And outside of artists with exclusive deals with certain providers the Play library seems to me to be on par with Spotify, Apple, etc. regardless of genre, rarity, year released, etc.

.....but would like to use a different app while doing so, the YouTube Red option via Google Music is a Godsend since it lets you leave YouTube but still allows you to listen to it despite doing so.

soundtrack a bodega, coffee shop, casual restaurant or cocktail spot.

but that's my employer's account, I'm not on any of that (I really, really, really liked the impression of Apple Music's DJ-ran radio stations when it was free, though).

use the free trial and see if you like it.

I have Spotify, Tidal, and Pandora,

Spotify-love that I can share playlist with other people

Tidal- gives me a military (veteran) discount (5.99) and I like that they pay artist more, the concerts are dope too (wish they had an option to just listen to the concerts sometimes).

Pandora-probably the best Algorhythm of "guessing" what I like to hear. And some really good podcasts but i think those are free anyways so...

I used to have Apple Music for Beats 1 radio shows but I dont miss it..I catch the Dre show, Q tip etc on a bootleg download every not and then...

You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Spotify is good all around and its playlist algorithms are great if you take a little time to learn it

i prefer Spotify because i had it before either existed and i'm already too deep

Tidal pays artists more

I get the impression he's just waiting to cash in and cash out....
If I were to subscribe (technically I currently do since I forgot to cancel my trial on the 30th) I don't think i'd really feel like I was supporting another Black man as much as i'm supporting another corporate entity that cares only about my $$.

With that said...it's a good app and service...but hasn't won me over enough to roll with it over Google Play.

They develop playlists for you based on what you listen to. It's a great way to find new music & new artists when you don't have time to go digging like you used to.

The service/product can always be improved upon but there's no denying who owns the ship. And I've got no problem supporting the movement.

But don't bootleg it - Jay-Z will stab you up with the quickness.

But the truth is: These services are almost all alike. 95% same catalog.

Apple and Pandora Premium provide some good original programming. Google Play gives you YouTube Red.

Tidal has "high definition music" which might sound better if you have golden ears. It's like Pono (RIP) with more rap. (Xstream's coming y'all.) There are test on the net you can take to see if YOU can hear the difference.

AND Tidal gives you a copy of a Jay-Z record 1 week before everyone else gets it - unless he's already made a deal with a phone manufacturer to have them send it out first.

And although there's a lot of obfuscation it appears that Google Play pays the artist more than Tidal (and Tidal pays more than almost all the others.)

Amazon Music has gotten exponentially better over the past year
fairly large catalog plus old school stuff
and the clean hiphop selection is key for my 10 year old

i never warmed up to Spotify, ended up deleting it

people cited the curated playlists and abundance of mixtapes, but im not big on mixtapes and i dont trust anyones playlists. Amazon Music has both if you're into that sort of thing

i hate Apple so ill never even try Apple Music

i do want to try Tidal though

the navigation of the app is fine to me, i know its gone through a few upgrades

my only issue is its handling of offline music. there was no option to delete songs in bulk, forcing you to either delete songs one by one or delete the app then reinstall to get rid of it.

The streaming service battles were just getting started good and when Zune/Xbox Music was shutting down (before being branded as Groove or something).....
That soured me though....I even have a Spotify account from BEFORE they had the signup only through Facebook model...but for some reason it wasn't compatible during that stretch. I can log in to it now on the website I think, but not the phone app.

They are really good at suggesting stuff to listen to. I've been toying with the idea of switching to Amazon Music since we have Prime and I'm always looking to minimize recurrent expenses, but Spotify knows me so well at this point I'm scurred to leave lol

platform. unless i can somehow export them and assuming the other platform has most of the stuff i listen to. The google play sounds cool for ad free youtube but i mostly already have that with adblockers.

spotify family plan is a pretty good deal, i think it's 5 people for $15. i've been thinking of just giving it to my parents for the extra $5 on top of the $10 i'm already paying for my own plan.

i have too much time invested in my iTunes music library. i remember when i was switching between players trying to avoid iTunes and i finally made the commitment i said this was it and i was signing my music listening life over to Apple for the forseeable future. i'm too far gone now. so if i did this streaming shit (i won't) i'd go w/Apple's Bullshit. but fuck that and fuck them.

only drawback is sometimes she is teaching a class and she forgets to go offline.

I wonder what the class looks like when a classical song changes to Nas or Little Brother.

i'm not here for any of that streaming shit largely b/c i don't have unlimited data and i'm always wondering what i'm supposed to do when i'm out of data service area (like when *insert train here* is underground - plenty of them don't have data coverage in all of the tunnels yet).

plus i just don't want to have access to like, 'everything' all of the time. when i had my whole music library downloaded on my iPod it was just too much. lots of skipping. so i had to make playlists. i guess that's what i'd do on streaming services too, huh?

yeah. no. i don't want or need the digital overlords have that info about me. they already have more info than i want them to have. i'm not giving them this too.

hell, i'm still praying it'll all end soon. if only to watch kids freak the fuck out about not having that shit. b/c i remember the world b4 all of this geekery took over. we lived just fine. we lived better, i think. we can do it again.

fuck you.

If I'm unfamiliar with a song/artist I pull it up on Tidal and save it to my playlist.

then there's.. artists who create exclusive playlist. I like those. The cleanliness of it. It's funny, because I can see the shift...its slow but you can see. There's always updates. I'm sure there's a lot more I can do with it but for right now... I can't deny a big part of why I subscribe over others is because of Jay. I want him to win. Nothing to do with being blinded, a stan. while, I'm an "all lives" matter person...putting the folks first, is just in me especially when we're making those kind of moves because most of us will never be able to..

b/c Jay seems pretty focused on living the good life (which is fine for what it is) but not so focused on using his $ to make sure WE live better. he's definitely doing whatever so his kids have whatever (okay) but what does that have to do w/US?

i'm not convinced that helping Jay win helps us win except i guess as him being some example. but i don't see his $ being put back in to us - at least not much of it. but i'm not out there counting that man's money either. it's his. he can do what he wants w/it. but i won't be guilt tripped into giving him more so he and Yonce can have 5 extra toilets to shit in. i'm not about that.

I only use Spotify because there's a free version. I don't have a problem with ads especially when they're the only trade-off for having the service for free.

If Apple Music or Google Play decided to do the same thing I think almost everyone would jump ship from Spotify.

SN: I know Jay-Z owns Tidal but I still think he's leaving money on the table by not allowing his catalog to be on the other services. I don't see why he can't just give his service the exclusive premiere and then expand to the other services after a week or two (like Drake's deal with Apple).

In response to Reply # 0

So if they're missing an album out of a discography that you actually own, you can add that album on there. For example, the other day I was pulling up Funkadelic's page on Google Music and I found that they only had the Westbound albums. I was in the mood to listen to "Hardcore Jollies" and that was nowhere to be found as far as what Google Music offered. However, since I had uploaded my own music collection on there some years ago (even before I had the full pay service), I was able to listen to Hardcore Jollies as a result.

It's on their cloud, so you don't have to keep hooking up any iPod or whatever to access your music. It also gave the option to edit album and song info (something I had to do because one of the songs was listed as being on the Hardcore "Jones" album instead of "Jollies"). If you got more than one person in your life (like a wife and/or kids), you can get the family plan for close to $15.00 and have up to 6 people on the account. They, along with you, can get access to the YouTube Red and YouTube Music apps along with Google Music for no additional cost.

on at all. Whether it's a live concert, or sing it as if it's a podcast, etc.

Once the commercials are gone and you have the ability to use while not in the app, it completely changes the YouTube experience. Google Play is just an extra benefit. I actually have Apple Music and Tidal in addition to Google Play at the moment. I'm planning on cancelling one of them, but YouTube Red plus Google Play for free is a no brainer.

101. "Spotify"
In response to Reply # 0

Why? Cause I've used it since it was new here i sweden and as someone with a fairly eclectic taste in music that range from free jazz to death metal and everything between, I'm *still* more postively surprised by what's there than negatively surprised by what's not.

Do other services have the same amount of music available? Maybe, I don't know and, frankly, don't care since Spotify works for me and has worked in the past. If there's something I need to hear they don't have, I either rip it off my own collection (CD/digital) or download it off some blog or whatever (=shit I have on vinyl or tapes only; I gave up ripping that from my own collection since it's too tedious and since I could almost always find it on the net somewhere; my tastes are not TOO rare/exclusive with some exceptions)...

With that said, Google music/play/whatever sounds somewhat appealing to me but I'm too old/stuck in my ways to care at this point. Frankly, I was never too interested in the format of listening to music; the whole "social listening" shit and Pandora and lastFM and yada-yada never appealed to me at all...

im signed up. i actually messed up and exited the sign up process to see if i could pay using google credit. when i went back to sign up it only showed me 30 days. signed up anyways and emailed support. they added the extra 60 days.

guess im going to give this a shot. got the hifi option.

what do i need to know?

especially coming from google play music. i dont know if i will keep using google play during this trial. i think i want to operate as if i will go back to google play when the trial is done. unless tidal wins me over.

or whatever Google is calling their music service now. Real Simple:

1. The largest library out there including the mixtapes, covers and other user uploaded content.

2. See number 1 again.

So not only do you have access to your own music library pre-streaming, but everyone elses as well.

But all your playlists are in Spotify, Apple Music, etc? There are websites for conversion.

I will say the biggest downside for YT Music is that official releases can someone get lost in all the covers etc.

But yeah, it's dope....and yet I still haven't cancelled my spotify yet....

by the time they make it official and dead GPM, then i'm bouncing.
Has it been updated since they first rolled it out? The interface was terrible to me and I don't like the whole idea of videos and music being all mixed together. Seems like that kills both batter AND data usage. If i'm working out or just trying to LISTEN to music I don't like the idea of using additional data or battery power for a video version of a song..
I dunno.... Google be doing too much and not enough sometimes. I am/was a HUGE fan of GPM for years...but now that Google's trend is to kill all their good products and ideas juuuuust when folks start catching on to them makes me super uneasy about committing to any of their services any more.

no music information on my always on display. i have to turn on the screen and click on the icon to see what song is playing. why?

when i get back in the car i have to find my playlist again and start it all over again. why?

i still need to actually check out the master quality audio with some decent headphones but if the app is not functional i dont know how i can ride with it.

Their music selection is good.

And having no ads on YouTube completes nearly anything I could possibly want to listen to.
