"Right looks outside for new allies, Left looks within for new enemies."
Wed May-02-18 09:52 AM by Jon

I feel this is the main thing keeping right-wing politics in the game, and stunting left-wingers from dominating and getting big things done for humanity.

The Right focuses on their goals, while the Left is always looking for a new pariah to have a collective hissy fit over.

Or just pretend politics is, like, sports but important?

Because it's a pretty needless analysis that doesn't consider the possibility that some people actually believe in things and want to gain political power in order to help people.

but politics *is* a sport. anyone who doesnt recognize it at this point is a liability.

repubs win because they play as team (and cheat). its that simple. they could personally hate a candidates guts, know he is corrupt, etc. but they still vote that r as long as the candidate is carrying ideological water for the squad. they know the only way they survive socially is to galvanize politically.

and if dems/liberals/progressives/indies continue to hold their own to much higher standards and abandon them over micro policy positions or generally minor personality affectations, then we will stay fractured and continue to lose.

thats the reality.

When it's clearly just your team vs my team and this is done on both sides

I'm sure that there's people who want to make change but that always takes a backseat to the team mindset

More concerned with memberships and sorting entire human beings in good and bad boxes, than actual goals and being ready to work with anyone anytime goals align.

Instead of pushing and scheming for things we want, like the right does, we spend all our energy gossipping and sorting ppl.

I just find it funny that the collective 'we'/society is really riding this 'accountability' wave hard. Is there NOT a 'forgiveness' component? When is THAT wave gonna come, where we call out people's bull$hit but also recognize when they are/have made strides that either help us progress or at least not be an embarassment to our community/diminish our social currency.

You have a professional golfer who CLEARLY appears to be B/black, drop the 'cablinasian' bomb vs. the (former) head of a chapter of the NAACP who was CLEARLY W/white who is DYING to be black and now is braiding hair for a living.

That $hit don't make sense to me - the vitriol being spewed at Rachel-cuzz has had it's time. Now give her a job somewhere, let her teach black kida art..I dont give a fuck.

Tiger Woods can't teach anybody anything AFAIC.

If 'race is a social construct that white capitalists created' blah blah...cool. Let's handle shit based on that.

I'm not trying to forgive R. Kelly/Bill cause that $hit is reprehensible on a HUMAN level and exponentially so because black women were victims (moreso Kellz than Cos, but nevertheless).

But I'm not tripping off Issa Rae's (blk wmn + azn men) bullshit, or Ye's bull$hit, or about ostracizing other blk people over little $hit that - if people were to try and be more objective - you could actually wrap your head around.

Sometimes your ally doesn't look like you. I'm all for inclusion, some people are 'toxic' and some just have a 'runny nose' that'll clear up over time.

So they don't really have room for anymore. So all that's left to do is try and convince people to join in their hate.

Anyway beyond that specific instance of idiocy this entire premise is ... simplistic ? At best. Sounds like something Kanye would say.

And the more they entrench their power via rigged elections/districts/courts/judiciaries the more they shed off any need to faux inclusion

That they can persuade anyone that the right has their best interests in mind or that they have any good ideas worth digging through their shit sandwich of toxic ideology is a testament more to dumb people thinking they're smarter than they actually are, than anything else.

Even trying to compare the right to the left does a disservice to intellectual thought because they're not coequal schools of thought or government or culture.

People say be open to the anti abortion types ... that's literally a life or death situation to many people
DACA, policing, funding for social services, and on and on. Those that aren't in the margins are safe to say let's find middle ground. While MANY without a voice are holding on by a thread.

Amazon right now is holding off on expanding jobs until the city council holds off on using a tax to fund schools. The absolute wealthiest of us are corroding society and the future. And many of us that feel we should compromise don't know how close to the margins we are.

work with Tommy to save a drowning child on Monday, shoot down Tommy's request for a laser-guided bazooka license on Tuesday, vote against Tommy's proposal to pollute the drinking water on Wednesday, rally support for Tommy's efforts to house the homeless on Thursday, and buy some haddock from Tommy's family-owned seafood stand on Friday.

The right seems to grasp this so much better than the left, who are more concerned with putting ppl in either the good or bad pile, and struggle with the old concept of separating the person from the position, or the sin from the sinner.

while the left will attack a lefty for not supporting medicare for all, not using the most cutting edge prefix/pronoun, not being the perfect 2018 social liberal back in 2010...

the right is leaving welcome mats out for criminals, pedophiles, racists, disgruntled defectors...anyone willing to wear the jersey.

we find ways to choke ourselves out while they find ways to breathe new life.

John McCain is the one of the most hated Republicans. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker have to fall back because they aren't extreme enough and they don't stand a chance in their primaries

There are some GOP primaries going on that are nasty as hell. An extremist on one side challenging a "standard" conservative on the other. And the extremists are surging

The Tea Party takeover. Remember that?

moderate repub politicians have been getting steadily pushed out of the party over the last decade. this has also been their most dominant cycle since the great depression.

which highlights my point.

because moderate repub *voters* still closed ranks and voted for more extreme candidates who still rocked that r. because its still better to them than voting for a dem.

meanwhile some dem voters stay home or throw away meaningless third party votes because a dem is too centrist or 'neoliberal' on like 2 issues.

i dont see how anyone can dispute this especially after 2016.

Maybe more so.

Especially if you look only at 2016. You think it was leftist wing of the democratic party that voted for Gary Johnson and gave him 4.5 million votes (3.2% of the total? Jill Stein (the alt for Dems, I guess) received just 1.4 million (1% of the total).

Clinton received as many votes as Obama 2012. So did they really stay home?

What specifically about 2016 are you talking about.

It's not as if they're growing or winning by numbers.
The left isn't down on numbers.
They've won by gaming and entrenching an already rigged system.
There's little that more numbers or better candidates can do about that wholesale.

I too have fallen prey to it, and it embarrasses me to have been so short sighted and small minded.

The ultimate goal is win, and we won't win if every candidate has to have this super perfect highly informed record.

Support good candidates, and support their efforts to genuinely grow and learn. *shrugs*

The tea party kicking out Republicans who were not crazy enough, is not looking for enemies within ?

So it wasn't the cheating that was already mentioned or leaning on racism and changing the rules, keeping right wing politics in the game, it's the focus on goals. Like the way they are accomplishing so much with the three branches of govt they control.

No hissy fit from the right over Boehner when he was speaker or Paul Ryan now before he retires. Everyone is happy and accepted on the right as they work together.

Even when Obama was in office, talk radio would spend as much time shitting on McConnel and Ryan as they did Obama, for their lack of 'conservative principles'. They're quick to not claim and shit on aforementioned RINOs. Lifelong republicans like Comey and Mueller are now deep state liberals, and now the former litmus test of conservative purity is really now just how much you are willing to defend Trump. Even the talk radio assholes have fallen in line on this. Guys like Mark Levin will criticize Trump, but are careful not to too hard out of fear the trumpians will turn on him. Or even look at Steve Bannon. NOBODY followed that fool out the door.

The right might jump anyone in who hates liberals, or Hillary, or is sick of PC shit, but right now their stay comes down to Trump.

And a way to avoid political violence. The left is trying to avoid having liars, bullies, and cheats destroy what's left of our sanity. You can see from all of these people giving Kanye a pass or just mocking his absurd statements with irony and satire that we are looking to keep laughing through his lies and not violently attack him for disrespecting us.

goals, cuz the racist/religious bent makes blind loyalty easier. So they're much more aggressive.
The left establishment sells itself as not-the-Right, so they don't meet the needs of the left voters. Hence they end up playing defense against their own people.
