"Poll question: Are concerts too expensive now?"

Michael McDonald is playing The Belly up in San Diego in may and tickets are $90 bucks. Is that too much?

2 Day passes to Coachella were $178.75 in 2005 - now they are $400.

Jim Gaffigan cost $50 to see in 2006, it's $85 now.

Are ticket prices too high? Or have they always been expensive and I'm just not "into it" as much as I was in the past??

Or was it "affordable" in the past - and now is sold more as a "luxury?"

I definitely see concerts and then check the price and be like...”I’ll just play the album really loud at the crib”

than the year of your original price point. Between that and inflation that explains most of the price hike.

I know you said concerts and not music festivals but you get the point...

2005
it was two day and 5 tents

2018 its

Id say that's justified

With the bullshit fees the price is usually significantly more expensive.

I just bought Roots tickets and they went from $55 to $75 with fees. That's almost 40% of the fucking ticket price.

I'm going down to the actual physical box office to get tickets so I pay the $2 processing fee and not that $15 dollar one.
Unless it's a show I know is gonna sell out right away, I am not trying to buy tickets online.

The so-called tastemakers wanna find ways to make these events more exclusive for a specific clientele.

In 2005, the average artist wasn't playing those events. Now, all of the "Pop" artists, including rappers who are somewhat on a popular uptick/swing, are performing.

SMH

To answer your question directly

No, I don't think it's the cost of the actual tix

it's the resale market and fees that are ridiculous

Never understood why I have to pay a fee for an electronic tix?

IRT Coachella...here's the 2005 lineup;

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://i.pinimg.com/736x/a0/20/6e/a0206e569026542eb44db1673b889720.jpg&imgrefurl=https://www.pinterest.com/pin/298645019036660542/&h=852&w=640&tbnid=Hsn_x-EhDukPxM:&q=coachella+2005+lineup&tbnh=160&tbnw=120&usg=AI4_-kQYpNpjwCbvqF5etA7aOHT2X4p4bQ&vet=12ahUKEwiD7fv30OHfAhWpslQKHcKACGEQ9QEwAHoECAYQBg..i&docid=09NzqE4p8A0fXM&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiD7fv30OHfAhWpslQKHcKACGEQ9QEwAHoECAYQBg

Compared to 2017...the year I went;

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://media.pitchfork.com/photos/592f59ef7aede031a9f57c4c/master/pass/file&imgrefurl=https://pitchfork.com/news/70100-coachella-2017-lineup-radiohead-beyonce-kendrick-lamar/&h=827&w=620&tbnid=sHJkkDXHW8q77M:&q=coachella+2017+lineup&tbnh=160&tbnw=119&usg=AI4_-kQyi2p1MAjoP2gM2WSbHq9pnTo1Jg&vet=12ahUKEwi514iZ0eHfAhXp0FQKHURBATwQ9QEwAHoECAYQBg..i&docid=ug-G3MDQOR7EHM&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi514iZ0eHfAhXp0FQKHURBATwQ9QEwAHoECAYQBg

If I remember correctly, DAMN came out a couple of weeks before the festival

I was thinking of going to see Radiohead anyway...so I would have been happy to pay just $400 for the 3 days

on the resale market and after fees, it was over $600

No, I wouldn't pay $90 to see Michael McDonald

Somebody brought him out at a recent concert...I want to say it was Thundercat/Flying Lotus...he did a couple of songs

but he doesn't have the pipes anymore

it was cool.
