You are putting the 2 before the 1. You can't be real with anybody until you can be real with yourself first and foremost.
Honesty starts with you and is not predicated upon whether someone allows you to be honest. That absolves you of self-accountability which is NOT good.
YOU have the power to be honest and whether the individuals that you interact with can *handle that honesty is a completely separate matter altogether.

I saw a story about buttigeig* meeting a lady in the boonies where she acknowledged his partner as “friend.” He was already out there so the honesty he expressed was explicit. What was interesting to me is that he didn’t go into a deep explanation about a potentially negative implication but she wasn’t disrespectful and he met her truth with his.
This don’t always work in practice, but I agree there’s a certain peace to finding your truth in others.
