"This Rich Paul Rule is the perfect opportunity for HBCUs..."
Thu Aug-08-19 02:15 PM by Cam

...to break from the NCAA and create a new athletic association, using their multiple, already existent, athletic conference infrastructures as their organizational backbone.

They'd be able to attract top talent, primarily by providing less restrictive student athlete regulation and providing allowances the NCAA would never agree to, like letting athletes being able to accept benefactor gifts, or their own personal endorsements.

Resulting in bolstered HBCU enrollments and funding sources of opportunity, like television (hopefully from non-traditional channels--those with Black ownership) contracts for national broadcast rights.

Look at how the NAIA and the NJCAA use their small sports leagues to keep their little schools alive, almost singlehandedly, by giving players who fucked up outside of sports a chance. Imagine if this other alternate Athletic Association attracted and kept top tier talent across a bunch of revenue sports.

to get them into the pros. they basically go to the best school (or one of the best) that recruits them.

the ones who dont go are the ones who dont have that option (skill/academics/legal/etc). even in the example you gave in one of your replies about smaller organizations...you mentioned the players are there as an alternate resort (fucked up).

you arent getting any exposure at an hbcu and you def aint getting the strength of schedule/competition that pro gatekeepers would rate you well on (a large reason why hbcu/small school players dont get pro interest).

your idea is noble but realistically wouldnt work out for anyone (i saw chris broussard say something similar to you so that should give you a lot of skepticism lol).

sidenote...i remember case one telling investors (and kaepernick) to double down on the alliance of american football (which went bankrupt 2 months into the start of the season lmao).

But why do those schools give them the best chance?
The answer is media exposure.

News a shakeup like this would provide, along with cosigns or partnerships with the likes of Lebron N'em, would provide...exposure.

I'm not talking about attracting just NAIA or NJCAA talent, but even still, those guys still go to the pros.

HBCU's dont get exposure, because there's no equivalent to the Big10Network, SECNetwork, anything above an occasional game on ESPN2 etc.

It's not an idea of nobility, it's an multilayered idea to change the current fucked up status quo.

both are a huge financial hurdle to overcome for HBCUs. as much as I would love to see this happen, it can't without the proper upgrades for facilities and staff for elite athletes.

some shit needs to be tried, and to fail at first, for it to succeed.

it's better than never trying it at all cuz the status quo will NEVER change if something isnt attempted.

many of them under 5k.

these other schools with major athletic programs have like 40-50k plus massive donor networks of alumni and parents.

you cant just expect athletes to come and *then* possibly change the infrastructure gap. that infrastructure gap is the reason athletes are going to the bigger schools in the 1st place.

not tryna be funny here but...have you (not you personally) ever been to an hbcu and to a big division 1 school? lol.

some of these big schools power entire local economies. like the entire commercial/residential development and influx of major retailers in the happy valley/centre county region happened because of penn state. the colleges are legit cities in themselves.

the order of magnitude is *completely* different.

They also have a pretty good athletic program...

Football team has had a drafted player each of the past 3 years...no other school in the FCS can say that...

Beat an FBS school three years in a row...

Men’s and Woman’s Track Team is nationally ranked...

The point is...if you’re good enough for the league, the league will find you regardless where you go...

theres a big difference between just making the league and being one of the players invited to soak up tv time.

alabama had 12 draft picks in 1 year. 3 in the first round alone. if you gotta brag about getting 1 in for the last 3 years...youre kinda making my point for me. levels (c)

It’s too far gone.

Players will still go there and a select few will make it to the pros but the best talent will always lean towards the best option to make the pros if they are eligible.

IMO these schools need to fix internal issues first. My wife keeps getting hired at HBCU’s and then they can’t find the money to pay her.

the way high school aau teams have effectively sidelined black baseball players is akin to creating a segregated league with a bunch of hispanic players

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

What is the NCAA actually doing for these non-athletic revenue generating schools, aside from lining up payday games for them to get pummeled by power conference schools?
At the very least, it would provide a more balanced power share, for the schools and players.
That's the practical draw.

i thought maybe he left high school with lebron then got straight to that nba money with him. made sense.

but both him and mav are a few years older than lebron. they prolly had this mapped out long term knowing bron was destined for the nba. but it does seem a lil weird not to pick up some management/negotiation/finance education in the meantime.

he basically just became an understudy to leon rose (lebrons previous agent) and worldwide wes at caa then eventually bounced and took over lebrons dealings.

i had some limited dealings with him many years ago, like early 2000s. i didn't think he was the same guy when i started hearing his name with all these first rounders and shit. then i saw him on TV and i was like holy fuck it's the same guy.

he had a very keen acumen at the time, i remember he used to cake like crazy and people knew/trusted him in the rap and sports games.

the thing with lebron, if i remember correctly, is that they ran into each other at the airport and lebron chatted him up about a jersey. i don't believe that he had any previous contact with lebron or carter, which is crazy as hell. he became part of their crew once lebron was drafted and yeah like you said he worked under leon rose at CAA.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

and neither went to college.

That college degree is over rated.

If you got hustle you can get real far in life without a degree.

Unless you are in education no one is going to ask for your transcripts. Hell? I worked for a university in the marketing dept. and no one verified that I went to college. Once they saw my work I was hired.

you gotta get the top-level coaching and national exposure that will attract the top athletes. without that, you really don't have shit.

so how many schools will be involved, how will they get a big ass TV contract (gotta have that first, not second) and how will they steal away the top coaches making millions at big programs?

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
