There is no single person more responsible for Trump than Hillary. If you cannot see this then you are just not paying any sort of attention. Not only was her campaign an even bigger example of being born on third base and not being able to cross the plate than Trump's whole halfassed life, but she handpicked his ass as an opponent. Her campaign was so poorly run, so arrogant, so stubborn and so far off the fucking mark that it will take us years to understand just how bad it was.

but when you talk about those voters, you're not talking to anyone on okp or any one who bittered on the dems because of bernie. they're shitty people, but it demonstrates the whole point that he would have broadened the party's voter turnout.

those sanders voters didn't cost hillary the election as defectors. they weren't ever going to vote for her, and they might not have voted for obama the last time around.
futhermore, if we want to play the game of despicable people in our coalitions, the clintons are far from reproach.
meanwhile 90% of us that voted for sanders voted for her enthusiastically in the general, were strong supporters of the obama presidency, and are doing everything we can to try to make 2018 and 2020 better.

They were never going to vote for Clinton (Or likely any other Dem candidate).
I was going to say the opposite wouldn't be true (Clinton voters would have enthusiastically came out for Sanders). But then I read this section:

It looks like it's common to have these types of party defections

His base is all he has going for him at the moment. And they'll get bored quick if all he gives them is mundane governing (which he has been and will continue to fail at).
So every once in a while, he'll have to do something like this to get controversial headlines and rally his base to their battle stations.
