Having a cig in the morning coupled with morning breath coupled with coffee breath

There is no amount of mouthwash and toothpaste that will take care of that.

real talk.

but, its kinda crazy, I was primed to start smoking essentially.

when I was 10 we would roll up coffee grounds in paper towels and smoke that.

when i was 13 my best friend at the time would boost ciggs and we would smoke em' while listening to Bone Thugs N Harmony

when I was 14 I discovered bidis

when I was 15 I started buying loosies and having a cigg a day after school

when i was 18 I bought my first pack legally

I kept going until i was....27?

i have not had a cigarette in....fuck, nearly 9 years? I think?
But I'm still using lozenges, gums, sprays, etc. I just love nicotine and its a nice passive reward to have a constant dose of nicotine while I work at my desk all day.

we had this spot called the mountain (actually a small cliff/hill) and we would climb to the top and try to smoke them. Me, my cousin and her friend.

My friends brother caught us and said he was going to tell their mom so I ran home and told my mom first. I snitched.

She ended up getting her ass beat and since I was the youngest I got off light.

tried a cigarette one more time when I was 22 and almost threw up. Probably because I hit it like it was weed.

didn't really inhale but let the smoke in my mouth. Nasty as fuck but whatever. My parent smoked so smoke was always around. Later I took a few puffs more and one time messing with my mom grabbed one and played practiced smoking rings in front of a hall mirror in junior high teasing my mom. She had a fit but started laughing and showed me how to blow rings lol but told me I better not do that shit anymore.

I always said why cant I, you do, and she always answered well when we began that was before we knew about it causing cancer etc etc

I’m being serious. These companies throw parties and give away free cigarettes

Also. One time I was out with my wife and a woman asked me if smoked cigarettes. I thought she was trying to bum a cig but she was giving packs away for free.

They been doing that shit for years now.

I don’t smoke but sometimes bars have drink reps who give out free drinks.

I would think the taste/cost would be the determining factor when it comes to changing brands.

It’s all about getting people to use your product.

Why do you think they give free perfume and cologne samples?

Free samples at the food court?

iTunes lets you here 20 seconds of a song for free...

You samn sure don’t get people to try your shit the first time by charging a premium.

i started smoking reds because...well shit I don't know, we just did.

but, through the years I switched brands and it mostly came down to just experimenting with what works

marlboro reds - marlboro lights - marolboro ultra lights - parliament lights - top rolling - bugler rolling - bali shag rolling - drum rolling - american spirit yellow

all of those brand shifts took about 20 years

You're out at night, reach for your pack of Brand X and, damn, had the last one thirty minutes ago. "Hey man, what're you carrying?" Next thing you know, you realize Parliaments are pretty similar to American Spirit blue packs but they burn a little faster so they don't consume so much of your day. Next thing you know, you've got a backup pack for when you're at a bar that sells smokes but doesn't carry Spirits, or at least not the brand you look for.

After a year or so of transitioning from the Spirits to the Parliaments, you realize you're still spending the same amount of money for slightly less cigarette, you're on the job and forgot to stop for a pack at the station before work, so you head out to the break spot and ask what someone's got. Reds. Damn, Cowboy Killers! But you take a hit and, woo, that hits you like the Spirits used to when you first started. So you go buy a pack of Reds and try rolling with those, but it's too hot to handle for you over a whole pack, especially now that you're up to about a pack a day.

Your dad smokes Wildhorses, real budget shit, and he's staying with you for a spell so you alternate between the two and realize there's not much difference, so you give Wildhorse a real shot. Except in the circles you hang, you start to feel that old, "oh man, you still have an iPhone 4S" stigma from the eyes of everyone around you. No, I'm just being budget conscious, swear! But they really don't feel that good on your throat, and by now you're definitely on a pack a day if no up and over on a night you're really rolling with the homies, especially now that you quit smoking weed. Still need that oral fixation somehow to stave off the anxiety of being tipsy or finishing a long shift not sure if people think you're doing a good job as a bartender.

You keep reminiscing on that first hit of a Red, but first remember that the Spirits were your first love, and unlike every other cigarette those are still looked upon as "cool" by your generation. So you go back to them, only this time you're putting the cigs out halfway through and tucking them back in your pack. Hey, now I've got two packs for the price of one!, you say. Only now your pockets constantly smell like burnt motor oil and you're smoking a cigarette every 30 minutes instead of every hour, so nothing's changed except you're disgusting.

One day you're in the gas station picking up some Pringles and a 6-pack when you notice a silver box of Reds on the shelves; 72s. Quick google search while you pretend to scan the aisle for your favorite brand of pretzels or pretend you're actually considering a hot dog from the Buckys that gets robbed all the time and you've never once seen somebody buy one of those things; oh, same product, just shorter? You buy one, you go to work, you can finish one off in about a minute and get the same amount of buzz, or you can savor it and string it along for 4, 5 minutes if you want? For the next two years, all you know is Red 72s.

And if I still smoked, it'd still be all I know. I can bum a Marlboro Gold, or a Blue/Yellow spirit, or a Camel Blue, or a Marlboro Red regular, or a Parliament, or just about anything that isn't a Light (they actually make me feel physically sick and on the edge of vomiting due to their lack of flavor) but it took a lot of steps to realize what worked best for me, and I'd never spend my money on anything else unless it was legitimately healthy for you and, like, restored your lungs to 15 year old alpha dog status.

i think I held love for every brand of smoke except camel...those tasted like burning styrofoam

but ya know, at the end of my smoking I knew my days were numbered

I lived in SF and drank like a fish which in turn lead to me smoking a chimney

For a good span of five years I woke up with my temples pounding, heart pounding and without fail I would cough up the nastiest smelliest lung butter. I dont miss that shit. *pops lozenge*

but to be honest, I'm 29 and started smoking at 23, so it hasn't been as long a road for me.

I tried lozenges, but I found they just made me want cigarettes. Worse, they actually aggravated my throat the whole time they were in, which the 72s never did; they were actually a super calming experience and it's the one thing I truly miss, is that one one-to-five minutes per hour I could just sit and reflect and feel my nerves slide away. Plus I actually feel silly asking for a five-minute step off the floor moment now, which is actually sort of backwards since I can go out to the back patio and chill on the phone for five minutes and come back same as ever while anybody else is going to have to wash their hands and face, give their clothes a quick spray, suck a lemon and whatever else but hey, I feel stupid so there. lol.

is that whenever you lose your train of thought, the first thought is having a cigarette. you get home from work, crack open a beer, and halfway through you're losing a little a interest in the Youtube video or Jon Oliver clip you queued up just out of natural human compulsion to be a little bored by sitting around after a long work day; next thing you know, you're glancing at the clock and noticing you still have two hours to step out and head over to the corner store. ACTUALLY, if you wanna be #ForeverYoung and just stay up all night, it's a 24 hour store so you have as long as you can stay up thinking about cigarettes to go get another pack of cigarettes.

and then, if you're clever, you realize you only want that cigarette so badly because all you're thinking about is cigarettes, and then you go onto a forum where people are currently talking about cigarettes and you write out your thought process until you're not just thinking about the cigarette, but how silly the idea of the cigarette is, and then some guy on Jon Oliver says "illiterate" a lot and you realize you have to hit rewind to know what the hell is going on in the world and you're reminded of that need to smoke a cigarette whenever you're stressed out but at least you remember the whole thing isn't as great as your mind thinks it is anymore. so then, for another day, you don't smoke a cigarette. but you keep thinking about that time after work when you and everybody else was standing out back talking about the weird table or bar tab you had during your shift and you were the only person not smoking and how you really, really wanted one.

but then everybody'd think you're weak for bumming a smoke, because everybody else wants to quit too and keeps giving you dap for following through so far.

the dreams are far, far more vivid than when you quit weed.

47. ""I thought Black ppl smoke Newports.""
In response to Reply # 18

I started smoking cigarettes around age 20. It was during the summer b4 3rd year of college. I had also just started smoking weed regularly (aka daily) and a friend told me smoking cigs would extend and intensify the weed high. I was at The University of Chicago - an insanely white school (we were 4%). And I was running with a crew of white, Asian, Latinx folks. I was their Black friend. Anyway they smoked Marlboro reds and Parliaments. I bummed off them. I preferred the Reds so I bought some. But then someone had a Marlboro Medium and that was even better. So I smoked those all summer long. Somewhere during winter I was at a party and some white kid bummed a Medium from me and said with surprise, "I thought Black ppl smoke Newports?" And at that moment everything stopped and I recalled that my mom, uncle, and 3 aunts do indeed smoke menthols. And when I had bummed menthols from any of the black homies I did like them. So I laughed at the white kid's 'joke'. And yup I bought a pack of Newports. They were the bomb! Especially with weed. Or LSD. Or shrooms. And, white kids didn't like them so I gave away fewer smokes. It was a win-win. Except I coughed up blood that one time. So I switched to Newport Lights. But then my throat hurt. And by then it was 4th year and my roommate smoked Camel Lights. So did the theatre geeks I hung with bc I was heavily involved with the school's theatre program (note: I have never smoked more than half a pack per day and this was the peak). I liked 'em. That was 1997. I have a pack of Camel Lights on me right now. I have flirted with P-Funks (Parliaments/Lights) but I always come home to Camel Lights.

The guy I'm seeing smokes Marlboro Lights. It was nearly a dealbreaker. But he pretty and carries a monster in his jeans so I deal. But I used to judge the shit out of guys who smoke those. Lol

fuck you.

in my mid-20's... and it was newports.

before that it was just the occasional marlboro w/ a drink when you could still smoke in bars.

the hardest i've ever had to work to get back in cardo shape was after i quit smoking. wanted to die.

Started dating a girl that doesn't smoke about a year and a half ago and severely cut back on my day-to-day smoking, which eventually just led to more binge smoking on nights out with co-workers to make up for lost time. I was still smoking a pack a day, essentially, but I would have 14 smokes in the pack three days after buying them and then plow through all of them from 11PM to 2AM.

We've been working opposite schedules for about a year and it got to be a little too stressful for her so she recently hit me with the just be friends line about a month ago and I haven't purchased a pack of 72s or roll of tobacco since. I've had some cheat smokes out at night, but other than that no real pull.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread 'cause it feels nice to scan a thread like this and not really feel and longing for a smoke. I'm sure it'll come back really hard in a few months when I convince myself I've dropped the habit and one or two won't hurt me, but right today I feel pretty nice.

I wish smokes weren't so bad for you.

With herb, you have a nighcap and maybe a wake-n-bake. The rest of the day is no smoking.

With cigs, you're talking every 30-45 minutes it seems.

is some sad shit. The proudest Black man in the world will ask a KKK Nazi for a cigarette when they got that itch.

That walk over to strangers with shoulders hunched and that I’ll suck your dick” look in their eye follows by disappointment when the person says it’s their last one? Smh

I will admit to smoking blacks in college and one time I was in AC and a dude asked to get a hit off my Black like it was a blunt. I took a long hit then gave it to him and I think that was my last B&M.

I didn’t want to be that dude in a few years.

I can count on one hand how many times I've been "too high" in life, and that's including edibles and hash. I guess it balances out tho, because alcohol puts me down, hard. I drink, but am light/medium weight with it.
