"Poll question: Who's the a-hole/Can You Hold a Parking Spot?"
After circling my neighborhood in BK for a minute a spot opens up as I am nearing my block and I go for it. A woman is standing in it and says she is holding it for someone. It's a concert going on at Barclays which means I won't find a spot in the area until after the concert HOURS from now. I am also an hour late from relieving the babysitter.
I'm like sorry I am taking that spot. She stands in the spot. I slowly back into the spot. She starts leaning on my car. I slowly back into the spot while she is leaning on it and take the spot.
Crowd gathers to watch the spectacle and she threatens to call the cops and I encourage her to do so.
It turns into a gentrification issue because she sees my VA license plate and she tells me she has been here for 30 years.
When I start to leave she starts making veiled threats about fucking up my car.

no, you can't really save a parking spot on a public street except by going to the gubmint and getting either the whole block reserved for permit parking or by having a certain space reserved for permit parking. everything else is just assholery. of course, some ppl will respect such assholery and won't park in a spot due to that stupid fucking 'dibs' shit they do in Chicago, Boston, and maybe NYC. ppl who live by that shit need to get the fuck over themselves. there is no reserving of parking spots on a public street. and as for standing in a spot - same thing. if other drivers don't try it and just keep driving past then it's all good but if a driver does what you did and actually parks in the spot what the fuck is the standee supposed to do? lol. they have no recourse. as long as the driver doesn't hurt them w/the vehicle (as you didn't) then 'oh well'. damaging the parked car? try that shit. see what happens.

I should have mentioned that a crowd had formed to watch our back and forth. It was a bit of a scene. When she threatened to damage my car I pulled out my camera and started taking her picture and she did the same to me.
When I was walking away one of the guys standing there was like "Yo that's a real dirtbag move, If I was her man I would fcuk you up".
It felt objectively wrong to use a car to push a woman out of a space I am trying to get into.
If I had hurt her I am sure folks might have a different opinion.
I regret the whole thing...except getting that good spot.

I remember one time i took a spot like that and someone threatened to do something to my car...i was legit shook so i stayed in the cut watching for like 10 minutes lolol. Most of the time, its not even about 'the spot' its about your pride. I seen people argue over spots in a half full parking lot when their were plenty other spots available smh.

Pops was looking for parking at the Mall parking garage (King's Plaza stand up!) and was about to make a left into a spot when a car coming down the ramp from another floor came in from the opposite direction.
That car immediately stopped and an Asian woman hopped out to 'hold' the spot since from that angle their car couldn't smoothly slide in and they would have to go around the floor one more time to scoop it up. Ill be nice and say there's a 50% chance they ain't see my pops waiting for the spot on the other side.
My pops went into rage mode and pulled in sharply (but stopped decently short) into the woman when their car moved out of the way since he thought they did it on purpose.
Their car stopped short and the driver hopped out, my pops hopped out and we were off to the races! No punches thrown, but alot of fucking curse words on 'Imma fuck you up!' (Keep in mind they were asian immigrants and my pops was Haitian immigrant so shit was hella broken english, LOL).
Teefiveten was crying and shit, my moms was like 'This nigga' in the car just annoyed, and the mall cops had to come and kick us both out of the lot, lol.

In my case it was a Hasidic guy (not that that should matter). I asked him if the person he was holding it for was nearby and he said he's 15 minutes away, if I recall correctly. I did the standoff with him by essentially block the spot. I didn't want to test trying to physically get into the spot, though. I think I wound up backing down and getting another spot.
To me, the rule should be, spots should only be held if the person is less than 5 minutes away or circling the block. Anything more than that is a moral violation.

I live in Philly - people try putting cones and chairs into spots (specially during winter storms) - or as in this case - body holding a spot

it's not reserved parking just cause your peoples showed up first. especially in a packed parking lot or big city where public parking is hard to find, they gotta show up earlier to get their spot.
