1)the whole thing seemed to be pushed behind the scenes by funkmaster flex,jayz,a few others...that meek wouldnt publicly say drake dont write. maybe it was just a bet

2)after drake took the bait, meek & flex apparently was both trying to get the reference tracks and/or quentin miller audio for meek's response.

3)drake coming wit the quick reply, and living in the social media/millennial era where battles are somehow on a clock now (yet ether was 6 months after takeover... and deadly), meek wasnt ready to respond that fast. and i guess still didnt have the audio.

he also said he was on tour at the time and couldnt get in a proper studio or really focus.

the studio is legit i guess, cuz the 1st version of the last response had horribly mixing and u could barely hear. (but then the question is why not just go to a real studio). in the end the response was rushed+bad audio+no good lines=meek hold 2 L's.





the strategy was relatively same as pusha- bait, then come back with the embarrassing facts. except they couldnt get a hold of the damaging evidence lol

music in general is so disposable + short attention spans + 24/7 news/social media outlets has changed things. Its nearly an automatic disqualification if you don't respond in a couple of days. Nas would've lost automatically before Ether could drop if that battle took place today

I always felt like dude was an interloper in (B)lackness, but folks so hooked on that "one drop rule, we all the same" stuff that these kinds of things go unseen in plain sight. Personally I've called that biracial or non-white in most cases that I've seen, but it definitely means a person has at least "one drop", does it not? My point was that anyone who subscribes to a "one drop rule, we all the same" philosophy will be liable to letting his questionable behavior slip by unchecked. I suppose I could've said "one black parent = black, we all the same", but given the context of my comment, I don't think this should've been difficult to understand. If you need that distinction tho, go with a mental edit. back in 2008 they were doing a whole 'Jim Crow Couture' line and Drake was modeling for it.

The part I have issue with is he requested the blackface in a photo shoot with a white photographer and didn't see how bad the optics could be on it.

The Canadian disconnect.

He doesn't fully grasp Black American History. I'd even give him a 'little' benefit of the doubt if it were a requirement of the shoot. Like 'I need to get this check' desperation benefit of the doubt but even that wouldn't go too far...would just make the pic make more sense but he ASKED for that imagery.

It did not help that I was predisposed to the hard 'ER' video clip of him either.

As much as I dig some of his catalog, I peeped looooooooong ago, dude has identity issues with race, a resentment of his dad and some of his race issues/missteps are due to his resentment of him and hella insecurities around all of it.

As of my writing this at 1:30 am EST 5/31, he gave an explanation about 2 hrs ago.
Here's why I asked, because I didn't see what Drake's commentary was supposed to be. I hadn't found any explanation of it, and no one in here had been able to specifically state it. Nick, Affion (and Nas)'s commentary was very clear. They weren't just randomly dawning blackface... just as the actors in Bamboozled weren't. Drake's came off to me like he just chose blackface to look controversial in a photo shoot w/o having a message or even making it clear that he even understood the historical significance of it. It's kinda interesting that NOW he has a reasonable explanation (he has to for the sake of his brand and his paper tho). Anyway, I wasn't being sarcastic at all with my question. I really didn't see what Drake's point was supposed to be.

Did I make an argument that Pusha Crossed a line or went too far or places that Drake didn't go?

My point was that they weren't effective things to diss Drake with. Ghostwriting diss didn't work for Meek Mills (and is silly when you work with Kanye). I can't see how anyone scores points about making fun of someone's boys MS, Kid Cudi's depression, Nas's baby Mama, etc.
