I’m not even half way through Howard Zinn’s a Peoples History of America and it’s the most depressing book I’ve ever gotten into. The continuous nature of rich & powerful elites destroying, murdering, and exploiting those that aren’t them as well as wielding the state and the law in their pillage is so upsetting. It’s not even cyclical in nature because it’s never been an ebb or flow against the tide. And in learning this the book also mentions why it’s never taught to you this way. That it’s beneficial to the system to give that illusion of hope and progress. It’s huge. And I’m doing the audiobook and it’s still huge.
I didn’t think it possible for me to be more cynical. But here we are.

im looking at a sample ballot and most of the proposals look like something you would vote for but i question what the alternative is.

cant find much information on the city rep candidates so cant tell why one would be better or worse.

im going to do my best to look into this but i wish it was easier.

locally i only find that there is an election. here whos running. heres how much money they raised. also these proposals are on the ballot.

i did find some statewide pros and cons arguments for them. i think i generally feel okay on what to vote for now but i cant imagine showing up to vote and reading the proposals for the first time.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/politics/texas/article/Voters-guide-to-10-Texas-constitutional-14505093.php

also useful to see what the GOP is pushing to vote for so i can see why its not a good idea lol

https://www.texasgop.org/2019-constitutional-election/

ballotpedia was useful in that it shows how many dems/rep vote for/against each proposal. most of these seem to be supported by both sides with zero to very few nos.

also helpful to fill out this sample ballot so i dont lose track of things i have decided on. i guess ill see what i can find for the local issues.

When I was younger one side of the family said that I look like one uncle while the other side said I looked like another and that's how it always is and always was

Now that we have a kid, everything is attributed to one side of the family, as opposed to the the actual parents of the kid

It's not even a big deal overall, but it's a small deal that's annoying.

So instead....
I simply don't.
I honestly don't see how any working adult with children finds the time and energy to stay up on all the shit there is to stay up on....AND formulate detailed and well thought out stances on why they land where they land on any particular issue.... don't get me wrong....I applaud them!.... but I'm always in awe when I witness it...

I won't front.....99% of the time I use my gut and whatever knowledge I already posses to come to my stance on issues. I'm not built for this think piece culture. Folks be getting all into it, but to me? .... they sound like thiiiiisss.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgsossmuDXA&feature=youtu.be&t=11

to really go in depth researching these policies?

I tend to use my gut as well... and honestly anything that sounds like it will help the most people tends to get my vote.

All I want to know is how much more will I have to pay? I don’t mind paying more taxes to get more healthcare across the board but I don’t want to pay more taxes AND more healthcare cost while receiving less.

Everything else, including state senate and president elections I just don't have the time for.

City/County/State laws and who supports what has a direct impact on me and my future plans. I voted for the governor in-part for future marijuana legalization (for business ventures), and so far he's trying to do what I voted for him to do.

They denied my first one because they claimed they couldn’t see the documents and the numbers didn’t add up.

I included the amount paid for with my extended warranty because that was MY MONEY that could’ve been used for other fixes.

I wants my moneys!!!!

I went today to add to this.

and it is locked and archived. There are so many other threads that are older that folks can add to.
