Should adhere to, specifically when it comes to playing black music on radio stations that target black people?

i would say that commercial radio + morals/ethics doesn't and haven't ever mixed. they are all about their bottom line. period. they do what they do based on that...if people complain about cursing, they limit it etc.

with that said, the listener ultimately should decide to either turn the radio on or off depending on what's on...whether its because they don't like the content of the song itself, or simply want to hear different music

if we're assuming adults are the consumer, adults should be able to hear whatever/whenever.

if there are not adults around to monitor what kids are listening to or adults choose not, that's not the radio stations responsibility to police.

By the government I would agree with you. I think the consumer has to regulate their own ethical and moral standards when it comes to the information and entertainment they consume, but I think about it differently as a citizen in a society where private entities that license the airwaves have a *statutory responsibility to adhere to community standards in their market. I think they should be subject to losing their license if they are playing obscene material at all times of day.

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

The two hip hop stations where I live switches up its whole rotation to gospel music on sundays until 2pm. At 2:01pm it’s back to your regularly scheduled programming of bad bitches, balenciaga sneakers, and Bentley trucks.

I always found that shit to be weird. Do they mix church and state on Sunday radio where y’all live too?

Commercial radio stations in the dmv have almost totally wiped out Sunday morning gospel in exchange for thug n'b/trap/stripper rap

Driving to church and the only radio option for black music is dababy and Megan the stallion talking about titty fucking and riding dick

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

If I was in the car with them, I had to listen to Donnie Simpson, Tony Perkins,, Chris Paul’s corny ass and Huggie Lowdown.

Point being, this is squarely on the parents to monitor and control. I doubt these kids are streaming most of these corny morning shows on their own... that means if they’re hearing it, it’s with their parents consent.

Yes, it’s adult material but it’s also primarily accessed by adults, especially in the morning, so I don’t think there is an issue. There’s always the local news channel or talk radio station, oldies etc... plus streaming options

It's a okay song, but it's impossible to censor or apply any sort of innocence to what that song is about - codependence, intentionally toxic behavior, and tantric sex.

I don't know. Anybody listening to commercial radio for any purpose other than total curiosity is doing it wrong in 2019 IMO, but then I don't own a radio or a car and haven't in years so it's not something I really think about anymore.

I see folks blaming and calling for the ban of all sorts of things (especially if they are associated with right-wing white males) with the premise that these things influence bad behaviour.

This isn't about you, but rather the folks that defend negativity when it's something that benefits them or they enjoy.

it's comical when people vote for a candidate because of what they say
it's comical when people listen to music for the message

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

A good number of people are influenced by it even if they don't copy the content of the entertainment it a means of socializing and classifying people. It also creates a negative image for our people internationally.

I don't necessarily disagree with that second point but there are enough REAL negative images out there that "stripper music" should be the least of our concerns.

and billion dollar propaganda is not influential especially to impressionable youth who are targeted by these ads.

Many youth give in to peer pressure of some sort some worse than others compound that with the peculiar condition and history Black folk have in the USA and you get haven for taking advantage of youth with a shaky or lack of identity.

Propaganda aka media is the 4th wing of government(unofficially). It's about stripper music and the overall disrespect of Black people image wise.

In response to Reply # 0

Being from the DMV area there used to be two stations that you could always switch to if you wanted a break from the popular rap and R&B stations, WHUR 96.3 and MAJIC 102.3. Both of those stations now play a Hodge-podge of 80's and 90's throwback R&B and rap for the most part. As a 40 year old I don't really care to hear stations playing music from my teens and early 20's that I didn't even like that much when it was intially released lol. Satellite radio is the only option for hearing stations dedicated to 60's and 70's R&B, which is kinda sad considering how important those decades are in black music.

My bad for the post jack.

listening to the radio every morning and afternoon.

ETA: That's a big part of why Tom Joyner is retiring - because the rest of his core audience is retiring too, and he doesn't have too many listeners under about 45. Ricky Smiley has a bunch of fans as young as about 30.

I supposed I'm just fearful of future generations not being exposed to that music by way of radio, and what that will mean in the long run. We just assume that having it all at our/their fingertips via YouTube, streaming sites and satellite radio, they'll find their way to it on their own. I guess time will tell.

generally folks aren't reaching backwards to find stuff, especially younger folks. some will, but its not common.

we just have to live with the paradigm shift in how music and all media is consumed. when were younger, we were a captive audience to what the old heads were playing. be in the car or the family get together. now the choices are much more abundant and they can just tune out the music of previous generations.

Cause it sure reads in here like it’s not ok.

So weird to hear the “but the PARENTS”

It’s fucking radio... not Skinimax.

and even the Tom Joyner plays some questionable stuff. I’m old now tho... so I find myself amazed at some of the content playing at 7AM.

Its a parental decision when you're talking about young kids. Everybody is different. When I was a kid some of my friends got to watch stuff on cable tv like "Skinimax" that I didn't. Same goes for music today. Parents today in their 20's and 30's grew up on different music than our parents did. I've heard people randomly comment on social media that "I was jamming to 'twerk that shit' in the car then I remembered I had the kids with me and had to turn it down lol".

There has always been "risque" music and we have all heard songs as adults and said "I had no idea that's what they were talking about!" but today they don't even try to hide it and I wouldn't even feel comfortable listening to certain songs that I enjoy in the presence of a child.

That’s like saying it would be ok for CBS or NBC to show sex scenes at 7AM.

who aren't necessarily known for making 'stripper' music.

radio companies have done it for a while. I can choose to listen to Blueface or Guy, depending on which station I want to hear in the moment. and both options are likely owned by the same company.

in general, the more likely option is the station playing the newest raunchy shit. but its not like the choices aren't available. if my kids are around, then I can figure out which lane I want to go in. and it might be whatever's on the popular station.
