If there's some kind of attack it just makes it even easier for him to string the masses along.
While I'm very skeptical of the claims that GW Bush intentionally ignored intelligence about 9/11, it's nonetheless very true that Bush's approval shot from about 45 to about 85. Trump pays a lot of attention to his poll numbers, and he spends a lot of time comparing himself to other presidents at 4 in the morning. When you look at Bush's approval ratings over time, the jump in September '01 is glaringly obvious.
I have absolutely no doubt that Trump is crass enough to view the fomenting of terrorism as a political tactic.

9 months into his presidency, Bush was already worried about his approval numbers so he allowed a major attack? Nah.

US Presidents/CIA are directly connected to the assassinations of countless foreign leaders, domestic black leaders, etc. I put nothing past anyone in Washington.

It’s bigger than him. You really think W was the decider?
Makes me think about that Michael Moore film where they showed business leaders tell Reagan to hurry the duck up when he was giving a speech late in his presidency. Presidents are like Roger Goodell.. even a President as crazy as Trump.
Do you really think Trump decided not to lock up Hillary? Other folks were prolly like ”nigga, we got real shit to push thru, you better tweet about it and get started on these tax cuts and welfare reform”

Which he has in remarkable supply.
To be clear, I'm not saying that I think the Trump team is planning anything here, or even trying to instigate anything specific. All I'm saying is that Trump knows that any kind of attack on the US would help his political fortunes, so he isn't at all inclined to guard against such a thing.

and we had no idea?
Was there a real gas shortage in the 70’s?
My FIL was in the navy at the time and said once they got out over the horizon there was a sea filled with oil tankers. They were waiting until the price of a barrel of oil hit a certain number and then the tankers came in with the oil.

gutted state department. reversing diplomatic precedence from past administrations. pulling out of internationally accorded policy initiatives. pulling out of multinational trade pacts. generally being a pariah to the western international alliance.
ceding american leadership on the global front is basically our official stance now.
anyone who still thinks trump is earnestly trying to act in the countrys best interests (even in a misguided way), isnt paying attention.
