Wife has 3 more payments left.
Also got the nod to start looking at selling this house.

that credit score will shoot up in a minute. personal loans reflect way better than cards to on the report.
I was thinking of doing a personal loan to knock off the car in case the job gets shifty. don't wanna worry about giving the car up. but my car loan rate is 2.69. don't think I can beat that anywhere.

I was just trying to consolidate and eventually rid myself of cc debt.
cc debt looks worse on a credit report because it has no real end date. plus folks tend to pay as little as possible, so the debt carries forever.
personal loans, including car debt, have finite timelines. each payment takes a decent chunk of the debt down.
I've had 2 personal loans. the first qwas to pay of cc debt. then I got a 2nd personal loan, with a much lower interest rate, to pay off the first personal loan. score went BOOM.

especially with companies tying the discounts into monthly credits instead of upfront discounts.
im looking at it as a no interest loan, the savings that theyre giving me as a bill credit is going straight to pay down a CC. might do the full amount of the phone.
i used to pay the minimum on credit cards AND use up whatever space i had left to get groceries/gas when things were tight. ever since i stopped using the cards the balance goes down a lot by just paying the minimum. it started as an accident, i didnt receive my replacement card so i had no way to use it. a year later i had like $300 balance available. that got my eyes open lol
i know its much better to pay more though. i guess thats my next phase. pick one card to pay more towards. im just trying to wait until i move houses so know how much extra money i can throw towards credit cards.

im making some moderate gains on attaching my debt. student loans will start to hit soon and take up the "free" money but i guess that was part of the plan.

i think theres a few terms for it. how much of your credit you are using. i was up to like 80% usage of credit, below 50% now. got a ways to go but at least its moving in the right direction.
still have a ton of debt though, those student loans are no joke.

I was up for a full-time teaching position that would have been a big bump for me financially and would have allowed me to stay at a place I'd put a ton of work into. Didn't get it. That was heartbreaking and I'm still not good with it. But because I was hedging my bets, I had also talked with a different school about teaching a history class that covers my exact academic specialty - or as close as you can get for undergraduates. And because I'm a weird halfwit who's terrible at things like "career" and "money" I would have been at least a tiny bit bummed that getting the aforementioned full-time thing would have prevented me from teaching the history class.
I'm out a ton of money and my career has taken a big step backwards. But I get to talk about sixteenth century Europe with a bunch of 20 year old history majors and I'm legitimately rather excited about it. Gonna be a good class.
