In the movies and the comics it's a nation completely free from european influence in any way whatsoever.

So often women, and in particular black women, are subject to standards that other groups of people don't hold for themselves, and it's bullshit. My irritation is not directed at you in particular, or even anybody in this post, just a generalized tiredness of having to live up to unreasonable expectations.

The hair thing I kinda really want to get into, but that's a whole nother post to be honest. Suffice to say, both men and women have these very deeply ingrained eurocentric standards when it comes to "natural" hair, and it's super disheartening to have to deal with those ideas.
