"my 8hr tribute to STATIC (Playa/Da Bassment Cru/Timbo/Aaliyah)"
the longest show/podcast i've done to date running at just over 8hrs, but still somehow not feeling like it's enough to tribute one of the biggest influences on my musical ear and journey: Stephen "Static" Garrett. the show highlights his prolific songwriting, his many demos & reference tracks for other artists & his unmatched vocal harmonies. this year is the 10yr anniversary of his sudden passing at the hands of the idiots at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky on February 25, 2008.
the tracks mostly consist of his many works with Timbaland, Ginuwine and Aaliyah (primarily as a songwriter), a handful of his solo unreleased joints, a grip of demo/reference tracks he recorded for other artists & his crazy dope vocal work as part of Playa.
i wax lyrical in b/w the sets, dropping some knowledge on his life, work and relationships. his work with Aaliyah in particular is something i liken to the Leroy Osbourne & Sade vocal r/ship, with Leroy being the vocal shadow of Sade (Leroy is the male vocal you usually hear accompanying most Sade tunes).

the past 12 months has been all podcast style mixes like this (CONFESSIONS OF A CURLY MIND is the name of the show) so i been tryin to get more n more thorough with it. i figure if i do these inflated epic style shows, i won't ever have to do another 'tribute' to the same artist ever again lol.
