GOP Fundraiser Elliott Broidy Accused of Coercing Woman Into Having Abortion

Los Angeles judge strikes irrelevant allegations from case
GOP fundraiser complains of ‘malicious and disgusting’ claims

Republican fundraiser Elliott Broidy lost his fight to prevent the public from learning about allegations in a lawsuit by former Playboy model Shera Bechard that he coerced her into having an abortion after getting her pregnant.

Broidy is accused by Bechard in the lawsuit of breaching an agreement to pay her $1.6 million to keep quiet about their affair. The hush payment deal was negotiated on Broidy’s behalf by Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer and fixer who pleaded guilty last month to campaign finance violations related to payments to Stephanie Clifford, the adult movie star known as Stormy Daniels.

In a ruling Friday that allows Bechard’s claims to be made public over Broidy’s objections, California Superior Court Judge Elizabeth White granted Broidy’s request to strike allegations from the case going forward that aren’t relevant to the breach-of-contract dispute.

Among Bechard’s allegations are that Broidy refused to wear condoms and didn’t disclose to her that he had genital herpes until years after their sexual relationship, according to a court filing. The model also claimed that the Los Angeles money manager began hurting her during their sexual activities, and pushed her to drink excessively so that "she would be more compliant toward his physical abuse."

Bechard recalled Broidy telling her that he admired Trump’s "uncanny ability to sexually abuse women and get away with it."

Broidy said he will “seek all relief available to me under the settlement agreement against her and her attorneys.” He filed an emergency request with a state appeals court to block White’s ruling, but the documents had already been unsealed by the judge.

“This person tried to extract money from me by making up false, malicious and disgusting allegations," Broidy said in a statement. "I have acknowledged making the mistake of having an affair, and I entered a confidential agreement to protect my family’s privacy. I honored my agreement until her lawyer breached it."

From Cohen to Collusion, Tallying Trump’s Legal Risks: QuickTake

Friday’s disclosures follow Broidy’s resignation as deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee in April when his payments to Bechard became public. While some portions of the lawsuit were unsealed five weeks ago, Broidy fought to keep other sections under wraps, complaining of "false, salacious, and irrelevant claims."

Bechard claims Broidy made two installment payments of $200,000 each and stopped paying her after details of their affair were leaked by others. Broidy has said he offered to help Bechard financially after she decided not to continue the pregnancy.

The model also sued Michael Avenatti, Clifford’s lawyer, for disclosing details of the settlement that he got from her former attorney, Keith Davidson.

Avenatti won dismissal of two of the claims against him and said he will appeal the judge’s decision not to dismiss a third claim.

"I never should have been part of this lawsuit in the first place,” Avenatti said after the hearing, adding that Bechard’s lawyer will end up owing him money.

Last month, the Washington Post reported the Justice Department was investigating whether Broidy sought to sell his influence within the Trump administration to foreign officials in exchange for tens of millions of dollars.

Earlier this year, Broidy sued Qatar, alleging the Persian Gulf state was behind a hack of his computer that resulted in leaks to the media that depicted him as using his influence in the Trump administration to enrich himself and affect policy. A federal judge in Los Angeles threw out the claims last month.

The case is Bechard v. Broidy, BC712913, California Superior Court, Los Angeles County.

(Updates with Broidy’s statement in sixth paragraph. An earlier version of the story corrected a description of the status of the case.)
America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

GOP Donor Lobbies to Reseal Lurid Lawsuit by Playmate

LOS ANGELES (CN) – A top Republican fundraiser has filed for an emergency stay of a former Playboy model’s lurid claims against him, which a judge in Los Angeles ordered unsealed Friday.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Elizabeth White ordered the unsealing of the full Playboy model Shera Bechard’s complaint, which reveals details about a $1.6 million hush settlement she accepted to keep quiet about her 2017 affair with GOP honcho Elliott Broidy and the pregnancy she says he forced her to terminate.

White granted Broidy’s request to strike “prurient allegations” that she deemed unrelated to the lawsuit and ordered Bechard to file an amended complaint. Broidy did not ask to seal Bechard’s causes of action.

However, White stayed her order to let Broidy seek emergency relief.

And in the petition he filed Friday, Broidy asked for an emergency stay of all proceedings and for the case to be resealed because it threatens his constitutional privacy rights and could “inflict irreversible constitutional and reputational injuries.”

He adds: “There is no right of public access to irrelevant information.”

In her lawsuit, Bechard claims Broidy refused to use a condom, failed to tell her he has herpes and forced her to get an abortion after barring her from using birth control during their affair.

Broidy says Bechard’s lawsuit for breach of contract in a confidentiality agreement involving Broidy – should not have included “salacious and inflammatory allegations” regarding his sexual and medical history.

“Numerous paragraphs of her complaint go into graphic, sordid detail about Mr. Broidy’s purported sexual history, health, and romantic relationship with plaintiff,” Broidy says in his petition, adding the details are “designed to malign and embarrass” Broidy and his family.

A redacted version of the complaint was unsealed July 31 and was posted on Twitter by Bechard’s attorney, Los Angeles-based Peter Stris of Stris & Maher.

“Elliott Broidy continues to viciously attack our client, Shera Bechard, in the press—this time because a judge found his legal arguments for secrecy unavailing and because his own lawyers failed to do their jobs,” a spokeswoman for Stris & Maher said in a statement. “We will not be intimidated as we work to vindicate our client’s rights.”

Broidy, a major donor with ties to the Trump White House, resigned as deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee in April 2018 after the affair with Bechard came to light.

The hush agreement was arranged by President Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen, who also facilitated a hush agreement between porn star Stormy Daniels, Trump and shell company Essential Consultants. Daniels claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006 and was paid ahead of the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet.

Also Friday, White dismissed two of Bechard’s claims that Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti collaborated with Bechard’s former attorney Keith Davidson to stifle the hush agreement.

Bechard accuses Davidson of drafting a one-sided agreement that favored Broidy, forcing her to sign away her rights and including a clause requiring her to pay $4.8 million in liquidated damages if she ever mentioned the settlement with Broidy.

She seeks the return of $140,000 she paid Davidson for his work, the remaining money due under her deal with Broidy and damages against all defendants.

Avenatti appeared to reference the affair in an April 12 post on Twitter: “In last 18 mos, Mr. Cohen negotiated yet another hush NDA, this time on behalf of a prominent GOP donor who had a relationship with a LA woman, impregnated her and then made sure she had an abortion. The deal provided for multiple payments across many months.”

Avenatti did not respond to a request for comment but on Twitter called Bechard’s claims “bogus.” He also said he plans to appeal a third claim that wasn’t dismissed, and that Bechard will end up owing him money when the case is over.

“The court also denied their request for attorneys’ fees and invited me to seek my fees,” Avenatti said. “Stris and his client will ultimately be paying me when this charade is over.”

Bechard’s lawyers disagreed.

“Today Judge White found Shera Bechard has persuasive evidence that Michael Avenatti illegally pressured Ms. Bechard’s former lawyer to hand over her confidential information. We think that ruling speaks for itself, and we will vigorously oppose all of Mr. Avenatti’s attempts to avoid answering to a jury for his misconduct,” a Stris & Maher spokeswoman said.

Avenatti has previously tweeted that he should have never been named in Bechard’s initial complaint and called the move an “ambush.”

A lot of these dudes who voted for this Bill prolly had their mistress get an abortion or pressured a family member to get one at some point and time.

Someone else said it’s about filling up the prisons and I definitely think that could be true. The crime rate dropped about 15 to 20 years after they passed Roe vs Wade. With $15 wages creeping in they need that cheap labor.

its a *theory* with no concrete correlation or causality. this was all hashed out in the past.

the fall in crime rates also coincide with an explosion of illegal immigration. are you gonna credit illegal immigrants for making americans act better?

youre falling for the same statistical fallacy as that dumb republican dude who said we can reduce crime by aborting black babies 15 years ago.

ironically the author of freakonomics is pro-private-prison-labor.

hes also anti-union, pro-eugenics, pro-authoritarian, anti-voting/civil-rights, etc. basically a right wing extremist in sheeps clothing.

and hes manipulated his work to justify these ideological means.

i honestly didnt know anyone was still quoting freakonomics. especially anyone black. 2019 has been full of surprises.

im mad you made me type all of this shit out lol.

White or black... I think people who abort babies they don’t want definitely would have an impact on crime rates.

I guess I fell for it.

statistically, crimes are down with the more liberal abortions laws that are in place.

this thinking assumes that being born makes you somehow criminal. the two don't go together.

The “YouTube conspiracy” is now that more states are forcing women to have babies they don’t want will increase the crime rate because young women will have unwanted children in poverty.

Or conservatives who dodged/deferred the draft or otherwise opted out of the military yet still want to invade everywhere else.

Yeah, they've all paid for abortions. Because it was convenient for them, you think they want poor women to have that level of freedom?

because it turns the conversation away from women to THE REAL VICTIM IS BLACK MEN

and it's also very neatly evil

and it's also just made up.

it's pretty simple: the right wing is a coalition of unpopular, completely unviable ideas piled together on top of racism until you have enough to make a voting bloc. pretending to be anti-abortion is just a thing that they can use to pull in a certain group of white people.

there ain't a logic/plan to it beyond "it won't really affect me because I'm white, rich and likely a man"

if it punishes poor black people and makes their lives worse, all the better, but it's a platform because it's convenient and the people who are dedicated to it are willing to overlook all the other shitty things and show up and vote

I put the over under at 2.5

The abortion thing is to evangelicals what 'Build That Wall' is to racists. It's pandering to morons, or just moron shit by evangelicals who have been elected. I don't think there's any grand strategy to it.

Yes, I know he has children. I don't think they were conceived by sex. At least, not sex between a woman and their big, weird germaphobe father.
