"The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience (2019) - The lonely Island"

The Lonely Island spoofs notorious baseball stars Jose Canseco and
Mark McGwire in this visual rap album set in the Bash Brothers' 1980s heyday.

So many great Oakland and Bay Area references.

reminiscent of "license to ill" era beastie boys, swass era mix-alot and spiked with spoonfuls of other abject white-ocity

the fact that a hiphop parody album (exists?) is better - beats and rhymes - than most done straight is fascinating

there are defintely parts on "bash" where samberg is doing e-40-type inflections

not bad, but still jarring nonetheless

a play off "Bitties in the BK Lounge"

it wasn't... I think I might have a crush on Maya Rudolph though

alternately, "Feed the Beast" is what you would have if "Who we Be" by DMX was a shirt and you accidentally pouring bleach on it, the end is very "me and my girlfriend" btw

Somethings are not being done in other forms of rap music that Lonely Island does well:

*Always push a narrative forward - the song's a story (the story is a long joke)
*Come up with a twists/surprises (otherwise know as a punchlines)
*The music can't be lazy - it has to change too or it's too one dimensional to sustain a full length song.
*Play with the established musical cliches and don't be afraid to mix them up (they have the advantage of not needing to "innovate.")
* Even slow tempo songs have rap that is driving the story

They do these all well, not all rapper do.

I also think they probably work as a team on the lyrics - like a sitcom writer's room - they best joke/line wins. And the contrast of high concept / low comedy works well too.

But yeah, I can honestly say I enjoy them more than most rap now.

that said, they have been honing this brand of musical comedy for a while so this is pretty consistent as a parody/concept "album" from them

Nah again. It has to be funny if you are going to call it comedy.
