"Cord-cutters: Watching less TV"

have you found that over time you've just plain stopped really having the same diet for consuming shows/movies?

i know my habits have been streamlined, and i just feel weird sitting down to look at tv more than once a week. When i was younger i used to BE the tv guide, now i just watch a show whenever. i'd probably get rid of netflix if my SO didn't watch it.

The last thing i watched was Luke Cage, and before that i hadn't touched it for 8 months.

my wife and I watch an average of 3 hours of TV a week.
Mostly ratchet TV: Black ink, love and hip hop, How to get away with murder.

i've been catchign up on season 2 of atlanta, but i still only watch 1-2 eps a week. we hardly have time to watch TV, so i'm glad we cut the cord. cable was just money wasted.

Netflix, Hulu w/ HBO, Sling, and Amazon Prime. Antenna for sports on the local stations.

With some exceptions we do tend to get behind on shows and then blow through them at our leisure.

Called Comcast to change plans. Talked them down a little over $100 per month. May reduce it even further once I figure out the best way to keep them premium up/down Internet speeds we currently get as part of the package.

As much as I want to be around for all of the great programming that is occurring these days, I want to exercise, read, and be out in them volunteering streets more.

NetFlix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime may be all we need. I'll just have to watch Showtime and HBO shows later than I normally would. I am considering getting the HBO Now subscription though since it's less than $20 per month.

Just found this and am about to go through it to see if it helps because I'm not cutting it out altogether. Not at all!

Since we only watch sports live, we tend to watch games when they're on. We rarely watch scripted TV shows on the night they're broadcast. Most of our shows get the on-demand treatment.

I recently found myself around cable tv again for an extended amount of time. I started watching the Scientology channel and MSNBC. I like that Martin plays back to back so often, but New Looney Tunes is defamation and the commercials on all networks are much too crafty and catchy now.

Everything has been figured out except how to live.

Still use the converter box plugged into a monitor to watch the games.

prolly watch the same amount but it’s wxacrly what I want to watch and when I want to watch it.

One good thing about the Steelers missing the playoffs is no emotional investment in who wins in the playoffs. If I miss it, I just miss it.

I got young kids too. So watching anything is a chore unless it’s their show.

back when i had cable, like 10 years ago and maybe for a couple months on and off after we would just have it on with nothing to watch. just channel surf.

i think i watch too much tv now. its mostly youtube clips. i do need to reduce that and be more productive with my time.

I used to spend as much time LOOKING for something to watch as I spent watching tv.

Now I've got maybe 5 channels I really watch and Youtube. If I don't find anything right away, I leave the TV alone and find something else to do.

If I'm in the mood for a movie, I'll go to Netflix or Prime.

but I missed on a lot so I would listen to the same few albums

When iTunes dropped i spent more money but it was specifically what I wanted to hear.

It’s been so long since I had cable and when I go to my fam for the weekend and they have cable I realize there is a lot of shit I have no interest in. I always end up using Netflix or whatever that thing isn’t called that has the cable shows you can watch immediately on their network servers.

Unless it’s sports I can’t see any reason for someone to have cable.

Half of it is reality TV shows anyway. Now I only really turn it on if it's a show I'm interested in watching.

Then when that season is over or if I have down time I'm usually watching YouTube videos of either IT training or hobbies

...it's seems like all the good tv programming is gone from regular tv stations (NBC, ABC, CBS, & Fox), I've never been a fan of sitting down to watch tv on my computer, and I still don't have a smart tv, just regular extended cable.

With Netflix taking the good scripted shows, it's become more of reality & celebrity (needs work to keep their bills paid) shows fest, I probably watch maybe five out of a hundred of these shows (anything that deals with Chef Ramsey, The Braxtons Family Values, Property Brothers, Storage Wars, People's Court, & Growing Up Hip-Hop) but most of the shows I watch heavily I've been watching for years and most of those are cartoons & anime, the only shows I still look forward to that's still putting out new episodes that's not cartoons is NCIS: New Orleans, Dr. Bull, 9-1-1, Supernatural, Lethal Weapon, the new Magnum P.I., and that's it.

I've already changed up my cable plan & got rid of a few stations that I never watched like sports & TWC's/Spectrum's movie channel EpiX, to lighten up my bill a little; most of these channels are just now rerun type programming, and it's only so much of an old show you can watch over & over before it's just have no value to you anymore.

I usually have a few shows going at a time and lately I've been tending to just rewatch a lot of favorites like GoT, Sopranos, Breaking Bad etc.

What I don't do anymore is sit there endlessly channel surfing or watching some garbage just to have something on.

I dont really even save any money because I subscribe to pretty much every service. Which is kind of dumb. But I have no desire to ever go back to cable. Seems to out dated to me now.

loving it so far, saving about 100 a month I was giving towards cable. Seriously, my cable bill was 225 a month for cable, internet, phone bundle. I kept internet at 75 and youtube is 50 and get pretty much every channel I had before that I used anyways.

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FOX, FS1, FS2, ABC, NBC, CBS, NBC Sports, local sports networks (NESN and whatever channel the Celtics play on is called for Boston area), TNT, NBATV, MLB Network.

The pricetag is high at $50 and I wouldn't be surprised if in a year from now there is another price hike, but the key there is to find a buddy or family member who also wants it and you split it. If you open an account all you have to do is add their email as a family member and they have access to it when they log in with their email (rather than a shared log in a la Netflix). I split it with my Uncle so I pay $25/month.

One of my favorite features on YTTV is you can customize your channel guide so you can reorder channels and put your more watched channels at the top, group by category, and remove unwatched channels (Disney kids, Telemundo, Fox News, etc)

How many users can you have? If I have 2 TV’s with it in my house can I still share with someone in another house or would that knock one of the TV’s off it?

Also.. does it work with firestick?

If you have multiple TVs you can log in with the same user and it's no problem, it's basically 6 separate logins/emails.

Not positive on Firestick, I use my XBox when I'm streaming on my TV.

I think it's a new development but don't quote me on that.

We use our Roku to get YouTube TV. We had Sling at first, then switched.

I think I'll need a Firestick to go w/Hulu at least on my bedroom TVs but still .. looks to be a choice between YTTV and Hulu.

I signed up last year, and the best resolution they could do was 720p.

Kinda unacceptable.

I fully expect them to add another price tier for 4K like Netflix.

In response to Reply # 33

if anyone is limited to 720p, they should google around for full hd compatible devices or workarounds to force full hd resolution (you can finagle the display resolution or hardware specs reported to yt in some instances).

In response to Reply # 18

i signed up on monday and added mr robot to shows i want to record. it has all the episodes of season 4 except for episode 2. why?

i ended up buying the episode on google play because i want to keep watching the show. is this a known issue with youtube tv though?

anyone else on youtube tv, can you check if episode 2 is available to watch for you?

well i thought maybe the first episode was a 2 part episode. then i thought they skipped episode 2 and went straight to 3 as some sort of device for the show.

the title "payment required" didnt help lol i guess it ended up being true for me.

did so after your first reply. good to know its not a common thing on other shows at least.

due to the high balance i have of google play rewards i might actually keep youtube tv. my hope is i keep getting enough surveys that i have enough to pay for it without using any real money.

Wife asked about getting it again but when I told her it was $48 she balked.

We still watch all our shows thru kodi or Netflix.

I still have more shows than time right now.

Will probably get Hulu TV again for November or December. I have a new tv and haven’t found a reliable antenna for local channels.

I have a show or two that I follow, but a majority of stuff that I watched on tv was sports. That has dwindled with me over the years. I don’t care if I miss the games these days.

Youtube TV is great like others have said but at $50 its a little too expensive for my taste. I only stream on a couple of tv's and on my computer so i use Gears Reloaded, the best IPTV in the game. Great streaming, never had a major downtime situation and works wonderful with the Firestick.

After VaderStreams went down this summer i was looking for the next best alternative and Gears is it. My monthly costs is $32 on two tv's.

I found that my appetite for shows changed dramatically. Back then we lacked apps to keep up with stuff.

Pick a platform, figure out what you content you like, and crowdsource new shows to watch on your favorite streaming services.

Peep the Disney+ ESPN+ Hulu bundle on the internet.

I don't have as much time to watch shows at home so I stream or download yo watch in 10 minute chunks
