"Did my civic duty as a Black person today "

Coworker mentions that he’s now looking at wedding venues asks for advice.
I said that MY main consideration when looking was no places that used to house slaves
Then causally mentioned how weird it is that so many weddings are at plantations
Then I paused.

just looked up my wedding venue, historic revolution era farmstead in our area (SE PA, assumption is of course no slaves because as we all learned in school, PA was a free state, except not really)

So there were no slaves at this farm. BUT wait... after the revolution he was gifted two derelict rice plantations by the state of GA that had been seized from loyalists. So of course this freedom fighter bought slaves to work them.

The whole thing was fucking bizarre to me. They had this one area all set up for wedding receptions and it was like 20 feet from the little slave cabins. Kids were walking around eating ice cream cones. WTF. It was interesting to see but I felt gross paying for it.

Technically we were married in my wife’s families house which they built because it’s a tradition in her fam.

Charleston, SC.
I think it's important for folks to go if they're really about trying to get some sort of impression of what the south was like and what plantation life was like for both slaves and the oppressors.
I don't recall the name, but the one we went to did a decent job of presenting the place in a historical context and not a romanticizing one...but at the same time...it is fcked up that they have no problem renting the place out for Weddings and parties. You gotta be a fcked up human being to actively seek partying or having a wedding on a plantation.

part of our Louisiana History course in the 8th grade.

I recall being excited that we were on a field trip and that I got to kick it with my boys during the school day for a period longer than our P.E. class and recess. They were not in any of my classes because I was the chosen one that teachers wanted to have in the Honors classes. Anyway, I also recall not liking being on the plantation or in the house because of what it represented. I remember being pissed off that the some of the white kids thought the shit was cool and had jokes they would not dare, then, recite aloud.

I did like the Spanish moss hanging from the trees that lined the main path leading to the house. Otherwise, I'd like to believe that either they don't take the students on these tours any longer or that, if they do, the students are provided the most complete context possible about it all.

Dude goes verbatim, "I've been holding it all morning, I'm not gonna buy anything, I need to use the bathroom RIGHT NOW!"

BOOM!

Right den 'n nere I knew it was finna be some shit 'cus there's no way I was gonna let'eem come at ME the same way.

Sure enough, Bread makes his way into the bathroom and it goes down:

Bread: Hey, I said how long you gonna be?

NoDrawlz: *Sho Kosugi Ninja hands when he was inna church scene off "Revenge Of The Ninja"*

Bread: Hey,...how- *cuts'eem off mid-sentence*

NoDrawlz: Dont ever disturb a man when he droppin a duece!

Bread: But I've been holding it all morning.

NoDrawlz: That ain't got shit ta do wit ME! ! !"...

Bread: You're starting to piss me off. You're gonna make me call you *something that I shouldn't. *he peeped my Blaccent and made it racial*.

At this point, Bread exits the restroom and returns to the lobby to raise hell. After that passive threat, I'd already resolved myself to smoov whoop his azz once I got out.

Ninja wiped his azz, washed my handz, and stepped out into the lobby, and in one single smoov motion, I made eye-contact with Bread, said to'eem, "Was that YOU?", and intrepidly walked up to'eem and unleashed a straight-right-hand all up off in his grill!

All da clerks like:

Ol'boy slid back a few feet den grabbed both his left-cheek AND his bootyhole in disbelief and skeedaddled to the restroom to prevent an accident, face turning red den a muhfukka!

I turned to the manager to apologize and Sun already knew what time it was, he was like, "Don't worry, we already called the cops on him before you came out. He does this all the time. Glad you put an end to it!" and left it at dat.

I walked out like aint shit happen.

Now, when I bust up in'nere, the sistaz be all giggly n shit.
Ain't seen Bread since!

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

“Because of the world we live in now, it’s all about race and everyone wants to put everyone in a different category,” she said. “I think it’s a shame because everyone’s so accepting, and social media is dividing people because people get so offended by everything.”

“It did go through my mind: Will they be offended that I have my wedding here?” Helms said. “And they came and had a great time — wonderful memories made with them. They were not offended. And so that just made me feel better, because we have come so far that there’s no need to backtrack now.”

Donald fucking Trump is president, hoe. We've barely gotten anywhere.
