im looking for....kind of.

i wish google play did let you create a playlist based on...well anything lol like windows media player would.
i would love to be able to automatically create a 2019 playlist of all the songs i gave a thumbs up to.

i definitely dont love google play music but for "free" i dont have enough incentive to pay for a different app. i get apple music for free with verizon but i havent bothered trying it.

2020 looking like the year of the switch, though. Struggling to maintain ratio at my new torrent spot, mixtapes seem like they've mostly been added to the service (other than the truly wild/cool/classic format ones like Dedication 2 / Bar Exam 2 / all that shit) and my iMac is too old to run iTunes for more than a few days without it crashing under the weight of nearly 500,000 songs in its library.

Anyway...

I tried to see if this'd pull anything but between being a free user and using my Spotify account maybe three or four times a year, it doesn't seem like it can figure anything out for me.

Artists:
1. Lupe Fiasco
2. A Tribe Called Quest
3. The Roots
4. Nas
5. Angus & Julia Stone

Songs:
1. Rapsody - Gonna Miss You
2. Dope Lemon - Salt & Pepper
3. Husky - Hunter
4. Lana Del Rey - Doin' Time
5. Anderson .Paak - Saviers Road
(only Salt & Pepper and Doin' Time are 2019 tracks)

Genres:
1. Hip Hop
2. Rock
3. Alternative hip hop
4. Pop rock
5. Folk-pop

My top 5 artists are basically my top 5 artists in mostly any year. If no new albums were to drop this year my top 5 would be very similar. Lupe dominated the year as it took me a bit to finally get into DROGAS WAVE, easily my most listened to album of the year, followed by KRIT's release from last year, 4Eva is a Mighty Long Time (I'm surprised KRIT didn't crack my top 5 to be honest)

based on play counts and limited to music from 2019.

top 10 songs
Teen Angel (Choosey)
Black Beans (Choosey)
Sangria (Choosey)
The Sound of a Memory (PUTS)
Money in the Way (2 Chainz)
Familia (Choosey)
The Effects of Climate Change on Densely Populated Areas (PUTS)
Chicago Diner (Kota)
Lifes Good (Guilty & MED)
What Can We Do? (.Paak)

was considering counting up how many plays an artist got but i dont have patience for that

Choosey, Kota and Your Old Droog ran 2019 for me. Blu and Damu have been racking it up in the second half. YBN Cordae, Rapsody and Lucky Daye are also up there.

I like the song but don't think i heard it more than once or twice this year. I didn't recognize it by name, i had to hear it to remember it. Strange...

everything else checks out tho. Lupe Fiasco was my top artist. i spent a lot of time with Drogas Wave, Tetsuo and Youth and Drogas Light

fantastic open beat by pi'erre bourne. really cool patterns and flows from thug. easily my favorite song from 2019 to rap along with in the car. gunna's verse can go fuck itself though

I must say, in retrospect...these cats blessed me with some PHENOMENAL gains on my pace...They are part of my training playlist along with others...but when I want to get in the zone, they were my go to!

I was averaging 8:45min/mile at the beginning of the year....
My last race was a Thanksgiving 5K and I set a PR of 7:39min/mile.
I'm now averaging around 8:05min/mile for non race runs....
Hopefully I can get some good tunes in rotation for training for my 10miler in April....

I was Genre-fluid. I refused to let one sound define me...according to Spotify lol...
Hip Hop was still my top genre though.

Edit - Surprised at some of these - I feel like I listened to more "Pop Rap" and Spotify said it was my favorite genre, but no "Pop Rap" songs or artists in my top. Also it only recorded about 25k minutes listening and I've been at like 50k the past two years so maybe it missed some.
