you black. you work in some corporate environment.
whats the go-to to see if someone is about it/down/kin folks?
Actually, this can be expanded to all sort of other places in life since it took a good 8 months for me to realize my doctor was down when I referenced some black show and we gave each other the look.

It's pretty easy for me to tell because the "down" (cool) black folks make eye contact and say good morning to each other, ALWAYS.
The suburban/funny-style black folks avoid eye contact, don't speak, are very sometime-y. They will pull out a cell phone for that 12-second elevator ride just to avoid interacting with you, with that "pained" look on their face.
It's just obvious-as-hell here. Professional Black folks tend to speak to each other, so the ones that don't stick out.

and they'd rather sit on the floor, than sit at the lunchtable with the brothers.
For me, I see how long it takes for them to let on that they are well adept at the code switch. Once we know each other got the code switch game on lock, I know I got a comrade ...... but still TRUST.NO.ONE.

**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

If they don't speak back, or give me that 'ain't from around here' look, I quit fuxxin' wit' em.
There was a cat here that was new, and I found myself speaking to him every morning everyday for at LEAST a week. No reply other than a grunt...if that.
