To get your prototype more or less fully fleshed out and then decide if it’s viable enough to A.work with a dev or B. find a platform that will do much of the coding for you (but honestly I’m not sure such a thing exists specifically for apps) / get your hand dirty.
If it’s a survey type of app you’re trying to build you may be able to use something like game salad and build an app instead of a game. I’m just not sure it has the database components you’ll likely need.
5. "let's say you pitched your idea to a developer" In response to Reply # 4
what's to stop them from stealing your idea?
i Google'd the same question and most responses said not to worry about it because 9/10 your app idea is sucks and the developer wouldn't want it. other people said a developer wouldnt risk their reputation stealing your (probably shitty) app idea.

...(see: Facebook).
The reality is that many developers probably don't know shit about marketing, advertising, sales, financing, investors, etc. All of those things are crucial to a successful product. Facebook wasn't successful because it was a technological wonder, but rather for it's clever marketing and advertising (remember when it was only for college students?).
8. "FIRST OF ALL...why do you need an app?" In response to Reply # 0
apps are a whole other beast AND they require a lot of governance/upkeep
before you go native I would strongly suggest researching mobile web options (that is a site that is essentially just a website but it has a good amount of the functionality you would find in native apps but without the super bells and whistles)
