**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

LOL. I’m going to steal that phrase the next time I want to be snarky about *those* types.
But seriously, I’m still disappointed because I wanted to see Erykah and a few others.
There are other opportunities to see her this summer but not at the price range and value offered by AfroPunk. I’d be able to get close enough to the stage (no assigned seating) and shop and support some dope vendors. Finally, this was going to be my long overdue trip back to NYC. I used to live in the city and I am considering a move back there or to D.C.
An OKP mentioned the Summer Spirit Festival in Columbia, MD last night and I was excited until I saw the prices for the seat I wanted.
Erykah’s coming to Detroit but I don’t want to pay to see her AND Nas, especially in an assigned seat while I’m rolling solo. I’m in my early 30s and I still get mistaken for a teen. Being by myself, possibly next to an empty seat, is going to lead to more self-consciousness.
I prefer the open seating/standing format of AfroPunk.

Honestly, I happen to be the kind of person who cannot endure outdoor festivals, summer concerts, or large crowds. The amount of jostling I'd have to do to get close enough to the stage to see Erykah Badu blink would repulse me to no end; I might fall ill.
I went to an Afropunk during this new ticketed era and there seemed to be very little enforcement of the rules governing entry or re-entry. After the initial surge, things got lax and people were hopping over rails and barriers without any static from security. This year rules might be more stringent, who knows.
Everything has been figured out except how to live.

and u can bring chairs
but dont quote me/def check with them on that
its not "open" like afropunk tho. or u can still get into afropunk if u and your neosoul edm afrobeat band submit to be in battle of the bands. they are still recruiting

The Columbia Fest does have open seating but it's too damn far away from the stage. The venue is pretty large so that's a factor I can't easily dismiss.
Unfortunately, I ain't got no neosoul edm afrobeat band so there's no gaining entry that way.
I'm seriously considering sneaking in. I am long overdue for a summer NYC trip so I will enjoy myself even if I can't gain entry.
And sheeittt. I still have my press pass from my news reporting days in NYC...We shall see.

i finally saw badu in july. it was just her and it was assigned seating. i went solo, only awkward thing was most people stayed seated for most of the show so i feel that killed the vibe.
girl who sat next to me kept getting up, the last 30 minutes or so i said whatever and stayed up.
i considered doing the detroit show, i wouldnt mind seeing nas but it made more sense to visit family if i was going to travel for a concert.

Black creatives from all over the world are headed to Brooklyn this weekend (Aug. 25-26) for this year’s edition of the Afropunk Festival. With plenty of good vibes to go around, R&B mainstays like Miguel, Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu are bound to shut down Commodore Barry Park.
There’s also music’s rising acts like Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caesar and Duckwrth ready to do the same. The festival has released the official schedule for this weekend’s activities, which also include spellbounding DJ sets from a variety of acts like Coco & Breezy, Just Blaze and KATRYNADA.
Sadly, some set times clash (JPEGMAFIA and Smino on Saturday, Pusha T clashes with Ibeyi on Sunday). No worries, we’ve listed all the acts, their set times and stages in one place.
Check out the official schedule below.

For the few here who might care, AfroPunk partnered with Lyte to sell some last-minute tickets and to help people who changed their plans sell the tickets they purchased months ago. The event was sold-out.
I copped a Weekend General Admission pass yesterday and I will be flying in this weekend.
