"whats it going to take to get 45* supporters to turn?"
Anytime an embarrassing gaffe, statement or stance comes from 45*'s sadministration I can't help but damn near obsessively read through comments to see if people are finally getting it.
-Bad news comes down the pipe line, they scream "fake news" (which, by the way is up there with "cuck" on the short list of cringe newly created inducing words.
-Kellyanne Conway and her inability to make a true statement - crickets.
-Kellyanne Conway's ban from news shows - they scream (ironically) "This is sexism!"
The responses of 45*'s supporters have become numb and reduced to auto responses. You can damn near play bingo with the limited set of responses they use which stem from 45*'s response to things.
They want to blame the mainstream media for lying but when faced with facts from the horse's mouth direct and unfiltered no response is to be found.
When blocked in with facts they dodge... "Well, the KKK actually started out as..." "Actually they were democrats...TAKE THAT LIBTARDS"
I'm going to guess never, but I'm optimistically searching for a line in the sand.
For a large enough population of white people there's absolutely nothing that a white man backed up by other white people can do wrong that won't be "well THEY would've done worse"

Any evidence indicating that you possibly made a bad decision feels like an attack on your judgement and intelligence. So you try to protect yourself by rationalizing and justifying.
And it's not a phenomenon unique to Trump people. For example, the roll out to Obamacare was a disaster. But Obama supporters (me included) were in their battle trenches swatting away all criticism

Obamacare BLM Black folk
They will never admit it.
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

A life threatening incident would be something like surviving an air plane crash, or a car crash, or an earthquake. That can reset the brain sometimes.
Or if Trump does something directly TO THEM or someone they love. Like if Trump outlawed being a chickenshit redneck - then some of those people would turn.
But if you follow Trump now you're either: 1)A fucking rube 2)Cynical - and using his incompetence to your advantage.
