I managed to cut some dead weight, and I was on the upswing. Took a weekend trip and went off the grid to get myself together. Got some rest, and felt great. The day I came back here they come again with the bullshit. It's almost as if the people in my life can't do anything for themselves. I've become more and more isolated from some of my family, and honestly, I don't feel bad about it. Something's got to give. Seriously.

this 2 week break from the kids can't come fast enough
wife and I are robots right now. That new Ali Wong comedy was way too spot on. My wife laughed a little too hard at the jokes. Had me feeling a little salty but at the same time I enjoy seeing her laugh.
Got some good news on daycare. They quote is $387 a week after the family discount. $16K for the year with summers off. Imagine what that money could do if invested over these next 3 years? smh
Potty training. ugh. We are going to get it together, that's another $$10 off if she can be trained by August. no pressure tho, she will be ready when she is ready.
I need to find some friends in Charlotte. Lost 2 homies in car crashes last year in Charlotte.

And what I really mean is: I'm done going to networking events and Meetup gatherings, unless it looks really interesting.
'Til then, I'ma be that chick going cruising around concerts and festivals solo dolo.
Meetup groups is how-to-meet-new people "training wheels" for grown-ups, and iCan't.
I will continue to make an effort to build with interesting/cool people I may serendipitously encounter but dassit.
I'm done with the contrived shit. Like, I get the wisdom behind being intentional and going to places to meet people but shit is exhaustive and not organic.
I miss the effortlessness with which I made friends in middle school.
I've made peace with the fact that creating close friendships as a 30-something is hard, especially when you 1. Still look like a kid 2. Have a history of social problems 3. Seemingly everyone around you is pretty set socially and is out makin' babies and getting married. People really don't have time to build and connect...

But seriously, I can make it work here but it could take a couple more years to get into the groove of normalcy.
Detroit can be a bit insular, and even though this is my hometown community, I don’t have the kind of ties people might expect for a native. Long story.
Through college, work and internships, I lived all over the place in the last 12 years: D.C., Chicago, ATL, NYC, Birmingham, South Bend...and another region that’s even worse than South Bend.
Unsurprisingly, I was better off on the East Coast. Trying to move back (and stay there for at least five years) later this year
