Okay, so I think Pandora is great for Questlove Supreme, exploring the music of indie artists and getting into musicians and genres that I know nothing about. However, when it comes to my favorites or the greats, like Marvin Gaye, Erykah, or D'Angelo?
Dis sh*t trash.
I swear, every time I get my hair done or go to a little event, someone is playing Pandora or someone's poorly curated Spotify playlist, and I am subjected to listening to what sounds like commercial radio or " for Beginners."
I think my braider was playing Nina Simone Radio this weekend and Pandora only played two popular Nina joints for the first 30 minutes.
I just put it on again to confirm my suspicions. These were the first few selections after the first Nina song played:
Etta James - At Last Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine Summertime - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong Otis Redding - A Change Is Gonna Come Nina's Blues - Nina Simone Etta James - Stormy Weather
This is basic.
To be fair, the songs became a little less predictable as time passed, though some didn't seem appropriate ("Your Heart Is As Black As Night" by Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa). Maybe that's because I quickly skipped through the first few selections?
Another observation: Pandora kept playing Billie and Etta rather than more Nina songs.

And far too often it’s only playing the singles.
I’ve got a Pete Rock station that I’ve had for YEARS that is decent but it took a long time to get it there. I feel like they added some new music in the last year or two so it’s gotten a little better. I only use it in the car sometimes these days.

I've had it for so many years that my liked songs are over 5k. when I just wanna rehear shit that will never get old to me I play that thumbprint station.
It also has a decent variety, I would like a Song from Cuban artist Silvio Rodriguez and that led me to Victor Jarra, not sure if I would have gotten to that as easily with out Pandora giving me similar songs.
It does repeat a lot of shit though.
I still ride with it cause I've had it so long.
