at least way more than a man like Luther coming out, we were ready. (to be clear) NOT at the beginning of her career, but in the late 90's, sure. Ellen came out in '97
maybe its just my 2019 eyes looking at it. i just dont see it being that big of a deal.

1997 was a while ago but doesn't feel *that* long ago in terms of our shithole country's collective feelings about the LGBTQ community. In other words I wouldn't assume that the simple act of a woman coming out on her own TV show would cause her ratings to fall so dramatically.
Thank god it's more than likely the opposite effect now.
doesn't seem long ago. but I just read that even the guests on there got bomb threats, told to go back to Africa (Oprah) or simply didn't get many jobs for a while after that ep. its crazy.

There’s always rumors but y’all act like you wouldn’t be shocked if someone actually confirmed the rumors of Tom Cruise or Tyler Perry actually being gay.

Her circle had confirmed it in various documentaries.
So again, I think we all knew this.
BUT.. what I found interesting was that the physical aspect of their relationship ended before or right around the time she signed to Arista. So that part was over years before anyone even began speculating.

the book is called A Song for You: My Life With Whitney Houston. this was an open secret, but she's kept out of the mainstream pretty well.
she has every right to tell her story and get paid for it. I think she's been very respectful regarding the timing. didn't just jump into the fray when Whitney or her daughter passed.
