"What's the worst song on some of your favorite albums?"

If the album is among your favorites, it's possible that this is still a very good song but it's just your least favorite? Or do any of your favorite albums have a song or 2 that you really just don't like?

This started off as a fun post idea & that's why I didn't put it in the Lesson. But y'all can steer it whichever way you want. I'll add a couple of mine after lunch.

Happy it's at the very end of the album though, but I can imagine it'd mess up the flow (imo).
It's not a bad song, just doesn't fit the mood of the album.

I remember when a girl in college tried to put it on at a party me and my roommates were having, and I embarrassed her in front of everybody about attempting to play that bullshit in my apartment. We still talk about that incident to this day lol. I was really loud and kinda mean about it.

Always felt that way. My favorite of his albums and agree that it's his best. Outside of that track it's his most consistent, tightest, fat-trimmed album for sure. With the highest highs too. And the lows aren't really low at all besides D&HG

If we're talking Grind Date then "Shopping Bags" *does* fit the criteria for this post ... which is another head scratcher similar to Shoomp in that it's produced by an all time beatmaker (Madlib) and the song fucking sucks.

I think it *was* on an alternate version but didn't make it on the US release, thankfully.

Ha funnily enough it's probably Shopping Bags, though I'd have to think harder about it cause there may be something on like Bionix that I'm forgetting (I love that album's highs but it has a dud or two for sure).

I'll report back if I change my mind but for now I'm going w/Shopping Bags.

... above. It's definitely the weakest song on Bionix but I can at least listen to Bionix without skipping it for the most part.

Shopping Bags is unlistenable IMO.

And also I agree that Bionix is better than Mosaic Thump. Just slightly tho. They're both a little bloated but I like the highs of Bionix just slightly more.

This was inspired by that Jam & Lewis post over in the Lesson. I was thinking of all the songs on "NE Heartbreak" and I remembered how much I don't like "Competition." But it's not enough to push the album off my all-time favorites list. I just skip that song whenever it comes on. Hell, I used it fast forward it when I had the cassette.

Another one that comes to mind is Maxwell's "Til the Cops Come Knockin'." First time I heard it, it was like, "Meh." But after hearing it in the context of the whole album, I could understand the way it fit. It's still my least favorite song on "UHS," but I can listen to it without skipping.

I came out of the "Halftime hater" closet on here a little while ago and caught a lot of hate for it if I recall correctly.

Rightfully so, I understand that folks adore that song for a lot of different reasons. It's just always been so boring to me. Can't really explain it.

Like don't get me wrong, I don't skip it ever. It's not a bad song at all. It just doesn't meet the standards of the rest of the album IMO.

All these years I couldn't find the words besides just "boring" and shit like that.

But I think that is *exactly* the problem with it. It doesn't stick out like a sore thumb but clearly the other productions are years ahead of where Halftime's vibe is @.

It was on the Zebrahead soundtrack, so it was “old” by ‘94.

Similar to Dwyck being on Hard To Earn. You can tell just by the sound there too, IMO.

It’s crazy how fast things used to change in hip hop. And now you’ll hear the same sounds for half a decade at least.

In response to Reply # 7

The first time I heard "Illmatic" I wasn't impressed with "Life's A Bitch" cause of it being one of those easy recognizable beats on the entire album, even though most would say the same for "It Ain't Hard To Tell" but with that song Large Professor kind of freaked it well enough where it wasn't just a simple loop.

After a few listens I like "Life's A Bitch" cause of the rhymes and Nas' father horn playing gives it a little more than just them rhyming over a popular sample.

I feel that way too sometimes. The verses are fire, but the drums are mushy and don't knock. And I always found the sample way too sleepy and quiet storm

That said, the actual worst song on Illmatic is One Time for your Mind

I was always middle of the road on Tupac. I liked some of his stuff & could do without some of the rest. But this Makaveli album blew me away. Despite not being one of his biggest fans, this is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Except for "Toss It Up." That songs is horrible to me. Not enough to ruin what's a personal classic to me but it's pretty damn bad.

In response to Reply # 0

I'm a big fan of Pharoahe Monch and "Internal Affairs" is one of my top 10 favorite rap albums but the song "The Ass" is the one song I usually skip, once in a while I'll let it play if I'm not there to go to the next song, but usually it gets skipped.

And the thing about it, the beat isn't bad at all but feels kind of average (no disrespect to Diamond D fans), Pharoahe's lyrics are cool, I like Apani B. but her appearance was kind of lackluster it didn't make the song anymore interesting; it's not the worst song I've heard from him but on this classic album it's kind of the dud for me.

In response to Reply # 0

Every great album has that one song that somebody likes the least and for "Tearz" on "Enter The Wu-Tang" is that song, I love the beat a lot, maybe it's RZA's rhymes I didn't care for or maybe cause Ghost's verse seemed like he didn't come into his own sound just yet, idk.

Even though it was one of the early songs cause it was on the b-side of the indie 12" release of of "Protect Ya Neck" titled as "After The Laughter Comes Tears", it just seems like a throw-a-way song.

First pressings of "Stillmatic" have "Braveheart Party" but later pressings don't, media says Mary J. wanted it off, but when you find out that Jay-Z wrote her verse, and this album also has "Ether" on it, makes you wonder if it was some other reason why it was taken off, but almost everyone agrees that was one of the wack Nas songs anyway.
