I admit, I never paid much attention to the city and all that it has to offer. Now, I'm a bit pressed for time and I don't have time to do thorough research. So many Latin/West Indian restaurants! Which ones are actually good? The only bucket-list items I ever had was go to Art Basel (or is that wack?), visit Little Haiti, visit Little Havana, and go to the beach. Oh, and see what Coconut Grove is all about.
So, any suggestions? Wrekka stos? Restaurants? Bookstores? Shopping Districts? Boutiques? The best beaches (weather permitting...)?
Does Miami have a Harlem/BedStuy/Bronzeville/Leimert Park? Cuz I'm that kind of chick...
What's dense and walkable?
What neighborhoods should I avoid?
Things you may want to know: - I'll be pretty tied up with conference activities Wednesday-Saturday afternoon. My Airbnb from Wednesday-Friday is in fuck-ass suburban Aventura because that's where the convention is... - The conference, for me, ends Saturday afternoon. Sunday is my complete free day. I leave Monday morning. - I am a "pescatarian" who mainly eats like a vegetarian. Fish better be wild, fresh, not a bottom feeder, mercury free and delicious if I put it in my mouth. - I will not be renting a car so my only options are Lyft/Uber/walking/public transit - I still haven't booked my hotel for Sunday and Saturday night. - I will be flying in and out of FLL. I'm thinking about staying near the airport Sunday night and staying in Miami city proper Saturday night so I can get a real taste of the city https://legacy.travelnoire.com/how-to-spend-a-day-in-black-owned-miami/
The forecast calls for rain all week so no beach time for moi. I had planned on basking in the sun for a few hours and catching up on some reading. ;-(

Plus, I'm not a fan of going to basic (local/regions/national) chain restaurants while traveling. That'd be like going to Dunkin Donuts for a donut instead of Cafe du Monde for beignets while in NOLA.
Hell to the naw, naw, naw.

I'm going to be there at the same time but I'm not going to the conference this year. I skipped because we were going on a cruise the next week, but then my MIL decided to spend a few days in miami first anyway lol

Depends on what you like. Wynwood (arts district) is probably my favorite area to go in Miami. I'd definitely recommend trying Coyo if you go there. Me and my boys went there 3 times in the 4 days we were there. My best friend got the shrimp tacos twice, so maybe that'll be up your alley.
Other than that, a few spots that was recommended to me by locals there but we didn't get to hit:
Brickell - Blackbird Ordinary - Sugar (Brickell) ... I DID get to go here for happy hour. Kinda pretentious but the rooftop views are nice and drinks are good
Wynwood - Wood Tavern - 1800 Lucky - Brick (I think they have funky hrs, may wanna check in advance) - Dirty Rabbit - Lagniappe (wine/jazz bar) ... was really hoping to make it here - Coyo (again, def for the food but they also have a secret room in the back)
