THE WORST SHIT EVER is looking at your spotify playlists and seeing a bunch of greyed out songs.

they were there yesterday, and now they're gone.

Like...gotdamn, we know these songs exist in reality, its just crazy that some of the biggest artists are not on platforms.

the chronic ain't even on spotify.

you still would need to have accounts for each service you wish to use but the app could pull in the song from whichever platform had it and play it.

is there a law or or technical reason this isnt possible? does the app exists? if not, can someone make it and cut me a check? lol

stream to the artists. So if you had an app combining the services how would it be known whether to pay that artist based on Spotify's rate, or Apple Music's, etc.

That's all separate from the fact that you'd have to have the services all agree to allow their music to be streamed from a service separate from their own, essentially giving a competitor their content. Not impossible since I guess streaming cable services are somewhat like a TV version of this, but still unlikely since we're talking about streaming music services giving a slice of the pie to a new competitor streaming music service.

potentially you still download and install all the apps. the music player would basically feed from each service for each play. you maybe select with service you prefer for songs that are available on multiple providers.

i definitely dont know how the programming would work or if it is possible to do but i think it could be.

In response to Reply # 18

does something similar on iOS and CarPlay. You can ask Siri to play a song/album/artist from streaming services separate from Apple Music. I know it works with Spotify and Google Play because I have those. The default is of course Apple Music if you don't specify what service you want.

So really this wouldn't be a competing streaming service but a digital assistant geared towards music streaming, that could search the apps you own and then play from whatever finds it or your default preferred app.

I only use it at work, and the UI is super cumbersome for doing so on an iPad, but it can be done.

Of course, you have to have the premium accounts (I think...) for it to work as you want it to, but it can be done. I wind up having to do it for weddings a lot.

I legit have all his (good or decent) music in physical form and/or on my old iPod classic. But having the convenience of his stuff on Spotify makes all the difference. I've been listening to little else.

So yea he'll be high on my year end list if they update it Jan 1st prolly.

I'd argue that Vol 3 is sorta underrated at this point, too. Though it does have a lot of low points I guess. Pretty uneven.

So I've been going through his albums and rating the songs 0-5 to figure out what my percentage would be.

Vol. 3 was the first album I did and came up with an average of 2.22, 17% great, 56% good/average/okay, 28% bad. It's def low in my rankings prob.

... I'm referencing the entirety of Magna Carta, like 90% of BP3, half of Kingdom Come, and a bunch of stray songs throughout the rest of his career. i.e. his blatant attempts at radio play in the earlier half of his career, followed by the style-jacking (attempts at trap, etc.) that defined a good chunk of the latter half of his career. All total trash IMO.

And to be sure, KC has like 25% really really really great songs, 25% OK-to-good songs, and 50% absolute horseshit.

But yea MC and BP3 are 100% trash for sure.

If I had to guess when I'm done I'm gonna be looking at like 40% great, 40% middle of the road, 20% bad. I'm also tracking producers to just to see who I like the most in Jay's discography between Just, Kanye, Timbo, etc. Bink prob gonna win on average but it's only like a half dozen tracks, whicch is a crime.

Blaze produced his best bangers. Like the hype tracks i.e. PSA, Kingdom Come, U Don't Know.

Kanye produced probably his more iconic, classic tracks. Encore, The Takeover, H to the Izzo, etc.

Both producers' tracks serve their stated purposes and both groups of tracks are undeniably classic, timeless, top notch, all-time hip-hop songs. So it's hard to choose.

Bink! probably produced some of my *favorite* Jay tracks, but I'm not sure the songs he did for Jay rise to the level that Kanye and Blaze's tracks did.

they spend a whole episode talking about Jay's duds.

they also spend a whole episode talking about which producer gave Jay his best stuff.

and i think the one about the various producers is mostly the Collabs Pt. 1 episode (though the discussion may go into the Collabs Pt. 2 episode...i don't remember).

i mean, if you're a Jay fan, the whole of the "New Juan Ep" SO FAR is just about Jay-Z. like, 8 or 9 episodes of content.

Rosenberg and Cypha have some dogshit opinions about certain aspects of Jay's career. I mean holy hell. For a couple so-called hip hop nerds I'm shocked by some of the shit say. Their thoughts on Nas/Jay are the most glaring but some of their content about the early part of Jay's career is mindblowingly stupid.

Cause I was just tired of hearing him rap about dealing drugs.

But it didn't take long for it to sink in with me. Great production, great concepts, great lyrics. One of his better albums. And you're right, definitely slept-on at this point.

Lot of good remixes of certain songs out there.

Since people were talking rankings above, I went and dug up my old Geek Down Index, and here's where his catalog fell for me. I feel like Black Album tends to be the controversial placement for some reason; the remix projects ruined certain songs for me. I hate Eminem's beat for Moment of Clarity even though it's one of my favorite performances on the album from Jay, and I have a similar problem with P.S.A., which I only find to be a 4/5 song in its original form but through its various remixes is the ONLY rap song I've ever memorized front to back and will mumble to myself at bus stops. I love that album but it came at the back end of hip-hop's worst production period ever and it shows.

Multiply how much the production on TBA blurs what I like most about that album ten-fold for Volume 3.

1. The Blueprint: 9.69
2. Reasonable Doubt: 9.47
3. Watch the Throne: 8.31
4. The Black Album: 8.04
5. American Gangster: 8.03
6. 4:44: 8.00
7. Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life: 7.36
8. Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter: 6.82
9. The Blueprint 3: 6.81
10. Magna Carta... Holy Grail: 6.64
11. Kingdom Come: 6.60
12. In My Lifetime, Vol. 1: 6.55
13. The Blueprint²: The Gift & the Curse: 6.06
14. The Dynasty: 5.36

1. Blueprint
2. Reasonable Doubt
3. American Gangster
4. 4:44
5. Black Album

I go back and forth between 4 and 5, but right now I like 4:44 a lot more than Black Album. I couldn’t believe 4:44 when it first came out, I didn’t think he had it in him anymore. His flow on “Smile” and “Marcy Me” is legitimately as sharp as anything he did Vol.2 - Blueprint (when he earned his reputation for having a better flow than anyone)

1. Blueprint
2. American Gangster
3. Reasonable Doubt
4. Vol. 3
5. Vol. 1

Black Album is just outside the top 5 or #5 depending on how I’m feeling at any given moment.

not sure id recommend it if youre only interested in music. getting no ads on youtube though AND getting access to so much music is worth it. theyre supposed to transition to youtube music but there doesnt seem to be any progress. i wouldnt assume that all the features would transfer over.

initially I got it because they had all of Prince's music and I wasn't sure if other comps were going to get it.

but overall, the service is just ok. the app sucks.
