"Poll question: when/how will the 45th presidency end?"
Wed Feb-15-17 02:45 PM by SoWhat

the intelligence community is clearly gunning for 45* (http://www.rawstory.com/2017/02/he-will-die-in-jail-intelligence-community-ready-to-go-nuclear-on-trump-senior-source-says/). apparently the IC believes even the Situation Room is compromised. they're withholding intelligence from the WH due to too close ties w/Russia (http://observer.com/2017/02/donald-trump-administration-mike-flynn-russian-embassy/). and w/45*'s ill-advised goading and trolling of the IC b4 he took office and since then (oh...and 'the media' too, of course)...they don't have much reason to be 'loyal' to him.

remember that crazy dossier w/the golden shower info? it's slowly being confirmed.

i don't see him making it to 2021.

but i don't know if he'll be out b4 the end of this year.

i suspect he's counting on starting war w/China and/or Iran (w/Russia as an ally?) to keep him in office if he's able to run for re-election in 2020. but the way his ppl have played fast and loose w/facts (remember - that's why we the ppl and the media made such a big deal about the inauguration lies - if the WH will lie about obvious and verifiable shit they'll lie about ANYTHING) just makes them extremely vulnerable to prosecution (via impeachment in Congress). so far i think the WH is counting on 45*'s supporters not demanding action against him. but w/the IC gunning for him i dunno if that'll save him. b/c all they have to do is leak THE BOMB on him and it's OVER (proof of 45* involvement in illegal communication w/Russia; proof of Russia having kompromat on 45* (compromising material - i love that there's a Russian word for that); proof that 45* was aware of and/or assisted and/or requested and/or directed the DNC hacking). if THE BOMB drops the GOP will have 'no choice' but to fire up the ol' Impeachment 3000 machine.

maybe 45* can turn this around if he approaches the IC w/his tail between his legs and begs forgiveness. perhaps the Flynn info was released as a kind of 'warning' to the WH to get some fuckin ackrite. but so far 45* has displayed a shocking lack of ackrite. so i don't see why he'd start now.

like i said - i doubt the administration survives to 2021. but how does it end?

(interesting that I didn't see an option for that)

Most of the people who feel that his administration's performance thus far is indicative of his lack of fitness to be president are people who were already convinced he was unfit to be president. I have my doubts that many minds have been or will be changed by this kind of stuff. Impeachment won't happen, or won't succeed, without popular sentiment turning against him far more than it has already or is likely to over his beef with the IC, his tweeting, ethical questions, kompromat, alternative facts, etc.

My thought is that the only thing that will sway his support base away from him is if the promised return of jobs doesn't happen.

I expect that his support base will give him the benefit of the doubt for that for two years or so,but as the momentum for 2020 election cycle builds, the lack of economic development in the depressed areas that turned out to vote for him will become a bigger issue.

I expect he will have a challenger for the Republican primary in 2020.

It'll be interesting for sure though, because it is really difficult to unseat a sitting president no matter how unpresidential his behavior, or how unpopular his policies are. W won in 2004 despite the Iraq war; Obama won in 2012 despite how many people really hated the idea of the ACA.

I don't believe there will be a shift in popular support due to any of these issues.

I don't believe that it will be possible for him to be impeached or forced out of office without a massive shift in popular support.

I believe such shift in popular support will only gain momentum as it becomes clear that he can't deliver on his economic promises to the working class.

I fear that if Trump is impeached, then Pence would have a good chance to get elected in 2020.
I am more worried about Pence as POTUS because he is conservative and capable to work with Congress to get their agenda approved. Plus if RBG dies, then they will have a Conservative lock on SCOTUS for awhile.

And if he is there will be a 99% chance he will not be removed.

Impeachment is a political process - and Republicans are SCUMBAGS who will NOT impeach one of their own.

He might resign - but he'll never never never ever ever be impeached. And then he'll neveverevereverneverevereverevereverneverneverneverevereverever be removed by a republican house and Senate.

that would likely change the whole game.

i thought there's no way he faces impeachment - before the Flynn resignation. and today 45* doubled down on his IC attacks.

he keeps poking the bear that is the US intelligence community. they don't play - as they tried to 'warn' the WH by leaking that Flynn info. that's after the pissy dossier was leaked.

if 45* would just fuckin ACK RITE maybe the IC would back off. but naw.

so now i don't see it for this administration surviving. when the IC says they think the WH is compromised and starts withholding sensitive intelligence...that just cannot stand.

fuck you.

>that would likely change the whole game.

I believe they can have taped calls with Trump offering to give Russia control over the US while he pees on hookers and the Republicans in congress will not impeach him.

And if they did the senate will never convict him - ever - if with videos of Trump admitting that he's going to make sure all of his friends get rich and all of the poor in the U.S. are put in prison.

There's only ONE offense that would get him impeached and removed - and that is if Trump became a Democrat and enacted sensible policies.

Republicans are not honorable, they will not do the right thing, and most of them would do exactly what Trump has done given the chance.

All they have to do is prove me wrong - which they will not.

Which is why I said nothing happens before 2018. But if it looks like Trump is unpopular enough that he really does start hurting the re-election chances of Senators and congressmen and threatens their stranglehold on the legislature, they'll drop him like third period French. Especially if it stops with him and Pence can remain unscathed.

I mean, in my head all this shit seems reasonable.

But stepping outside myself and thinking about how conservatives felt post Obama election, it feels similar. They were saying how impeachment was coming down line for this reason or that reason. That he had ties to this government or that nefarious organization.

This stuff against Trump seems logical to me. But I wonder if it seems logical just because I want it to be?

What's the equivalent of Flynn's firing in the Obama scenario?

What's the equivalent of Lindsey Graham's comments today about an independent inquiry into Russian/Trump campaign relations?

I haven't had a more optimistic outlook in 18 months. The nightmare is starting to come to an end.

they might* have felt this way in the weeks/months after Benghazi. especially after Susan Rice was sent out to the Sunday morning news shows and got thrown under a bus shortly after.

and maybe in the lead-up to each of HRC's hearings before Congress.

but the feeling surely faded as NOTHING CRIMINAL was found to be afoot.

nothing.

anyway, i'll let Dan Rather take it from here:

http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/2/15/14623118/dan-rather-trump-watergate

Watergate is the biggest political scandal of my lifetime, until maybe now. It was the closest we came to a debilitating Constitutional crisis, until maybe now. On a 10 scale of armageddon for our form of government, I would put Watergate at a 9. This Russia scandal is currently somewhere around a 5 or 6, in my opinion, but it is cascading in intensity seemingly by the hour. And we may look back and see, in the end, that it is at least as big as Watergate. It may become the measure by which all future scandals are judged. It has all the necessary ingredients, and that is chilling.

When we look back at Watergate, we remember the end of the Nixon Presidency. It came with an avalanche, but for most of the time my fellow reporters and I were chasing down the story as it rumbled along with a low-grade intensity. We never were quite sure how much we would find out about what really happened. In the end, the truth emerged into the light, and President Nixon descended into infamy.

This Russia story started out with an avalanche and where we go from here no one really knows. Each piece of news demands new questions. We are still less than a month into the Trump Presidency, and many are asking that question made famous by Tennessee Senator Howard Baker those many years ago: "What did the President know, and when did he know it?" New reporting suggests that Mr. Trump knew for weeks. We can all remember the General Michael Flynn's speech from the Republican National Convention - "Lock her up!" in regards to Hillary Clinton. If Hillary Clinton had done one tenth of what Mr. Flynn had done, she likely would be in jail. And it isn't just Mr. Flynn, how far does this go?

The White House has no credibility on this issue. Their spigot of lies - can't we finally all agree to call them lies - long ago lost them any semblance of credibility. I would also extend that to the Republican Congress, who has excused away the Trump Administration's assertions for far too long.

We need an independent investigation. Damn the lies, full throttle forward on the truth. If a scriptwriter had approached Hollywood with what we are witnessing, he or she would probably have been told it was way too far-fetched for even a summer blockbuster. But this is not fiction. It is real and it is serious. Deadly serious. We deserve answers and those who are complicit in this scandal need to feel the full force of justice.

fuck you.

it's been less than a month and we're already seeing the sh/t storm get underway.

I don't see him lasting until 2021 at this point. and like you, I'm also waiting to see what other bombs the intelligence community might drop on him next. if they have more compromising info, and based on how he blasted them, you know they are just getting their ducks all lined up to drop an epic dose of ether.

wish I could be a fly on the wall in the discussions taking place in the WH and Intel agencies right about now.

the other wild part is seeing just how amateur the whole operation is. from the flawed and unqualified staff picks to the shoddy execution of the EO's. for anyone who didn't have an inkling before, it's clear that ole DT has really just been getting by on the illusion of success and sharp business acumen all these years. if it all ends badly, the damage to his legacy and those who stood with him, is gonna be like anything we've probably ever seen before in our lifetimes. and worst of all, it'll all be the result of self-inflicted pain.

He doesn't like Trump at all but is worried about the C.I.A being the determining factor in who is the President. The fact that all of this stuff is being leaked rather than a straight up investigation resulting in filing charges is a show of force with no one to hold accountable for the leaks. People are all for it because they don't like Trump but what if it was your candidate. Might not be so funny.

If you have information that can do him in then file charges and get him out of there. If not...

If I were a Trump supporting this would make me support him even more when the powers that be seem to be gunning for him.

It's important to note that the CIA is doing this for two reasons:

1) Trump actively started a war with them...Like dude literally compared them to the Nazis....Trolled them....Dismissed the crazy ass dossier (which is beginning to come into fruition, btw)...So the CIA is showing Cheeto Jesus that he has to stay in his lane...

2) They fear that Trump is a serious danger to the office and country.....Just recently a military general in charge of the Special Opts said that we are headed for a crises and that the government is in turmoil. The military is usually aligned with the Republican Party. That's how crazy this shit is getting...

Either way, we all fucked. Because Mike Pence is waiting in the wings...

i have no faith at all that his base will see fault in anything he does. people believe what they wanna believe so they spin the narrative to fit what they already think vs seeing it for what it really is...

To win over the die-hards, it would have to be clear and convincing. Maybe two or three witnesses testifying about firsthand accounts of Trump making secret arrangements with Putin ahead of the election, or something like that. I'm assuming that virtually none of this is in writing anywhere, so finding documents will be hard (just a guess, unless the Russians just started being stupid all of a sudden).

I think without the die-hards being convinced, their Congresspeople and senators won't be so inclined to impeach.

I don't think it will matter though. His base didn't get him elected. The non-base vote that tipped the scales won't feel the same need to rationalize and they're the important ones....the people who supposedly 'held their nose and voted'. They'll be fine with changing their perception of him to an enemy of the state....a treasonous traitor....unamerican.

My best guess is his base will just take up a different tea party type candidate.

Ready to go to the mattresses. They will ride the Trump train to the end. Look at the politics board of any sports forum.

They are pissed that the GOP is even considering looking in to anything.
They aren't mad at the behavior of the admin. They are mad that intelligence agencies are leaking (but they have the cognitive dissonance to think that the Clinton emails were cool).

They wait to hear the official admin spin before making comments.
There was a post when Flynn first resigned. It was slow going at first. Barely any comments. But then as soon as the "loss of trust" narrative came out, they flooded in praising Trump for his leadership. Saying because he's a businessman, he knows when to let people go.
