The infamous Mr. Scarf Hands (peace to Combat Jack) gets more in depth about his run in the biz Dude has always been a polarizing figure, but his main point when talking about the Nas IWW period was his desire to turn the GOAT from an underground lyrical miracle to a household name and he did it He said more or less that why shouldn't hip hop be in the same convo as country and pop music in terms of sales and recognition why should hip hop stay in the hood and in the gutter? Anyway we know how that turned out late 90's jiggy era was # 1 in sales over country, pop, all that shit That's his legacy Yes, he sneered at the "keep it real represent hip hop culture" movement was he right or wrong? He does share the blame for the sorry state of hip hop today Quest should've got into that

....in that Hip-hop can and should be as expansive as any other genre of music. Any genre that doesn't expand, bend, grow, etc is bound to get stagnant. ______________________________________________________________________________
the music had to sell or else it would be short lived. as much as we (old heads) tend to complain about it, there was a lot of good music that came out of the shiny suit era.
we can't ask the grammy voters or other mainstream outlets to cape for the music, but only sell 200k of an album.
