I can plug in via USB and the laptop uses the phone's network connection. I have Sprint's unlimited data, so I take full advantage of this. I've had it for quite a few years now. Was $7 one-time. The wifi share (that Sprint charges $30+/mo for) used to work on the older 3G phones, but they shut that down on the newer phones.
