" Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III - watch God work...or Hwhite work?"

Attorney General, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, lied and spoke twice with Russian ambassador during Donald's presidential campaign. So, in the aftermath, shall we watch God work, and see him resign, and or prosecuted? Or, shall we watch his child-of-the-confederacy whiteness work, and see those GOP controlled committees allow him to carry on?
What are your predictions?

How can they let this one ride? The AG lied during confirmation hearings? C'mon son. If nothing else, he gotta take the hit or the whole thing is even more of a sham than we already thought it was.

there's wiggle room - b/c he may have talked to the ambassador in his role as a Senator and not as an agent of the Trump campaign. that may be enough for him to wiggle out of this. maybe.

still...there's enough here to merit an independent investigation since Sessions is the AG and it would be improper for him or his agency to head up any investigation into this Russia shit since he MIGHT be implicated.

so while this situation may not result in Sessions losing his job it SHOULD be enough to fuel the push for an independent investigation where previously there was much hemming and hawing about that.

fuck you.

The perjury might be the deathblow; Rubio's calling for his head, Cruz is shucking and jiving. Lets see how it plays it, I give him a 40% chance of keeping his job.

in the US Constitution. we have to make it work.

it starts w/an independent investigation of the Trump admin's ties to Russia (including Russian ambassadors in the USA and elsewhere) during the campaign. and it goes where ever it may go.

we gotta make it work by applying pressure on our elected representatives in Congress. CALL 'EM UP. and tell 'em what you waaaaant.

Arguably in the context he was talking about in his role as a surrogate and not as a Senator. You would need cofirmation they discussed Trump in some deal making capacity to make this stick.

don't start celebrating yet.

This is similar to Flynn; as far as Trump was concerned he did nothing wrong and said so after the fact when he said the media drove him out.

A week before they had to cut him loose because he was a distraction with those Russian ties.

Sessions is a well liked senator so they (house/senate repubs) won't want to take him down. But if the press keeps the heat up, the WH might have to cut him loose just to avoid the scandal dominating the news cycle for weeks if not months.

Bannon and Priebus ain't work their behind the scenes to destroy the world to have some senator fuck up their plans!

the Russians to use their ambassador this way. If you're trying to flip a major elected official you use one of your agents who is in deep cover, not the damned ambassador. I'm assuming the ambassador has an About page on the Russian embassy website. That seems super amateurish.

Evan Perez just said it on CNN, so I suppose I can here: Kislyak wasn't just ambassador, he was Russia's "top spy recruiter" in D.C.: SVR.

But even that seems bone-headed. Not to refer back to a tv show again, but on the show they let the ambassador be free from all that kind of stuff because ambassadors are always monitored. It's the Russian spies posing as American citizens who engage in that the most. But again, that's just a tv show. I just assume their heirs of the KGB would have a tighter operation that what I'm hearing about this.

No random (Russian posing as American) stranger is going to go up to a senator out of nowhere at some cocktail party and start a convo

the ambassador or other high profile big shot opens him up, establishes "cordial" relationship, then the underlings take it from there

By the way, anyone with a security clearance is required to report foreign contacts immediately if not soon (c) also, don't perjure yourself

Russia has been adversarial with us and spying on us since (at least) 1945. Putin was in the KGB doing this kind of stuff in East Germany in the 80's.

I'm not saying they can't be stupid about this, but stupid is stupid.

It's conveying information covertly.

I doubt anyone who does spying refer to themselves as "spies".

It's all a matter of perspective. Ever read those articles about US campers/journalist held as spies after wandering off track in places like Iran, North Korea, Pakistan? I would wager 100% that they were actually doing spy shit when they got caught.

Today:
I've been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years. No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com.

2015:
Today calls with British, Russian, and German Ambassadors re: Iran deal. #doingmyhomework

2013:
Off to meeting w/Russian Ambassador. Upset about the arbitrary/cruel decision to end all US adoptions, even those in process.

And then the walk back:
4 years ago went to meeting of many Senators about international adoptions. Russian Amb also attended.

There should be minutes taken, it should be in his schedule, all of that stuff. These assholes can pull up anything about us they want to, I want to see that motherfucker's Google Calendar whenever I want to, we're paying him.

The likelihood of an ambassador meeting in YOUR office with that kind of timing in regards to the election certainly has a nonzero chance of being legit, but highly unlikely.

Maddow broke it down really well (whether or not someone likes her is irrelevant because the info is legit) that a Russian Billionaire has been dumping money to Trump to shelter it from some multi-billion dollar divorce settlement, and Trump owes Deutsche Bank a LOT of money, and now the connections with the Cyprus bank and Wilbur Ross. Throw in Manafort and Carter and the shit is just too overwhelming to be coincidental.

Archibald Cox
He was up his ass to the point that Nixon tried to force his AG to fire him (AG refused and resigned).
Then he tried to force the Deputy AG to fire him (Deputy AG refused and resigned). Ultimately Nixon just abolished the special prosecutor's office, which turned the public against him and led to his impeachment

It just means he has to leave all decisions on these cases up to his surrogates, which isn't terribly comforting.

Hopefully a special prosecutor is the next step in the train wreck, though.

though Pence had no knowledge of all this wrongdoing, everyone burns but him. He gets to be President, something he was far too extreme (and boring) to ever win on his own. If Trump is out of the way, he can implement hardline conservative policy with the full support of Repubs in Congress. BUT, he probably won't destroy the world before the 2018 mid-terms, when they lose it all. Their fanatical base isn't that big, they just turn out. Turnout isn't going to be a problem for Dems from now on, at least I would hope not.

Set up a 'special prosecuter'. I'm not so sure about the legal distinctions so I'm just parroting what I've read elsewhere and correct me if i'm wrong.....but apparently a special prosecuter can only indict crimes and it's possible that there are extremely relevant elements of Trump/Russian ties that aren't technically illegal. An independent inquiry can have a much broader investigation that won't be limited to crimes.

This is another promising piece of what's, admittedly, still a story without a smoking gun. But pieces are still adding up.
