I’m having my first rough week at work. My coworkers are tiring. They waste so much time saying why something won’t work instead of formulating ways for it to work. It’s not the role of an engineer to not offer any solutions.
And from their perspective, I hear that they don’t feel they have time, support, resources to really succeed based on the past ... but they’re not offering any alternatives on why we should do anything.
Can I get some advice on how to be a better teammate without wasting my own time?

first week? chill. you might want to jump right in and make changes. it might be super clear to you what needs to happen. wait. people might be putting up a front. try to understand their perspective. try to find out more from other departments, input/outputs. basically just gather info and make sure you have the whole picture.
take notes or whatever you need to in this first week. then maybe go for low hanging fruit that most will agree on that might not make too many people uncomfortable. then build on that.
worst case? remember its just a gig and get that paycheck. look for something else and dont let the place stress you out too much.

And my response to that was you need to make your pitch to someone else If you have to sell it to a guy that can just say no, then he’s not your sole audience.
