For the past few weeks I keep thinking one thing and asking myself a question.
- Thank god there hasnt been a new Drake anything for sometime now. Its quiet as hell and I'm loving it. I don't hate Drake, I just hate the most recent iteration of Drake (the soft elevator muzak of Caribbean beats Drake)
- Where IS Drake? I bet we're about to get hit with a winter filled with a string of Drake music.

now he will drop a new song this weekend
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

He just didn't have the super singles he's had before, but Passionfruit got plenty of play. Blem is still getting play. But nah, he didn't have the super Summer he usually has.

Drake had a great summer EP in More Life, he just blew his load by releasing it too early.
He always seems to have non-album cycle singles ready to go at any time though, so arguably there's still time for him to smash the summer (or in true Drake swagger jack fashion by hoping on a Bodak Yellow remix)

i'm less impressed.
this is just a feature of the current era.
According to the Billboard Hot 100 charts dating to the week of August 26th, Drake’s name cannot be found. Not as a guest feature or as a solo artist. It marks the first time in 430 weeks that Drake’s not part of the chart, an astounding feat considering that the only artists in the hip-hop/R&B realm that has charted anywhere near that level are Lil Wayne, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.

The thing is Drake couldda kept this run up if he switched shit around.
He dropped Fake Friends last November with no real followup. And when he finally dropped More Life as opposed to having a push for singles with a focus on those popular Afrobeat/dancehall songs, he just kinda let it sit there and let radio/streams do the hard work.
Delay More life by two months with a Push and it would be Drakeworld going into 2018. For someone who had such great single release timing in the past it seems like an intentional 'lemmie step away' as opposed to falling off.

i am not at all invested in anything Drake does. what he eats don't make me shit.
but it's not at all unusual for a Pop act to rest for a few years between projects. Drake has 'flooded' the market for 9 yrs w/features - he can sit down for a while now. it'll be okay.

there was a point that literally ANY song he put out could get requested and required play in the club, even when they were trash to me. I HATED that "No new friends" track.
And the thing is, basically all Pop acts take breaks...it's really the wildest shit ever that he's been hot for this long. BUT, Pop acts tend to have extremely fickle crowds. I can see folks saying he "fell off" or that he's "done" solely because he decides to take a break, but I'm still sure they would be back on him if he dropped a banger upon his return.
