"Best way to get my own email address? "

for business...
I just want folks to be able to email me at thisguy@thisguy.com for instance.

I've zero'd in on G Suite from google which is $10/month and you get 1TB of Google Drive storage along with your own email address.

Are there any other options I should be looking at?

Is there a central website where you can upload your files to?
i'm on godaddy.com right now looking at their stuff....but I can't really tell what i'm getting for $10/year beyond the domain...but even with G Suite, I have to buy the domain before I can register the email address with G Suite as the backbone. So sounds like the route you're recommending is the better way to go from a cost standpoint.

with that said im not that well versed so not sure exactly how various hosts operate

i saw godaddy gives you online storage for as little as 1.99 a month

as dude above said usually the online storage is done via an FTP, but they may have some kind of GUI you log into to access it or you may be responsible for running your own FTP client

What won me over was the fact that getting the domain through Google included domain privacy in the $12/year cost. A lot of the other big names were charging extra for domain privacy.

Also G Suite seems to be the most straightforward setting up email accounts and stuff.

that's provided by the registrar. It just keeps my contact information from showing up on WHOIS.

Here's more info:

Nah, I don't sell anything. Just tired of my business email being @gmail.com....so now it's more formal @fluidj.com.... and whenever I get around to having an actual website i'll have the domain I need.
