"Is black folks checking other folks' blackness common in 2017?"
If you ever got asked "why you talk/act white?", are people still asking you that as an adult? Are kids still doing that in middle/high school?
Do black kids look at other black kids funny for liking rock, anime, skateboarding, doing well in school or not smoking weed?
Not like calling other people coons over some politics but just like getting called "white" for having "different" interests or the way you talk and carry yourself?
Do you know people who disassociated from blackness or things traditionally seen as black culture because they want to feel different and special? You or someone you know ever get checked for this and learned to be ok with their blackness? Do you think if a person is still hearing these kind of criticisms that they maybe need to reflect on why people are hurling those accusations?
Do you think it's common for black ppl to accuse another black person of acting white in 2017? Is it different for children vs adults?

....if "The Incredible Hulk" and martial arts flicks are things he considers as something Black folks weren't into. I remember cousins, friends, and I being into both of those. Not once have I ever heard anyone clown anybody over watching Kung Fu flicks or watching/reading anything Hulk related.

And American Eagle/Hollister/A&E...the popular rap stars of the day dress like ghetto punk rockers. And do songs with rock/pop artists on the regular. Don't get me started on how many blacks you'll see at an anime/comic convention. So, black people liking non-stereotypically "black" things is pretty much the norm now.
But there is a difference between a black person going against the grain and trying to distance themselves from blackness AND assimilate. No one's going to clown you for liking Metaillca but they may feel a way if you're rocking a Make America Great cap OR seem uneasy around folks who look like you.

I can't count the amount of times that I've heard "I hope my child is a little nerdy" All the so called white shit that was part of my youth, I hear regularly now from older black people talking about their kids. They show me pictures of cosplay or what books their kid is getting into.

then again, of course I hope/expect my future children to geek out with me. I'd be hurt if my kid couldn't enjoy Star Wars with me. All these comic books were brought with the idea that I will pass them down to my future spawn

As far as "talking white," when it comes to random observations or describing folks, yeah I may say that certain people "sound" White, or even that some of us talk White in certain settings (work, ordering on the phone, etc), but it's never ever ever a put down.

not necessarily in reference to activities and interests
and there isn't a hood in America that doesn't or didn't have those kids who were labeled as 'weirdos'
from my experience (in reference to activities and interests) they usually don't get bothered/bullied as long as they are comfy in their lane/skin and engage/participate socially...with the exception of maybe middle school or the extra extra niggas who bully any and everybody anyway...
now talking white may not gain any new friends...for the same reason using ebonics in a job interview prolly won't go over too well i don't think it's any different now with the exception of the 'weirdos' having an outlet/community/voice
but i know the url and that may not be everyone's experience

Which I think did help tank the boards eventually, though I'm not blaming you.
Thing is, I'm not disputing if talking white is a real thing. I'm asking if adult black people are still getting called out for talking white.
But I agree with you, if people are comfortable with themselves and have a decent amount of social grace and don't act like they're better than other black folks, I don't think adults are getting called out for not being "black enough" like that.

There's a big difference.
Proper-talking Black folk don't usually get the flack that white-talking Black folks do, because they still can relate, just the pronunciation is different.
White-talking black folk start to adopt different mannerisms and speech patterns. Passive-aggressiveness, snark, and language from outside the culture are present (BW at my job yelled out "OMG, SHUT UP!" in response to someone, for example).

Like, she fake smiles and avoids eye contact with me, but yuks it up with random non-black dudes. Honestly, I just avoid interacting with her because I don't tolerate that unnecessarily-awkward shit.
I've noticed the same thing for black guys that talk white... they really don't fuck with me.
The concept of the 'sellout negro' is probably one of the reasons that this is even a thing (black folks being checked on their blackness).
As an aside, I've met a grip of OKPs over the years, and as far as I recall not one black OKP 'talked white.' Proper, yes (including myself), but not 'white.'
