First off, a good rapper is a good rapper - this is not a post about who should or should not be rapping
This is more about the idea that with some rappers who are white do not have their whiteness enter the dialogue.
AKA Invited to the cookout and there are no questions about authenticity.
Like, I've been on a mini Paul Wall kick for a second and I realized that I dont recall any talks of him "appropriating the culture" came up - I'm not saying he's doing anything that should warrant such a talk, but I wonder why he was given a pass but then someone like Iggy or Macklemore was given a hard time
maybe its just down to whos good vs. whos wack. OR maybe its down to just keeping it real. Iggy was trying to be something shes not but someone like Paull or the Beastie Boys were true to who they were.

And here in lies a problem. You don't have to be cool, just be yourself, if you're naturally angsty/angry/a dick we'll read that an adjust to you, just be who you are. Same social rules apply as anywhere else as with black people. The last White rappers I really listened to were the Beastie Boys and 3rd Bass.
Otherwise, I ain't pay attention. There was a song or three here and there but they were nothing I was ever interested in giving a bunch of attention to.
Eminem is one White rapper I could never relate to even though he did his thing on Jay's "Renegades."
Bubba Sparxx had that one single one time a long time ago.
Yelawolf got busy on Big Boi's album a while back.
Paul Wall had a song back in the early Aughts.
El-P, as a member of RTJ, is tolerated by me but I listen mainly cuz I really dig Killer Mike. That Company Flow stuff was trash to me. Was one of the worst cassettes I'd ever purchased. There was absolutely nothing on there I could dance to. Believe it or not, people always dug being able to dance to rap music. I copped it cuz it was being pushed hard in The Source.
Ain't no knock against all White rappers cuz there may be a dope one out there somewhere. I've just not been interested. Thus, no pass given by me.

Like I said above, rap music that makes you boogie is always where I'm at.
And at that time, you could still find backpacker stuff mixed in with shiny suit stuff on Tony Touch mixtapes or any other DJ's mixtapes.
Now that I think about it, it wasn't until '97/'98 that rap really jumped the shark enough for there to even be a true backpacker crowd. Before then, everybody was listening to stuff that was found in backpacks but also on the radio.
Either way and back to the topic at hand, NO PASSES GIVEN!

And I think most of us knew a few who felt like they could be a "Paul Wall," an "Eminem," or at worst, a "B-Rad."
You can ALWAYS tell the ones who are trying too hard to fit in. Some were more Paul Wall, and grew up around all Blacks, and just felt naturally Black enough for us to not question them. They didn't try too hard to defend Blacks, and it always seemed natural. Some were more Eminem, in that they were comfortable in their Whiteness, and we were cool with them although they didn't have that "natural Black" feel. This is similar to a Beastie Boy type.
Then.......those got damn B-Rads. The ones that purposely bought the Jordans and baggy jeans to fit in. The ones who were almost loud whenever someone White did something wrong, just so he could prove he was down for the cause. Always using every slang word, even mixing up slang from different regions in a confusing way.
So with artists...it's the same. A Bobby Caldwell, Teena Marie, etc etc they don't force it, and they're comfortable being White while having soul.
