"White supremacist Coast Guard lieutenant arrested for terrorism plot "

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/02/21/they-hate-white-males-norwegian-mass-murderer-inspired-coast-guard-officer-plotting-terror-feds-say/?utm_term=.d811946bdd7b

"When federal agents searched the Maryland home of the U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant accused of plotting to kill politicians and journalists in a quest for a “white homeland,” they didn’t just find guns and ammunition.

They also turned up a locked briefcase filled with more than 30 bottles of what appeared to be human growth hormone, a drug used by athletes and bodybuilders who believe that it augments muscle mass and boosts speed. Neither the supplements nor the opioid pills, also seized by authorities, had been amassed on doctor’s orders.

Christopher Paul Hasson found inspiration for beefing up elsewhere — in a 1,500 page manifesto prepared by Anders Behring Breivik, the right-wing Norwegian extremist who killed 77 people, many of them children, in a bomb-and-gun rampage in 2011 that he called his “martyrdom operation.”"

The HGH is new but these attacks happen often enough that this story probably won't even be around next week. This one was literally stockpiling steroids to go on a murder spree.

Slightly off topic, did we ever get a motive for that Vegas shooting?

Not really a TV watcher, but I'm on the web and this is the first time I've seen it mentioned. Makes me wonder how widespread this stuff really is.

Paul Greengrass just did a film on the attack for Netflix (Hard pass).

Malcolm Nance has a lecture available on YT that puts the attack in the context of the larger global shift to the right and Russia's propaganda war on the US.

At least in America.

He just walked through the island killing people, actually stopped a few times because he assumed the law would have got there in time, but they were still dealing with the bomb he had set off in Oslo earlier, so he just kept killing even though he felt he had already made his "point."

He's one of the most sincerely evil people alive.

"The inspiration that he drew from Breivik, 40, illuminates the global exchange of extremist ideas binding apparently lone-wolf actors who portray themselves as martyrs for “Western civilization,” under siege, they claim, by immigrants and elite opinion makers espousing multiculturalism"

So why did he choose to insert himself into a more diverse and metropolitan area?

If the problem is loss of white identity and immigrants, I'm pretty sure you can join a Celtic language class, chant Wiccan spells, listen to death metal, and move to Nebraska.

just on the issue of illegality/criminality alone...terrorism is a greater offense than filing a false police report. and it should be covered as such.

*every* extremist murder in 2018 was carried out by a right wing culprit.

hate groups reached a record level in 2018.

yet you wouldnt know any of this is the serious threat/epidemic that it is because the people responsible for delivering our news would rather prioritize stories with higher entertainment value.

he doesnt determine priority of coverage.

this is like saying rashida tlaib is to blame for the press bothsidesing the civility debate because she 'gave them just what they need' when she said we need to 'impeach that motherfucker'.

or activists are to blame for the press putting restaurant 'harassment' on par with the child separation policy.

once again...dont let these people off the hook for doing a shitty job. bullshit elevation and false equivalence shouldnt be their business model. centering this on jussie would just be ignoring the much broader historical trend that has operated independent of him.

You can critique them (and yes you have energy to do that as we know from here) but any "establishment" (news media, etc.) are going to do what they feel like doing/usually do.

Ex: if President Obama or Hillary Clinton were President, the media usually would make some negative left-wing situation become a "craze", "feeding frenzy" and "keep the pressure on" etc. in whatever chance that they could question President Obama, President Hillary Clinton

For Trump or George W. Bush, etc.?

They address stuff but they'll back off after push back from Trump or Bush.

Is that right? "Should" the press respond differently to people in the same office?

but....

What are they usually/probably going to do?

They helped trump get as far as he did and refuse to connect the dots between all the very real and constant violence and straight up domestic terrorism from right wing extremists that are embolden by the rhetoric of mainstream sources like Fox and The GOP

trump literally told second amendment people to take care of Hillary so of course multiple terrorist were found with lists of names Fox News and trump tell people to hate

he encourages violence at his rally's and it's nothing to the mainstream media.

bc i they are the ones that do the uneven reporting but it's what gets the clicks

it's a reflection of society as a whole

Trump has been able to dominate the news cycle off pure idiocy

i'm still putting a blame on the media bc they are complicit as fuck but they media trends have them competing for the same clicks

this is a much bigger story with way less mystery...it sounds pretty open and shut

the media would be galvanized around calling out the growing threats to prominent members of the media.

yet just a week or so ago a journalist was physically attacked at a trump rally and the prevailing coverage was about the change in his wall slogan and discrepancies in crowd size claims.

which is why we have breaking news alerts related to serious crimes and terrorism.

the media has engaged in fearmongering for much less. this is a case where its actually warranted.
