I watched the first clip... then started the 2nd clip... then my disdain kicked in and I couldn't/didn't feel like finishing it... Having sat through and listened to the stories my elders told me about the struggles THEY went through..recounting struggles EYE went through as recently as the 80's...when I see stories like this my threshold for outrage just isn't peaked...and I know that's an issue in and of itself...a sort of complacency...
But at the same time....I can't help but ask .... did she go LOOKING for a confrontation with the white girl AFTER she was awakened??? I've had friends arrested and detained for hours, all because they didn't have their ID on them when they decided to walk to the corner store.

The only answer police HAVE to give you is whether or not you're being detained or are free to go. I don't make these rules fam...but I try to be WELL aware of them in this day & age.

As for the white chick, she got the results she wanted. She got the Black girl harassed by the cops. Got a public record of the interaction and NOW she's got a case to claim that she feels "threatened" because of how the Black girl put all of this out on the internet. My point is still that we got to be smarter about how we proceed in certain situations. This is one of those situations.

My post is ALL about the showing ID.....not the obvious bullshit that lead up to that point. We STAY getting gaffled up over this refusal to show our ID. Of COURSE it's fcked up...OF COURSE it's racist...OF COURSE alladat.... but the fact remains....it's THE tool that they (the police) have as license to GO IN on our asses. We need STOP playing into that. There's no winning against the Show Me Your ID angle.... Even the laws as they are set up now STILL provide the police with the upper hand.

...de-escalation is the #1 goal. Always should be a priority for us, and the possible repercussions are too grave.
As far as what to do about this, there needs to be pressure on people making false statements to the police in order to use them as weapons, as well as pressure on the cops to be public servants, and not a private security force.
I think we're talking about two related, but different things.
PS. Was really just asking about the being stopped thing. I remember this came up on OKP before, and some dudes here were like their only interactions with the cops was being pulled over a time or two.
